I've got an idea: POSTING ASSISTANCE

Yes, at the bottom right-hand corner of every post is the ''+ symbol and you click that for every post you want to include in your own.

But doing that just displays them sequentially. I like the 'nested' version better (see above) but you have to do that by hand AFAIK and that's a bit trickier.

I didn't know that you could quote posts by clicking on the "+" (in fact I didn't even notice the plus sign before you mentioned it)! Thanks for the tip (and phenomanon for the thread).

Re: Posting Assistance

Here's how to do Multiquotes. I bet a lot of people have never used them. :)

Thank you, Paul!!! :happydance:

You know, I think I successfully used multiquote ONCE and then promptly forgot how to do it...I admit I have a bit of a mental block on using computers...the movie 2001 impinged when I was younger! LOL! :coolwink:

No, I'm just not that technically savvy...glad they are getting easier to use..I remember when you had to write your own software and learn coding languages to use them...so I do have a bit of a bias to overcome! :p

I appreciate any and all help with this! :) I'm a good gardener, so I do contribute to the world in other ways!

Glad you started this thread, phenom!

Re: I've got an idea

Well, even helping one is enough!
That is my new goal... If I go out there and see a Dianetics Stand somewhere... I'll talk to them and if just one person stands up and go away from them I am able to go to bed with a good feeling!
So for me doesen't matter how many ppl I can reach... one is enough for me! :)

I've not finished to look through this forum, yet. But as soon as I'm done I'm going to send some ideas how to improve some things over here! :)

cheers,
Max :)

EDIT: Don't get me wrong... After one standing up, I wont go home... Off course I'll stay there until those $CN's will leave that place!

Problems with or don't know how to post or PM images?

I've found that if you want to post or PM an image from a web-page, the easiest way to do it is just to 'right-click' over it, select 'Copy' (MSIE), or 'Copy Image' (Firefox) and then 'Paste' that into your post or PM. What could be simpler than that?

Maybe that's what everybody has been doing and I've only just sussed it out (it's pretty obvious really), but it's certainly not, (and is far simpler than) the method described in the 'manual'.

That is how I posted this image...

...and it's worked for all the others I've tried.

Enjoy!

Can't do that on opera, but can give URL to picture.

Hum.
I have a question. HTF (how the fvck) can I include an image in my posting from the computer, in large size?
When I do this by "insert image", uploading the file, I only get the image included as a very small version, and I can't change the size, the frame that seems to indicate that I can do this, does not react! In the preview, or the actual posting, it will only enlarge when clicking on it!

So I always have uploaded pictures as "thumbnails", as attachments, because it doesn't matter anyways...

I do not want to get the pictures on some webspace, web sites, just for that. They might expire and then the pics aren't shown here anymore. That's always stoopid, five people have clicked "lol!" for a posting that is three years old, and the picture isn't shown anymore. :confused2:

Another, related question. The files of anti-scio-wallpapers, funpics, Tony Ortega photos and so on that I have "collected" in the uploader and which I see again when uploading a new one - when I delete them, are they gone from my postings? I don't really want to try this out, as I can't edit the postings after that time.

Thanks!!! :p

Test:
Below, you should see a small picture with a rather philosophical comment of what Gerry Armstrong thinks of certain forged cheques. The picture has the size of about three centimeters, and only enlargens when you click on it (if at all - but it does so for me):

You could do this...

Ok. I have read your posting as "txt", I see the code I have to use. But where do I get the image from, hmm?
How do I upload it, when I don't want it to be attached (too)?
And how do I see its proper (new) file name, to insert it into this code? :confused2:
I mean, how have YOU done it, step by step, if possible. Thanks.

Edit: the collected files in my uploader still have their proper names. No "attachment 123" to insert.

OK .. I opened your thumbnail, then right-clicked the image and selected 'open in new tab'.

Then I went to that tab with the image and copied the address of it from the address bar.

Then I pasted that address between [img ][/img] tags.

I generally copy image URLs from photobucket and copy that between the [img ] tags.

