What's new

Is there anything from Scientology you have found useful?

well golly, i am glad you don't hold the bombastic boasting of the research story against me...

no, i give myself a pat on the back often. i think others should at least respect me for having been a hardworking guy most of my life. i have achieved much in my life and thing of which i am most proud is this: one night a few years ago i had a old cab for my shift and it had a spring sticking up through the back seat and it gave one of my customers a scratch on his rump. in thirtyeight years of big city hacking that is the only physical injury sustained by the tens of thousands passengers i have served

sweetheart, i'm an artist and should be locked in a cage with a sign reading "please don't feed the ego"

and ALL that is good about me derives from the good instruction and good example of others. but yes, i do choose to accept the instruction and follow the example

same as you

i wasn't being "defensive"...

no one on this board has ever in the least tried to inhibit what i have or do...

of course, the written word doesn't carry tone of voice and the reader will "hear" the poster how they hear

i hope some people can "hear" me closer to how i "sound"

you "hear" defensiveness?

look at the context!

i just wrote of doing cancer research and seeing my findings verified with lifesaving result

GEE!

I GOT A NIFTY TOOLBOX!!!

that's very cheerful and chirping, exuberant even...

I wonder why there's so much pushback when people are defensive, instead of looking at what may've happened previously. Maybe it's a see no evil hear no evil type thing.
I personally think aggressiveness can be the ultimate defensiveness.

Some might say that defending the mind-bending methods of Scientology is aggressive. But it's more than aggression - it's destructive.

hey!

i mean like rully...

yer best pal gets it and ya git yer tail in gear and do something to even up the score?

mmmmm...feels GOOOOOD!

bartender?

i seem to have a... temporary cash flow shortfall this evening. OK with you if i reopen my tab?

thanx...

i'll have another of the same and pour a round for the house

Hey Bird, since you brought up the Auditor's Code, perhaps you can answer a question for me. The last line of the code reads:

Being that there is presently no official organization or regulating authority (that I am aware of) among the non-CoS auditors, how would you apply that part of the Auditor's Code?

It seems to me that if Charles Manson (an EX-Scientologist) got out of prison today there is nothing stopping him from setting up shop as an auditor and begin advertising for clients.

now how would i as CG apply it?

that IS a good question...

the freezone is whatever it is and i don't run it...

but...

yeah...

don't suppose there's a snowball's chance in hell COAS could ever sustain a certifying body...

but what a beautiful dream

to dream... the impossible dream...
to fight the unbeatable foe...
to love with unbearable passion...
to march where the brave dare not go!

to right...the unrightable wrong
to love...pure and chaste from afar
to try...when your arms are too weary
to reach...the unreachable star

this is my dream...to follow that star
no matter how hopeless no matter how far
to fight for the right ithout question or pause
to be willng to march into hell for a heavenly cause!

and i know if i'll only be true to this glorious quest
that my heart will lie quiet and still when i'm laid to my rest
and the world will be better for this
that one man scorned and covered with scars
should strive with his last ounce of courage
to reach...the unreachable star!

what's that mcgreevy?

my next round is ginger ale?!?

ya know, ned... it always brightens this joint up when the owner walks in

ahem...

it's very clear you have little understanding of my nature or my writing on this board <snip>

WRONG. It's very clear that YOU failed to bring YOUR personality, YOUR writings, YOUR nature close to YOUR readers.

It's everybody's job to bring their works, their message their personality, their works, their whatever, to the intended recipients; and you are failing miserably in ALL of these jobs - which is especially sad and frustrating, since you claim to be a poet.

I surely love my moments of solitude and silence, but when I'm dealing with people, be it live on stage, or with customers in my workshop, or with people who found their way into my electronics lab or my programmers corner, whatever, even when I'm just chatting with some friends in some nice, friendly place, it's MY fucking job to deliver MY messages in a nice, easily understandable way. If I fail in that, people will lose interest in my ideas, my plans, my projects, and ultimately, they will lose interest in ME.

Look kid (I don't care about your age, because right now you're just being an uneducated, stubborn little brat, living in it's fantasy world), this is where you fail: I can't even say if you have any message or personality, because it all gets choked and drowned in an undefinable and undigestable salad of letters, words without meaning, strange references most readers couldn't follow even if they wanted to, and other literary No-Nos.

