This report by The Real Truther follows Tony Ortega's August 4, 2019 story about another anti-vaccine group led by Scientologists that opposes California Senate Bill 276, "Scientologist-led anti-vaxx ‘Conscience Coalition’ is off to a humble start," as well as Tony Ortega's earlier May 16, 2019 story, "Beyond the quarantine: Signs that Scientology is getting involved in anti-vaxx panic."

“The bill’s authors just put a huge target on doctors’ backs, which is worse than a ‘chilling effect’, but a ‘killing effect’ of legitimate medical exemptions in this state,” attorney Leigh Dundas said.

EDITED TO ADD:

In Tony Ortega's May 16, 2019 story, "Beyond the quarantine: Signs that Scientology is getting involved in anti-vaxx panic," former top Scientology executive Amy Scobee addressed the involvement of Scientologist Lucy Cole in the anti-vaccination movement:

https://tonyortega.org/2019/05/16/b...ology-is-getting-involved-in-anti-vaxx-panic/

In the meantime, we turned to former top Scientology executive Amy Scobee for her thoughts on these new developments.

We told her that we’ve been pointing out to other reporters that although the church doesn’t express an anti-vaxx position, Hubbard’s anti-doctor diatribes have produced Scientologists who are skeptical of western medicine, including vaccines.

She agreed with that, and pointed out that in her 20 years at Int Base, she never saw Sea Org members getting vaccines or being given the time off to get them.

As for what’s been going on lately with Scientology seemingly getting involved in anti-vaxx activities, she admits to being as bewildered as we are.

But she says that Lucy Cole’s activities wouldn’t be happening if it hadn’t been approved by Scientology, and specifically with oversight by the Office of Special Affairs, Scientology’s secret police.

* * * * * END EXCERPT * * * * *

This observation may be equally applicable to the Scientologists involved with Advocates for Physicians' Rights.

Fox 40: Anti-Vaccination Group Calls for DOJ Investigation into SB 276

CRAMENTO -- A day after the state Senate gave final approval on Senate Bill 276, which tightens the rules for school medical exemptions for children, some groups are calling for a federal investigation into how it was created.

Drawing dozens to the North Steps of the State Capitol Thursday, the anti-vaccination group Advocates for Physicians’ Rights called on the Department of Justice to investigate the passage of SB 276.

“Full-scale investigation of the county health officers, medical doctors, nurses and other licensed professionals who appear to have engaged in a multi-year campaign engineered to end-run and/or violate a multitude of federal and state laws,” said attorney Leigh Dundas with Advocates for Physicians’ Rights.

Governor Gavin Newsom is going to sign SB 276, the bill opposed by Advocates for Physicians' Rights, but the sponsor agreed to significant limitations.

Los Angeles Times: California vaccine bill exemption rules agreed to by Newsom and lawmakers

* * * * * BEGIN EXCERPT * * * * *

The author of a bill to clamp down on school vaccine exemptions agreed to scale back parts of it under a deal reached Friday with Gov. Gavin Newsom following a chaotic week of negotiations . But their pact was quickly met with fierce opposition from protesters who had hoped the governor’s apprehension signaled trouble for Senate Bill 276.

While aspects of the amendments sought by Newsom would significantly weaken the bill, other changes would bring new scrutiny to exemptions written by doctors who have faced disciplinary action, including prominent Orange County pediatrician Bob Sears, whose practice caters to parents who want to delay or skip immunizations. The new provision would have the potential to invalidate hundreds of vaccine exemptions from such practitioners.

The agreement between state Sen. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) and Newsom calls for the governor to sign SB 276, which has passed the Legislature, and for revisions to be placed in separate legislation, SB 714, which requires approval by the Assembly and Senate by Sept. 13. Newsom’s office said the governor will sign SB 276 once the Legislature passes SB 714 with his changes. Legislative leaders said Friday that they support the new changes under the deal.

Advocates for Physicians' Rights is not happy with the compromise, saying the amendments embodied in SB 714 are not sufficient.

A lot of my still in Facebook friends are active on this issue. Don't know if the church is, but it looks like the normal social activism that comes from the special affairs folk.

Is Scientology stealth supporting anti-vaccine group Advocates for Physicians' Rights?
Not really "stealth" at all at this point.

Actually, this is about 1 year old news as to forming activities and about 1/2 year old news as to visible public participation. There was obvious participation in public demonstrations in February.

It seems entirely driven by a sense of need for allies rather than any factual belief set, such as about medical facts, so engaging in dialogue about the sensibility of the positions is a losing game. They need friends/allies and that is all there is to it.
