Scientology’s David Miscavige, insulted by ‘No Narconon in Frederick’ vote
Wire Service Media Release (06/05/2015) by David Love
"This could turn into another Vietnam for the cult if Miscavige chooses to fight in court. I think a lawsuit would come across as vindictive and frivolous, so would create "bad PR' as Hubbard put it. Even if 2 'members' caved in, a revote would still maintain the status quo and the Miscavige REIT would have a piece of property they could only sell," stated an Anonymous source on WWP to Cult Examiner, David Love. Earlier, this same source that has diligently been 'following' Scientology for decades, said, "In the years I have observed Scientology, I have never seen the cult so agitated."
Following the Frederick, Maryland council vote 6 to 1 turning down a Scientology entities attempt to 'back-door' a Narconon opening at Trout Run, opinions and comments are spanning the spectrum about what David Miscavige's next orders will be. Former senior executive of the Church of Scientology International, Mike Rinder, says on Tony Ortega's blog that, "Miscavige will treat it [being voted down as an insult], and he doesn't take kindly to being insulted."
"Tony, it's all a PR move by David Miscavige," Rinder told us. "When the flaps really started happening with Narconon in Oklahoma, Miscavige went out and said, we're going to out-create this, and he purchased these properties for the equivalent of Ideal Orgs for Narconon. Really they're for show. And so he can tell Tom Cruise and Kirstie Alley and whoever else is left that we have the perfect place for you to bring your friends who have drug problems."
Many agree with Rinder and others take it step a step further on ESMB, stating, "Hypothetically speaking, an exclusive, low-profile 12 bed Narconon [Frederick Trout Run] drug rehab facility, far from the prying eyes of the press, just outside of Washington, DC, is tailor-made OSA facility designed to attract the son or daughter of a high profile DC mover and shaker. If Bristol Palin or someone of her stature were to develop a substance abuse problem, it is not much of a stretch to envision Greta or John Coale recommending "Trout Run" as an "Ideal" facility for substance abuse detox. She and her husband move effortlessly within the corridors of power in Washington."
One ex-Scientologist who worked at the Scientology, Washington DC Org, agrees that this small, 12 bed, Narconon drug rehab is not for the income, once operating costs are calculated - it's for the prestige that this 'DC Narconon' would give Miscavige, being widespread respect and admiration internationally. These are disturbing implications when one considers that foreign diplomats or political figures may send their family members to a DC Narconon where Scientology could build dossiers of Intelligence and dirt on clients and their families. Thus, Scientology's own 'secret service' and 'dirty tricks' entity, Office of Special Affairs, would have access to all confidential patient files. Kept in these patient Case Files are sessions and confessions of 'Overts and Withhold' written out and given to Narconon staff, some being the patient's deepest, darkest secrets, and those of their family members and others.
These files are promised to be kept secret and have a co-called 'Priest Penitent' privilege, according to Scientology, but as countless ex-Scientology members and Narconon clients have stated, this is not the case. "Scientology confessions made today will be used tomorrow against those who become critics or speak out against Scientology.

Battle against Narconon needs to go to the Legislature
snip:
If opponents truly want to stop the program’s encroachment into Frederick County, they need to broaden their scope and start to petition members of the Maryland General Assembly. The state has serious problems with opioid and heroin addiction. Only the most effective, science-based treatments should be acceptable.

Clinical neuropsychologist Jim Lamott, who is based in Frederick and is familiar with Narconon, summed up the program as “abuse masquerading as rehabilitation” at a meeting last week.
We could go on, but we’ll leave our readers to do their own research — numerous sources are available online, including lawsuits brought about by deaths of program participants. Let’s just say saunas, vitamins and wishful thinking sound about as effective as “praying away the gay.”

You're hitting the nail on the head.

Lawyer Graham Berry talks about how Scientology abuses the US legal system (1/5)
Nice to see the dwindling spiral of Narconon.
David Miscavige is a total failure as leader of Scientology.
"Abuse masquerading as rehabilitation" - perfect summation of NarCONon.
Dave (and any other old NNers) do you remember the NN that was set up in Egypt that was the forerunner of all these "upstat" centres? IIRC, it was in some sort of luxury former hotel and opened to great (internally at least) fanfare. Within two years it had basically disappeared from view.
Back in 2006/2007 when I was ED NN ANZO, the ED ABLE ANZO told me they (ABLE) were going to buy a "luxury" property outside of Lithgow, a small town on the western edge of the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. It was able to hold maybe 20 people plus staff and the pitch to me was this would be a place for wealthy clientele to go to dry out in absolute privacy - a "celebrity" NarCONon. I was supposed to recruit staff for it immediately as it was all to be approved very soon and it would charge a lot more than the average NN because it was to cater for a far wealthier public.
It faded without a trace - never happened. Nor did I recruit anyone for it as I could see it would be dead in the water even if the property were bought. But it was also at this time the idea of Continental NarCONons close to Continental ABLEs (along with ApS schools, WTH Foundations etc etc) and "Ideal" ones to boot was floated to me by the ED ABLE ANZO. I'd wanted to move the Cont NN office to Melbourne where there was a functioning NN but this was nixed because the "major" and "ideal" NN HAD to be near the CLO/ABLE office. As did the "Ideal ApS" with school etc..
This is an old strategy that's only just started really happening. I was surprised when Yarramalong was purchased as I thought even DM would have forgotten this losing strategy from nearly ten years ago - but it shows one just how stuck in the past $cientology really is.
And how they just keep doing the things that fucked up badly last time as well.![]()

A substance abuse rehabilitation center associated with the Church of Scientology will not be able to open at Trout Run, a 40-acre property in the Catoctin Mountains near Thurmont.
At least for now.
The Frederick County Council on Tuesday voted 6-1 against placing Trout Run on the Frederick County Register of Historic Places, which would have allowed Narconon to move forward with its plans to open the center on the site. Only Councilman Billy Shreve voted in favor of the designation. Council members Tony Chmelik, Kirby Delauter, Jerry Donald, Jessica Fitzwater, M.C. Keegan-Ayer and Bud Otis all opposed it.
Even though the council’s vote makes it so Narconon cannot open the center on the property under the county’s zoning rules, Narconon is now exploring all options available for how it could open on the site, said Yvonne Rodgers, Narconon’s East U.S. executive director. [..]
The County Council voted down Narconon’s application for a treatment center at Trout Run last week, effectively ending the Scientology-affiliated program’s bid to start a live-in rehab program in Frederick County. [..]
On June 5, The Frederick News-Post published an editorial recommending that the Narconon issue needs to be dealt with at the state level. The News-Post reasonably argued that the County Council’s vote on the historical designation of the Trout Run property is merely a short-term solution. Since I sit on the Health and Government Operations Committee in the House of Delegates, I believe that this is an issue that very closely aligns with our work. [..]
The Narconon issue has become highly emotional. Decisions regarding their suitability should not be influenced by these factors or any religious connection that the organization might have. The state of Maryland has a very detailed approval process in place that critically evaluates scientific and medical practices and outcomes.
Nevertheless, given that Narconon has no evidence of independent endorsements of their program, and the state of Georgia has recently banned their facilities, many of us will be watching very closely to ensure that an application submitted by their organization meets the strictest definition of the law.