Being a taxi driver can certainly teach one some basic lessons about how to deal with (sometimes strange) human beings - I can tell, because I've been one for a few years, but that does not make one a poet.

Look, even such a nice and intelligent person as Face shook his head, gave up and walked away - and that's not his fault, it's fucking yours.

There are so many wonderful people in this world, many probably just waiting to get to know you, but if you demand that they wade through hundreds of pages of trolling, undecypherable gibberish, childish "I am the judge and jury" games, "MY work is under pfrrrrtt lishnssss" statements and whatnot, I can perfectly understand why they turn around and walk away.

tl;dr
My prediction: If you don't change your ways, you'll end up not only alone but also very lonely, and it's your own fault.

EDIT:
Initially, this post was meant to be a general comment for this thread, but since it ended up as a reply to a post made here, I'll leave it here. The general content of my message applies here as well anyway, IMHO.

thank you for bringing this thread up

as that thread is titled "in defense of hubbard" it is those who accuse others of defending a man who is in fact the most influential philosopher of the twentieth century to be commiting a crime as he is a totally indefensible scumbag are the ones whose conduct could be called trolling

dianetics is here to stay

dianetics has very substantially added to our understanding of the mind and the soul.

just for one thing "oobie" or OOBE; out of body experience is now part of common parlance

it is the work of l ron hubbard which has made the oobie readily accessible to large numbers of people

Commander,

There is NO WAY that Hubbard is the most influential philosopher of the 20th century.

His influence is miniscule compared to the average philosopher.

He is nest to nothing.

"dianetics is here to stay . . ."

wut!? :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

(I can't contain the laughter)

Dianetics is a total JOKE as far as any decent understanding of the "mind" or "soul". I have learned so much more just studying and applying books on visualization.

And, this one sent me into fits of laughter for almost 10 straight minutes.

"in fact the most influential philosopher of the twentieth century . . . "

Again, wut!? :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

In fact? In FACT? Whose fact? A person high on weed? A person suffering flashbacks from too much LSD in the sixties? A person who has gotten immersed and saddled with the severe indoctrination of Hubbard's very effective mind control technology? Because, consistent brain-washing into Scientology PR CREATES PEOPLE who eagerly spout such incredibly moronic nonsense.

That has got to be one of the GOOFIEST statement I have EVER seen in print. Birdie, are you on a mission to post the most absurd things you can think of? Are you running an experiment here on ESMB to see how far you can stretch the limits of ridiculousness? :confused2:

You're probably right. Although I can certainly find more people who have heard about Reinhold Niebuhr than people who have heard about Hubbard, you may be right in your assumption that I will probably find more people who have heard about the criminal cult leader L. Ron Hubbard than those who who've heard about someone named reinhold neibuhr. All I could find on Google about "reinhold neibuhr" was from people who couldn't spell, so I think I haven't missed anything worth my time.

So, are we comparing what they are known for as well?

I fail to see that if I got out on the rainy streets and asked people if they had heard of Hubbard/Neibuhr would prove anything. Most people would have heard of Hubbard as a joke/scam/criminal/cultleader/sci fi writer/weird guy who created scientology - a "religion based on sci fi" Oh yes he definitively had an impact on the western society as someone to stay as far away from as possible.

I've no clue who Neibuhr is, is he a philosopher?

Oh yes, I found the green and red volumes to be of enormous help when I had a flat tire and could not find my jack. They are sturdy and held up my Hummer safely whilst I changed the tire.

I also found the "Basic Books" to be excellent kindling for my bon fire we had with the kids last night....you don't need lighter fluid or gas to start the fire - just a few Basic Books and they light up easily. Add a few more Basic Books and then add your logs and you will have the best bon fire that will last all night. We had a blast...perfect for roasting marshmallows too!!

I needed weight in my pick up truck to drive down my icy road last winter and found the "Research and Discovery" vols. to be just the perfect solution. It was late at night and I had to bring one of the kids to the emercency room during a blizzard! I had no bags of sand for weight in the back of the truck and then my spouse said...hey, what about those dusty ole Blue Books we bought from Scamonology sitting in our dumpster. PERFECT!! We loaded up the back of the truck and it worked like a charm. I can honestly say the Research and Discovery vols SAVED MY KIDS LIFE!!!

thank you LRH SIR!!

Other than those things - NO! Nothing else useful in Scientology - it is a cult and a total SCAM!