If I use a pic from my exscn album, you get the BB code listed in the album page somewhere.

like this:

Ok. Did the first method and got the URL to put it into the code (didn't do it here):

http://www.forum.exscn.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=8323&d=1413097916

But that still leaves the problem that I do not want to post the picture in the posting AND as attachment... Sorry, but that's how it is, that's somewhat circular... :confused2:

Shall I upload them all to my profile, as "photo album" or something like that, so that I get links I can use?
I get that people are complaining about newbies posting tiny pics, but looking up the code list doesn't help for this.
That I can insert, upload pics directly into the posting (not, attaching them as thumbnails), but they stay tiny - that makes no sense!
On the other hand, Windows 8, as a whole, makes no sense too. :p

Maybe they don't stay tiny with other browsers or add-on settings...?? I wouldn't be surprised!
Do you (plural) upload pics the "insert" way and you can change their size? Hmm?

Thanks. :)

eldritch cuckoo,

Refer to this info about bbCode for phpBB. It's the same for vBulletin (this ESMB website)

https://www.phpbb.com/community/faq.php?mode=bbcode

If you have concerns about having an image on another website taken down and no longer appears THEN
you could open an account on photobucket.com and upload the image to your account there THEN post
[ img] <your photobucket image URL> [ /img]
into your post here.

HOW TO INSERT IMAGES INTO A POSTING

Made a photo album for my profile. Opened the album, clicked at the photo. Copied the URL. Added "IMG" tags.
Then the fun BEGAN.
Well, no, not really.

HYPERSPACE MESSAGE from planet USER - after reading this in "txt" and comparing codes:

Dudes & dudessas! If you want to insert images into a posting, then please consider the following:

In the "formatted text" window ("[SUP]A[/SUP]/A" button, tool bar, left, first row), each URL-looking text, without additional tags, when you paste it into the window, will immediately get wrapped with invisible "[URL ]"+"[/URL ]" tags.

These tags can be seen in the "source" mode (same button as before).

In the "formatted text" window this will only show by underlining of the link, and the color your browser uses for all links...

So if you paste your photo URL into the "formatted text" window, and then try to wrap it with "[IMG ]"+"[/IMG ]" tags, then this will NOT work, because of the additional "[URL ]" tags that have been automatically inserted. Only a functional link wrapped with "[IMG ]" tags will show.

Inserting images into a posting:

1) Open your photo album (etc), look for the "BB code" at the right side below the photo, which is the URL wrapped with "[IMG ]" tags. Copy this.
2) Paste this into the "formatted text" window.

Or, manually:
1) Look up your photo and copy its URL (up there at the top of the screen/browser).
2) Open the "text editor" program of windows, past the URL, and insert it into "[IMG ]"+"[/IMG ]" tags, without any spaces. Copy it.
3) Past it into the "formatted text" window.

Examples of the results, here with a few stray "spaces" inserted, so that it is shown as plain text:

That's what you copy & paste, that's how it looks in the "source" mode, and that's how it looks in the "formatted text" window until the picture shows (either for the fraction of a second or until you click on "preview post"... whatever):

[img ]http://www.forum.exscn.net/album.php?albumid=248&attachmentid=8324[/img ]

That's how it looks in the "formatted text" window, if you did it wrong, purple color stands for your default "link" color:

[img ]http: //www. forum.exscn.net/album.php?albumid=248&attachmentid=8324[/img ]

That's how it looks in the "source" mode, if you did it wrong:

[img ][URL ]http://www.forum.exscn.net/album.php?albumid=248&attachmentid=8324[/URL ][/img ]

HOWEVER, "programmer guy" (!)":
why should I upload an image from my computer to photobucket, THEN to my profile (= album??)...
THEN you write "... insert the photobucket URL into the IMG tags ..."
Wow, that really makes sense.
:faceslap: I don't even understand what you're trying to tell, and if I wouldn't know better, I would say all this is a bad joke.
And somehow I know that reading this whole book on code would NOT THE SLIGHTEST have told the small but for this "simple" task essential detail what the formatted text window automatically does to the codes and how this will mess it all up hopelessly. I guess you write in source mode... so to say...

Exactly the question I myself asked in post #19 of this thread. I don't know if I've been awake long enough yet today to get my head around Jump's method above, but I think I got the jist of it, tried what I thought he was getting at and, f**k me, it worked, so it's goodbye to thumbnails forevvah!
