Biography

Debbie has traveled quite a lot of the world and experienced many diverse cuisines and cultures.

Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2000 at the Mayo Clinic, following many years of self abuse - smoking, excessive caffeine, poor and erratic sleep, combined with lots of stress - Debbie embarked on extensive research, study and visits to clinics to better understand her condition and to recover her health. After years of trials, she mapped her own way to a recovery of her health.

Considering all it took for her to find the answers to proper treatment and a recovery of her health, Debbie decided to write a series of books to make it easy for others to understand what is most important about health and to help those who are suffering with chronic illness.

She founded HealthKick as a means of simplifying healthy living information and making it as easy as possible to eat and live using healthier habits. She wrote the book, "HealthKick, Easy Healthy Living Hacks" to accomplish this. The HealthKick website and blog www.HealthKick.com is also packed full of information, with more added almost everyday.

Debbie also founded Fibro-Free, www.FibromyalgiaFree.org to provide helpful information to those suffering from Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue or Chronic Illness. Her book, "FIBROMYALGIA, Chronic Fatigue and Chronic Illness; Navigating through the confusion and lies and uncovering the real solutions to recover your health" is a summary of the best information and treatments to be able to recover from these debilitating syndromes and diseases.

Her next book, "Is Sugar Killing Me?, The Healthy Alternatives", focuses more on the dangers of sugar consumption as a leading cause of obesity and thus obesity related diseases and disabilities. Here she investigates alternatives to sugar, exposing the dangers of artificial sweeteners and explaining the best options in natural sweeteners. She then founded Sin Free Desserts - www.sinfreedesserts.com - introducing a line of desserts that are: free of sugar, free of any artificial sweeteners, wheat and gluten free, additives and preservatives free, low in carbs, high in protein, high in fiber and contain good omega 3 oils. In other words, ways to indulge that are actually good for you.

While her loves are her husband, her dogs and her home and the Texas Hill Country, her passion is helping others, which she works at through her writing.

"One doesn’t have to be the VP Sales for some huge corporation to be under stress. You might work for a small company and simply have a mean, grumpy boss, or worse a somewhat sadistic boss or co-worker and be under a lot of stress as a result of their repeated antagonism toward you."

Flag can handle that.

And by the way, years ago I was involved in the development of one of the few drugs approved for the treatment of Fibro, so I won't be talking out of my ass, here.

Sometimes I wish I could use my real name and credentials (other than to the 4 or 5 of you who know who I am IRL), because there is always the suspicion that someone anonymous on the internet is exaggerating or talking from their posterior orifice. I just want to say that I range over a variety of topics on this board, but anything I throw out about medical stuff comes from my experience, and when I really don't know a subject well (e.g. oncology) I'm upfront about that.

I truly feel that ex-$cios have suffered enough from misinformation and health-threatening, enforced behaviors that anything I can do to reverse that is actually a duty, given my own good fortune to have the mentors and experience that I have had. You don't have to always agree with me, but have no doubt that whatever I take a firm stand on medical-wise, has a good background in data and experience.

I truly do want everyone on the board to throw off the shackles of thought that have threatened your health in the Co$, and continue to threaten it insofar as Hubbard' mental chains have not been evaluated and discarded by all of you exes.

She's done extensive research! Extensive research of articles about using turmeric powder to kill AIDs. America has no national health system making medicine readily available to everyone, so it has two medical systems.

In one people experiment themselves using water purifying treatments to get rid of chronic disease, eating only sauerkraut, or drinking only un-treated raw milk to get rid of undiagnosed ailments. Desperate for a cure they try anything.

In the other there are snake oil salesmen with or without a doctors degree who claim to have a cure for complex medical syndromes like CFS/ME Fybro and Lyme. All you have to do is buy their books, their special protocol and a consultancy. They will test your blood for the invisible signs that you need their help for years. It all makes perfect sense, all that's wrong with you is the Candida, toxins and the bacteria that we can't find by simple blood tests. This bit is similar with all of them, but the cure is different every time, just a little different and very complicated. Herpes is a terrible epidemic, there are special websites for people with herpes, despite the fact that the majority of Americans have been exposed to the viruses.

Having the National Health Service in the UK makes treatment cheap, we all pay out of our monthly wages, but the cure for CFS is to try pacing yourself and there are virtually no doctors that have a clue about Lyme Disease or Fibro. I do see a specialist in ME and I managed to get him to allow me to have a blood test for Lyme, knowing that all chronic diseases are good at hiding and probably won't be found. Take Herpes viruses, EBV is there when you have the fever, Cold Sores can be swabbed for testing, as can the naughty sores down bellow, but otherwise they are not in the blood. Lyme apparently lives away under special 'blankets' that make it undetectable until it's time to party and then you can even find the little bleeders in sperm and vaginal juices. They now think it could be transferred sexually. In the UK, and Europe Herpes is a skin condition that most people have, best not to kiss if you feel your lips tingling, and the same goes for the other one, use a condom.

So these are three medical approaches. Debbie appears to belong to the second group, the snake oil specialists who would like to earn money by 'helping' people, it's a very large group of people. You could also say that she has worked hard getting over her chronic illness and has found some things that helped and wants to share, and is doing so by selling her tips. Her biggest tip would be avoid stress! that's something she did, eventually. Getting rid of stress, that worked.

On her site, it's the "my body was full of viruses, bacteria and candida" trail so she has taken several long antibiotics treatments, and the plan at the time of writing is to take an antibiotic every day for the rest of her life. Plus organic food, low stress etc. She says she recovered for a while, but then became very ill again when a high stress situation occurred (being sued by Scn?) so had to go through treatment again.

