My Favorite Ron Pic

actually, i would hardly call this one "batshit crazy"

ron did some research with plants at st hill and produced 18 foot tall tomato plants and cucumbers the size of watermelons

this was back in the early sixties just after ron got to england and it got some attention in the scientific community. who, of course invalidated it saying it was done with large doses of fertilizer. which, of course, translates to "bull***t". he said he did it by talking to the plants and getting feedback from the plants with the e-meter. the scientists actually posed an experiment to disprove ron's statements. they divided a greenhouse in half and moved in a bunch of plants tended on one side by straightfaced scientists in white labcoats and on the other by little old ladies who talked to the plants. both groups received identical soil, planters, fertillizer, sunlight, water etc.

and the little old ladies plants went "whee!" and grew all over the place and on the other side the plants kind of moped...

I used to hear "stories" like that when I was in. No proof though.

I liked the one where he pretended to be a photog and went and took pictures of some South American dictator type of guy, you know 60/70's type, and during the course of the photo shoot he was able to turn the guy around. Of course the story didn't have any names or a country name or any proof at all...just a tall tale.

the important point of the post is that, whether or not results occurred it is a photograph of ron doing actual research. i appreciate the ambience of the board but sometimes i do think it appropriate to enter a more serious note. scientists until very recently were commonly mocked as "batshit crazy" just because they looked very odd. indeed, for centuries scientists were frequently executed as heretics
