Welcome, BLB,

Here's some stuff I found interesting upon exit: here

Another was the Vistaril in Hubbard's body when he died.

Many things you say I share - I've seen things work and yet there's these things above.

Wild stuff!

Welcome!

I do apologize for the dirty mouth because I understand that it's cheapening the point of what I'm expressing and out of respect to those who do not appreciate it in their everyday life. I'm going to lurk posts for a bit and catch up so I'm not just asking questions that are already taken care of. Thanks again guys. I'm happy I found this message board.

You don't actually have to know everything before you post. This board is here to help you sort it out.

Another enlightening book is Bare Faced Messiah.

It was one of the first things I read when I got on the net and I found it to be very well researched with lots of stuff I didn't know about LRH.

When I first escaped I went to my city library and spent a couple of months just sitting there and reading the following:

L. Ron Hubbard: Messiah or madman? Bent Corydon and L. Ron Hubbard Jr, N.J. : L. Stuart, 1987.

Bare-faced Messiah: The True Story of L. Ron Hubbard Russell Miller, London: Joseph, 1987.

Religion Inc.: The Church of Scientology Stewart Lamont, London : Harrap, 1986.

A Piece of Blue Sky: Scientology, Dianetics and L. Ron Hubbard Exposed Jon Atack, N.Y., N.J. : Carol, 1990.

Cult Controversies: The Societal Response to New Religions James A Beckford, London, N.Y. : Tavistock, 1985.

I was shocked and so wished I had done some research BEFORE getting involved. Some of these books were written before I joined in 1986, but certainly they were there for me to read before I left in 1992. Once in, though, you simply don't want to look in case you miss the opportunity to go OT, even if you have doubts.

I was also ashamed for a long time after leaving.

Most of us spend time researching a new motor vehicle, our homes, investments, diet, exercise regime and all the miriad of things in life before we buy.

But here I had given my time, money, emotional wellbeing and, in fact, my entire life's direction to an organisation without even checking up on it.

I eventually forgave myself but it took ages.

After my escape, I had a section of my library that I had to hide whenever my scientology friends (true friends) came by to visit. I didn't want to upset them.:screwy:It was almost as if I was ashamed of researching the truth.
I ended up giving those books to a friend who was still "in", but beginning to question scientology.
I don't hide that stuff anymore.

Hello BlindLB,

There is SO much material out there. What to recommend first...

Okay, 3 suggestions:

  1. If you're interested in hearing from someone who spent time with Hubbard, try the video by Hana Eltringham Whitfield from early 2010:
    http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/special_eds/20100308/scientology/
  2. Did you find the St Petersburg Times series from 2009/2010?
    http://www.tampabay.com/specials/2009/reports/project/
  3. And, just in case you never saw it, how about the article that caused all that fuss back in the '90's?
    http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,972865,00.html
Enjoy!

I guess that, after all this time, one of the things I learned is "why should one have to not only JOIN an ...ology but also why does it have to consume one's entire LIFE?"

I am simply amazed by all the info I've read since running into this site; court records, skeletons in the closet, lies, fake ass pr on Scn's side, how stupid we were to not question or maybe how fearful we were to not speak up, investigate, do a real doubt formula or how easily we'd brush aside the obvious. How easily a lot of people were declared at low and high ranks for having questions or disagreements. Utter bullshit. I want to speculate on how he rose above the bank by self hypnosis and mocking up bullshit to feed to us. keeping scientology working my ass. I am pissed off but relieved that that is no longer part of my everyday life and feel pity for my old friends who can't get out. thanks guys. seriously wow. I would've easily talked shit about every single one of you while I was in the org but now I see how wrong I've been.
