I am but the rents are so high I seem to be stuck here. I really need to move.

The reason is the rents are too high. Some are starting to lower it here but it is still too high.

They are high. I cannot afford to lower mine to less than $1500. My mortgage payment is $1490. So what can a Landlord do?
They have depreciated the house from Approx $300,000 to approx $255,000. but my taxes went UP despite that. Go figure.
Thank gods that we can afford to miss getting the rent, but it doesn't feel good. I don't even want to rent to people who can't afford the rent.
Here's a huge rant. This chick comes in and says that she is on " Section 8" and she and her boyfriend and 3 children are looking for a place because they want to have more kids. Puke. I should rent to people who aren't responsible enuff to take care of themselves? I should think that they will take care of my house? I don't think so.
That's a thing that I totally agree with Scn about....don't reward "downstats".
I hope that you find a place where you will be happy.
Apologies to the Board for straying off topic.

We have rental property. We've never rented to Section 8 people because we've never had occasion to do so but a friend of my husband has done so and has never been sorry. The Section 8 entity takes care of EVERYTHING, remittance of rent, any problems- everything.

It would be worth considering.

I do understand the cost of everything as I have been looking at somehow putting a home on some land I could get but that costs too much for me too. I took care of my father's money at one time and know the cost of things.

Sadly I don't agree with you. Not all on Section 8 are bad people you have to check out the people first.

I am for the Venus project so I don't agree with your mean words.

Don't judge everyone by one person. That is what the church does.

I guess I may be called downstat as well as I am not rich or even middle class.

Have a good day.

Thank you Fluffy.

My place is worn out. I been here about 9 going on ten years. Nothing has been painted but by me. I have no room to store anything. I am lucky to have my kitty find a place to sleep but I made a spot she liked by me.

I am scanning my art pics into the computer so I can clear the pics out of here. I have no closets, one cupboard and no kitchen counters or coat closet. No bedroom and I paint where i eat my food or supposed to eat my food. I usually eat at the computer or standing up.

My heat fails constantly. Landlord has known about it for the last year and a half.

I can say that landlords can scream at you if you want things fixed. The person who had this place before screamed at me when I needed the shower floor to be replaced.

I had a landlord threaten to cut my son's. *** off. So don't tell me about landlords. I had one rob my security deposit by hanging up on me and I could not find the receipt. They almost always keep it and lie about what was wrong or not wrong in it.

The current ones cut corners as the rent is low and I know they can't afford to buy a lot of things. But the granddad who used to have it did a better job. They are ok people but they are more interested in the money as they are paying the mortgage to the granddad. I did write on the church about the heat and he stopped by and said write when it fails so I am. What that will do is about nothing as they keep telling me they will fix it.

So I have to go up higher in rent and maybe not be able to keep my minivan on the road.

It is why I am for the Venus project for this system is failing everyone but the elite.

It's illegal for landlords not to do proper maintenance- heat definitely would be paramount. Do check out the landlord tenant act for the state in which you live (would be in state statutes) and contact a tenant's rights organization.

Barb,

To be polite, yet blunt, I think you are just a trifle undereducated in the art of "getting what you need and want."

My wife and I do property management in California, so I can't say specifically what the laws in your state are.

As Claire said, there are laws governing landlords...

Try getting on the net and reading up on your state's rental housing laws. Read your local paper's "action line" - where consumer complaints are resolved. Get to know the author - by reading the column. Once you have a feel for the action line person, write him or her and state your problems and ask for help.

On a metaphysical level, get a vision of where you would like to live. Write it out on paper. Be realistic, but stretch the envelope a little. Perhaps there is a job where you could be a caretaker for an older person, where you are really just there to be a friend and do an occasional errand. There are snowbirds that go to Florida every winter and take a companion with them.

Money is not always what gets you something. A friendly smile sometimes makes a better impression.

There was a song that Mama Cass sang, "You've gotta have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna make that dream come true?"

The secret is that the physical universe is a manifest record of what you've thought yourself into. If you don't envision your future, you get bupkis. Take the bull by the horns, and start envisioning a better life. Put some goals out there that you really want, and work toward them.

There was a tiny little teeny weenie booklet by Ruth Minshull and Ed Lefson about getting what you want. I don't know the title, but you could probably ask around and find a copy.

If you can just identify two or three major purposes in your life (such as love, beauty, knowledge), and then tailor some goals for yourself to enhance yourself, your family, the world -- then work on those articulated goals, things will begin to fall in place. This is just a law of nature. It really works this way.

Do not envision non survival goals. Think in terms of win win, it enhances your karma. If you can't help thinking non survival thoughts, get someone comfortable to get you to look at each thought and find how each thought solves a problem, you can go earlier with the process by finding earlier similar solutions and the problems that they solved. Eventually you'll find something that makes you laugh. Do this, if necessary, with someone, not by yourself. You don't need an e meter. You just need a kind ear.

