Wow...powerful, POWERFUL video, Karen! You bring up so much to consider: First, that real religions teach ethics, honesty, compassion and so on; Co$, a fake, fraudulent "religion," not only does not demonstrate these things...it also INSTRUCTS members in lying effectively. Second, that this lying is a predictable feature of any Scientology material.

There was a mailing in Tony's Sunday Funnies today that featured graphs jaggedly improving and then soaring into the stratosphere. The graphs had no numbers. They could have been drawn by a child with a crayon. But I'm sure many of the people who receive them will think "Oh, everything is getting so much better by the minute!"

Then the juxtaposition in your video of news reporting of victims of Narconon versus the typical David Miscavige Nuremberg Rally-style extravaganzas is devastating.

(And I will tell you, Karen, that I am frequently eating my breakfast when I see these things, and watching David Miscavige almost brings it up again! Maybe you should have a warning at the beginning of vids that show David Miscavige: "Warning. This video contains nauseating material. Do not watch while eating.")

I had no idea about the many news reports covering deaths. Really overwhelming.

Hi - a comment - just because Bert Dexlier asks who Tony Ortega is doesn't mean he doesn't know who he is. He's in a deposition, he's fishing, he asks all manner of questions to get statements on the record, perhaps in this case to point out a connection to an enemy to weaken somehow Rinder's position. Who knows the tortured logic he has for asking a question? You play dumb and ask questions to find out what they know.

That said - I can point to a clear and obvious example, showing the Cult keeps it's lawyers in the dark: The Debby Cook trial - when she started talking about the abuse she received at David's hands, they folded the tent and got the hell out of Dodge before the gavel's echo's faded in the coutrtroom. They had no clue what the real story was.

So! Karen - is not telling someone vital information, lying?

I see your point but I think you missed something. If you go back and read the Q&A exchange, you will see that Karen is correct because the information provided by the church attorney's questions provided more than the church would want on record. Miscavige was probably pissed off that he even asked because Tony Ortega's blog is something he does not want to give any credibility to.

I found from my own experiences with these attorneys the church and Narconon hire, that they are kept ignorant intentionally on certain things and that sometimes that ignorance winds up being a ' foot bullet ' for the cult. Imagine an attorney finding out in a deposition that information is widely known except to the attorneys. The line of questioning provides the clues. I am certain that the attorney would not have proceeded in asking more about Ortega and his blog had he known in advance what the answers would be.

Mary, I don't disagree they keep them in the dark, however, I was talking to a friend about Karen's video who reads a lot of depositions, some times several a week, and she said it's a usual lawyers tactic - playing dumb to elicit information. Perhaps you both are right and he hasn't a clue. My bad if that's the case. I know there are many scio sites, pro and con that I have no idea of or have ever seen, so I guess it makes sense.

Perhaps you can explain this:

Mike Rinder provides Babbitt with a statement that says essentially: I helped make (author or get authored) the services Agreement, particularly drafting the clause about arbitrations, and that it was designed to carrying out Miscavages intentions to curtail refunds. Yet in his deposition, he constantly would say he didn't recall conversations, or what steps he took to achieve that goal. In my pea brain - one cancels the other out - because his deposition seemed evasive, and not backing up his statement. Am I wrong in my estimation of that?

Everyone, don't fail to watch Karen's latest video on her former husband, Heber Jentsch.

Karen exposes the tremendous pressure put on him by David Miscavige, which explains the aggressive and frequently strange and erratic interviews Heber gave in public.

She also mentions that Heber had an abusive father and that Miscavige took on that role for him. I'm a Mormon History buff, and I know a lot about fundamentalist polygamous families. Heber came from one. To me this explains an enormous amount about the poor man. I can only begin to imagine what 7 years in the Hole did to someone who was brought up to believe that punishment from an authority was punishment from God.

Thanks for a courageous and touching video, Karen. I look forward to the coming second half, in which you will talk about the damage done to your family.

in the early 90's heber, to my eyes, seemed more like someone swept along on a tide that was stronger than he could account for than a man holding the world in the palm of his hand. he had a sadness to his eyes. he danced when he was told to dance but i don't think his heart was in it. he had a prissy secretary that seemed to actually do the work of the office. i wondered just what he actually DID most of the time. when there were meetings occasionally - like when jesse jackson used to show up - he would be there and play the role, but in the off time he certainly was not any dynamic force driving public opinion of scn. hope he's okay.

YES! The "Good Roads, Fair Weather" doctrine of the Cult. They not so subtly direct one how to talk to those that are "not one of us" or "in the know."

And so many that had to write letters....and use the idea of "Good Roads, Fair Weather" did so at the direction of the Ethics Officer....and many of these letters are "checked over" first by the Cult before being sent out......

So they are actually FALSE information, LIES......and simple not true....

IMO, the Cult was always looking for and trying out different "Public Speaking Figures."

The Cult was looking for people that could get up on a stage....or at the Complex.....and "Be Dynamic" and "pull it off."

I cringed at some of these figures....like when Ronnie Miscavige was trotted out...on stage at the Shrine for the first time.

Heber .....well, in the 1990.....cut a "Father" figure, I suppose. A "Strong Man" that could "stand up" to the SPs and entheta....and many were glad to have someone else do that job....

There was that Lawyer also....can't recall his name right now. (Cooley was his name I believe...) But the Cult put him up on a stage too....and he would talk about the "Legal Battles...." and I suppose most were glad to get at least some information....(from outside the bubble...) BUT....looking back, of course....it was just information about Scientology's legal engagements......which meant for a "true believer" ....our enemies....and how "we" were winning.....

Perhaps...there is some "Father Figure" idea mixed up in this.

I would notice at the Shrine Events.....say....I believe, it was Norman Starky....would come out ....with his chest all puffed up and thrust forward...and belting out his speach......

And Guille LeServe....."attempting" to do the same.....but just not quite cutting it....

Or Ray Mitoff.......not cutting it at all, IMO....as a public speaker.

Anyway....why should the Top Technical Terminal in the cult.....be a great public speaker...anyway??

But of course.....these guys...were the top of the top...and "OT".....and "Cause" and should be able to do anything....I suppose....??? Just not so.

DM as a public speaker.....didn't cut it for me either. I more noticed the machine and "orchestration" behind the "timing" of his speachs....and the pauses...and manipulation of the crowd....via various mechanics.....to "achieve an effect...."

I had my suspicions...that all the men at these Shrine type of Events wore "corsets" to suck in their bellies and give their chests that thrust out look.....All so they could cut a better and more masculine figure.....in their monkey suits...

Anyway...there was never any heart to heart talk....it was always about Stats...and "Expansion".....and the "latest release" (that one could buy in the lobby on the way out....)

i agree to a point. the public figures used against scns at the events are sorted in a different basket to those dealing with media. karin pouw, for example, the current kool-aid-high sacrifice, is not at all a dynamic, pull-it-off kind of person. she's quiet, moody, more a behind the scenes worker. really i think the thing that works for her is that she is capable of carrying herself graciously instead of doing the peacock dance like the event speakers. any press releases and such that come out of her little posse of writers don't move an inch without approval from miscavige anyway so in the end it doesn't really matter. karin pouw is just the point of contact, not the point of view.
