God, she's still gorgeous! She is absolutely one of my heroes.

Yes, she doesn't look weathered and beaten down like the staff that has been around that long in the murky sea of lies. She, unlike them, was able to breath the fresh air and see the lies and find her freedom. I think she looks great!

I love this picture in her story on Arnie's website linked to below. That whole sixties 'Avengers' kind of look! When I first saw her I thought, "Goodness, how lovely!" Then you see the picture where she looks so careworn after she's been put through the mill all those years by Scientology. And it's so nice to see her now looking so terrific again.

She got an easy ride compared to our hero Marty Rathbun...:coolwink:

It's true, she's still stunning, but it's her immense courage that has always stood out.

"...With all the Private Investigator activity that Marty and Mike were reporting, in my opinion what they were reporting seemed lame and tame. In my experience with the same activity perpetrated by the Scientology conglomerate legal and intelligence dis-abler mechanism (Which Marty and Mike were a significant part of), my experiences with Private Investigator activity were far more extreme. Comparatively speaking, it seemed to me that Marty and Mike were having more of a lovers spat [with Miscavige] as opposed to a real showdown."

Great interview!

She is amazing! Scientology is not amazing. A better description might be hideous cult monstrosity.

I may have missed it, but I don't ever recall reading an Indie Scientologist roundly condemning Hubbard for being a despicable criminal for a multi-year-long crime wave against this innocent woman for simply having told the truth. Yes, I have seen some occasional light wrist tapping ("Oh that Ron, he was so uptone he sometimes overdid his game playing a little bit", wink wink).

More typically, if I direct a conversation to that, I hear: "Jeez, Ron has been dead 26 years!"

But his policies are not dead and neither are the insane criminals in the CoS today who continue to follow those evil "source" scriptures.

Come on Indies, suck it up and let's hear how independent your thoughts and voice really are. I hear a deafening silence on this one.

Editing Note to Mark Bunker: The copy scroll at the beginning of the clip is neutralized by the Paulette voiceover. They cancel each other out so the dramatic impact of her story is lost unless you happen to know it. I realize this is a teaser trailer, but I love the work you do too much not to mention it.

After DM does the Bulgravian Boogie and when the cult does a fly-by-night out of Clearwater, Florida, and the town has a declared day of holiday, a parade, and a fireworks display ... Paulette should definitely be flown in and given a position of honor at the celebration.

Some earler videos - Nancy Many talks about Hubbard and Paulette Cooper.

From the Affidavit of Tanja Burden http://www.lisamcpherson.org/burden.htm:

"At the Fort Harrison I remained LRH's personal messenger. I observed LRH control the operation of Scientology in various 'Orgs' worldwide from the Fort Harrison. I coded and decoded messages to and directly from Hubbard. Hubbard used approximately 15 codes at this time to conceal his operations, programs, and policies, which he disseminated worldwide. I personally delivered messages concerning Operation Snow White, Operation Freak Out, and other Scientology secret and illegal operations. I also filed these in Hubbard's personal filing cabinet..."

Re. the Tanja Burden Affidavit, Marty Rathbun, on 3 November 2010, on his blog, had this to say, "This is utter crap," while at the same time attributing any actions against Paulette Cooper to "suppressive squirreling" occurring behind Hubbard's back.

Schwimmel Puckel, in a 9 February 2011 post, had these observations:

"I quite sure that Hubbard directed this personally... But I can't prove it. But it was/is well known that even as Mary Sue and Jane Kember held those posts they did, nothing was done without Ron overlooking, approving and/or ordering it.

"I never met the man in person. I was in the Guardian's Office Europe 1979 to mid '81. Well, we had telexes clattering in from 'Ron' all the time. He was very much into anything the GO did, was my impression.. And we carefully cut the corner that said 'Ron' off of the slips before archiving. No document were to expose Ron as a leader or executive authority of anything anywhere."

Note: The above short video consists of clips from two '60 Minutes' programs, about fifteen years apart. The first - longer - segment - is from 1980; the latter - shorter - segment, concerning "C.A.N.," is from the mid 1990s.

To complete the series, here's a segment of the mid 1980s '60 Minutes' program with Heber Jentzsch and Earle Cooley:

Just noticed this, and it should be tacked on to this post, as the above video features Attorney Earle Cooley. Marty Rathbun writes about his friend, Earle Cooley, and the good old days:

Earle Cooley speaking at the 1986 'LRH Death Event':

A continuing saga of the bizarre.

I have to admit there was something that curled up inside me with repugnance over the little deaf mute child locked in the chain locker, which was my 'could never think of Ron as benign again' moment. I'm sure he had his good points, but none of them mattered to me because of the magnitude of that dealbreaker.

The systematic persecution of Paulette Cooper was another such moment, but that had more the effect of realising that this SYSTEM was the antithesis of everything I love about living in a liberal democracy and the ideas of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It was the monumental injustice and the plain nastiness of the worst of human nature laid bare. If ever there was the opposite of 'homo novis' it was this - the behaviour didn't even make the grade for regular homo saps!

And standing in the middle of it all - one woman against this hurricane from out of nowhere. And I know she paints the picture so beautifully of the anxiety and the agoraphobia and the alcohol and pills, but still that nobility of character shines through. I know she is just an ordinary person, but her strength and persistence were phenomenal. She just kept clawing her way back out of the pit, and in the end she was vindicated. She won, practically single-handed and alone. So I guess not only is she an example and an inspiration, but where would we be if she had given in; if she had allowed herself to be intimidated? I think that would have changed the whole face of the landscape we see today.

But it also rams home the reason that governments DO need to act to protect, not just their citizens, but their free way of life. This may be largely an illusion, but I would still rather live in a liberal democracy than any other system. If they are going to go around having 'war on terror' then they need to look to the extremists of their own religious creation as well.

I sit here in absolute tears. I just want to vomit. My god this is a process of really learning the truth -- the real truth. OMG.

"She's talking about suicide today -- isn't this great for Scientology."

Who are these people? What kind of sick twisted [email protected]#k does it take to make it into the GO/OSA posse?

These people could not have cared an ounce for the supposed ideals of Scientology and then be able to do something like this at the same time.

What really, truly, is the make up of an OSA operative?

Yes, my friend, this is the real Scientology.

A world where truth is called natter.

A world where exposing crimes against humanity is called entheta.

A world where honest, innocent people are targeted for prison, suicide or murder.

A world where grinning cult members stand and applaud evil.

But, what of the good part of the tech, hopeful scientologists ask?

Wrong question.

But then, they are reading questions from a prepared list, aren't they?

Scientologists are well prepared to handle everything, except reality.

Paulette,
Without your "Scandal" book that I found in a public library, I would not have had the good fortune to get out in the 70's. When I read Feral's life in SCN story on the ESMB, I realized just how fortunate I am that you wrote that book, that I stumbled upon it, and that I could have given a rat's ass that the COS forbade me to read it.
PAULETTE, THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AS A FAN FROM AFAR, AS PEOPLE WILL ONE DAY LOVE EMMA FOR CREATING THIS SITE. It just means the world that people help others through and out the $cilon maze.