There are many things that you can do to raise your personal power, and thus influence your destiny and your ability to do and to have.

If you can find someone to sit with and just look at them (the being, not the body) and vice versa. No "flunks" just enjoying each other's space. You will find your beingness expands, and you can more effortlessly get what you truly want. Each of you can up the gradient by asking "what happened?" when something comes between you as you're doing this.

When my daughter was in college, she was in a production of "Rent." Before each show, she would grab a fellow cast member and just be present with them for ten or fifteen minutes. They would both invariably be better performers because of that quick little action.

Excuse me for not minding my own business.

well, as Robert Preston sang Meredith Wilson's lyrics in "The Music Man,"

"Either you're closing your eyes to a situation you do not wish to acknowledge...Ragtime, shameless music that will grab your son, your daughter, in the arms of jungle animal instinct mass hysteria... friends the idle brain is the devil's tool"

I'm just trouble with a capital "T"

Hi All!

This was posted in another forum by my friend Lynn who is not a member of this group and I wanted to share it with you:

FINALLY :))) I get to relax a bit and write.

The Freezone Convention seems to fill several areas of interest. From the
idea of networking, Diana was extremely gracious in having speakers explain
their services and viewpoints in front of the group.

Each person had value in what they were doing and offering. For myself, I found
that I could actually take a few different viewpoints from different people,
combine them and come out with some different ideas (something I enjoy doing).

From the area of wanting services, the Convention was great for getting to know
different people and possibilities.

For those people who had entered the church after 1980 or so, it gave them the
opportunity to meet people who had materials from much earlier. Some even from
the original Dian./Scn days.

For those who were genuine "old timers" it gave them a chance to meet and
perhaps even see how things have changed within the "church".

Also, there were a couple of "new" people who had not ever been in the church.
This gives them the opportunity to see the variety of options open to them.

From the area of just meeting people of "like-mind" - it was a great way to
simply meet people and have some fun and learn some things along the way.

The whole convention was "well done". Diana is absolutely unbelievable with her
ability to coordinate and "BRING IT ON" with whoever jumped on her wagon. Her
energy is wonderful and smooth. She's like a "one man band committee" :)))

I have to say that Ed Berwick's "auditor", "Quncy" was very OT. I highly
recommend him to anyone. Has anyone seen the "pug" dog in "Men In Black"? Quincy
only needed the sunglasses. I have to say that Ed was very well behaved, and
Quincy only had to take him out of the convention once or twice, to do
"business".

I confronted and had a chance to get off some old charge "to" an auditor I had
back in the mid 80's, where at that time, I told him he should leave the church
and two weeks later I received this weird letter from CofS (on gold paper)
warning me about hanging around any SP's, bla bla bla. I just assumed he had
turned me in since he was still an FSM at the time. I watched his face as I told
him and thought it rather amusing. But, at least I handled my side - lol!!

Then on to Diana's party at her home!! What a great "home" and the food was
great too!! Diana's expertise in "networking" allowed me to meet a few people
closer to where I live and get my own get togethers going with doing TR's and
other things as well.

I'm having someone come over in a couple of weeks, thanks to Diana's
introductions. From there, I intend for things to grow and blossom :)

I totally enjoyed talking to Diana in person and just couldn't seem to leave -
lol!! I think Ed and I were practically the last one's out the door or really
close to it.

Oh and I got the chance to see what room Pierre had stayed in and what his
situation was. Had he been in a "hotel" of equivalent comfort, he would have
been paying "at least" $300.00 or more per day (during the week) and most likely
$450.00 a day on the weekends.I would have been extremely grateful to have had a
house like that to audit in/from. It wasn't just the room itself, it was the
whole environment outside the house as well. What a fantastic view a person
can expand out with after a session, plus lots of greenery and peace and quiet
when one needs it.

Well, this is what I have in a "nutshell" without going into details of what all
the speakers had to say and such.

For now, I believe the next convention will be at another very beautiful home up
north of California. I'm sure as the time comes close, this will be announced as
to who will hold it and where it will be. I certainly hope the convention grows
and becomes a stable "icon" for those who are of the "independent" mind and want
actual freedom to be - do - have their life the way "they" want!

With love,Lyn

Handles Would Have Been Nice

I wish we had all put our ESMB handles on our name badges,
so as to come out of mystery with some.

"Diana" did do a good job and served up a Power-packed Convention.

When can we expect the videos to be posted ? :D

Freezone Convention? Will Elron ElRay show up? How about CBR, will he manifest? Will the sky be filled with Galactic Patrol ships? Will the OafTee 44s reveal they can sit in a rocking chair and make it rock?