(I was personally very lucky, I had fibromyalgia a number of years ago, but it eventually resolved after cutting down on physical and mental stress, no treatment. But I guess that would make a very thin book. :p )

I haven't even gone to her site, but I am, unfortunately, extremely familiar with the antibiotic "cures' for chronic pain and inflammation. Protip: when examined in DBPC studies, they show bupkis improvement over PBO.

I will avoid her site and judge the book on its stand-alone merits first, then I will head to her web presence to see what else I find. If my head doesn't explode first.

Debbie has zero medical credentials, so any book would be about how she has managed to keep it at bay, as am really really doubtful that she has managed a cure.

The whole issue of the body having toxins which can be eradicated by juicing, fasting blah blah blah really irritates me, as the body already has a perfectly workable excretion system in the form of kidneys and liver.

Summa Cum Laude
I have not read everyone's post yet regarding this, but I'm sure y'all have noted that Debbie Cook does not have any medical training. Also, her book is self published.

The biggest thing I noticed about the book, and this is merely judging the book by its cover.... it looks uncannily similar to another book cover we all know and "love". :melodramatic:

I created this side by side view and posted it at the Underground Bunker yesterday.

I'm so conflicted about all this recent Debbie Cook Stuff. :confused2:

Probably should keep my mouth shut...But, I've already opened my big fat, stupid and run-on mouth too much on ESMB so here goes. :melodramatic:

I'm truly sorry that Debbie has Fibromyalgia. I've done some reading about Fibromyalgia and empathize with the pronouncing symptoms I've read. As far as her book goes, I won't be buying or reading it.

On another Thread and Rinder's Blog Post there has been much said about Debbie--pro and con--and her 17 years as "Captain" of the FSO". I'm not gonna enter into that discussion as I only vaguely recall her from my time during the mid 70's to early '80's as a Flag Senior Exec--other than to say that, IMHO, her 17 years as "Captain" was more a sign of the times and the rabid commitment, competence and dedicated to Hisself's life's continuum of numerous Folks I knew and will not attempt to name.

During the time Debbie was doing her 17 as "Captain" FSO there were also other Org ED's and CO's that remained on Post for years (some still there, AFAIK) with "Stats" that woulda had you "Shot" during the latter '60's-early '80's. :coolwink:

Debbie's Email was certainly a watershed moment--amounst many by others that "set the stage" for her "Moment". I do not--and have stated so before on ESMB--begrudge her one iota for setteling for the Dough.

But, sorry, IMHO at this point her "Shtick" is all about how to "get some more dough from my misfortune, mistreatment or malady".

I've got TBI from multiple and one final contrecoup hemorrhagic lesion and mass (more than the diameter of a half dollar) to my right anterior lobe...From that final "event" my GCS was 7, PTA was >7 days, LOC was 16-20 hours. My TBI has been confirmed by CAT, MRI, multiple Neurologists examination and Psychologists testing. It's a miracle I'm alive, can read and Post on this Board. I've got pretty much every Fibromyalgia symptom I read...Plus a whole bunch of other Stuff I'm not gonna dwell on here.

So what's my point?

One of my dearest friends (30 years) that has helped me immeasurably is a brilliant Psychotherapist and has for several years tried to encourage and help me write a book about what I've been through surviving and living with TBI. I'm just not up to it anymore...There's so much that has been better written, more accurate and helpful than what little I have to say. I'm a sissy compared to most of my TBI Brethren. :eyeroll:

Maybe Debbie's book is the "Seminal" work re: Fibromyalgia. I dunno. :confused2:

Unfortunately I'm very leery, cautious and suspect of former SO Senior Execs, long term Scns and, especially, "Inner Circle" members...Such as myself!

Sorry to hear that Face.

I had to look it up ...to find out what TBI was. It says an external force or blow.....causes it.....but you don't say that....?

Too many words to look up.

Anyway....were you hit in the head?

Yep.

I've Posted about this here and there on ESMB over the last 5+ years. Concussions from falling out of the hay barn when I was 5, concussions and hairline skull fractures from Football in High School and College (Middle Linebacker & Strong Safety) , Rodeo (Bulldogging, Bareback & Saddle Bronc), Ranching and then one "final blow" about 10 years ago.:coolwink:

PS: Starting with my fall from the hay barn...Within a 3" diameter spot on my right upper forehead I've had 57 stitches, 7 concussions and 2 hairline fractured skulls over 50 years. The countercoup for all this trauma was the right anterior brain lobe. The last "event" was some years back. I've been pretty damn careful about my head since then. LOL:coolwink:

The book is can now be purchased and downloaded.

So far it has four 5 star reviews.

The Look Inside feature is now working, and one can see the Table of Contents, among other text. Things that stand out to me include use of the word "workable," the chapter "A Drug-free, Natural Approach to Treatment," and ABOUT THE AUTHOR.

I am sorry too about her fibromyalgia, had it myself once too. When my son stopped trying to do himself in, it gradually went away.

On the subject of her book, I wonder if her frames of reference are based on 17 years of study at Flag?

We all know how that went.

Being a bit lazy myself at the moment, I'll wait for someone else to tell us what's in it.

I think what irritates me about the, 'change your diet, etc school of thought is that it perpetuates the notion that it's, your fault.

A friend of mine who has stage 4 cancer, so it's terminal, has gone through chemotherapy which isn't working. The reason it isn't working is because her cancer has spread and she has secondaries all over her body. Her oncologist tells her that she needs to, 'stay positive,' at which point she asks, 'but isn't it about the science, and not my frame of mind...'

So, yes, diet can help, maybe positive thinking can help, or make one feel better, but diseases are biological.

She calls herself a "healthguru" now? And she promotes herself as an author of health books? Plural? What other books?

Well at least her arrogance is still healthy.

In her chapter on alleviating stress I wonder if she recommends getting a multi-million dollar settlement followed by a long vacation in the carribbean?
