Yes, and the way these silicon valley behemoths all seem to be intertwined like a creepy spider's web is quite disturbing. However, if they want to gather information about the person who owns the ludicrous name I awarded myself on facebook, they can go right ahead.
My point was you had to give real information to open the account, at least you have to now. Regardless, Facebook has your IP address whch attaches to your true identity unless your entire identity is fake in government fileds.

My IP address is dynamic, meaning it changes every time I log onto the Internet. To determine who registered with Facebook using that particular IPA they would have to negotiate with my ISP, and TalkTalk are not obliged to divulge that kind of data to a third party unless it was the police, the state or some other body with a legal right to acquire that information.

ETA: As you can see, it's not as simple as one would have thought.

The political threads don't bother me because life has things I'm into and things I'm not. I know enough to just go where I'm into the topic rather than going there and trying to reform everyone into thinking like me. It just never works to try that. Some people never learn and wander into the middle of heated political exchanges and flip out. While I do often find the reasoning on display to be circular and relentless, I just believe in the live and let live doctrine of living and just wander off to where I find things more along my interest lines.
There are more than enough threads to where a person ought to be able to find something else that appeals to them instead of going where people are discussing Trump if that's what interests them.

I don't get targeted ads on facebook if I kill my web browser (firefox) and restart it before I log in to facebook.
This is the only way I know to delete browser history (where I think facebook, and other sites, get info).

For example, if I go to a website that sells computer server chases/racks and, after that, I
go to facebook I will see an ad of some company selling computer racks.
Without data in my browser history they don't know and I don't see a related ad.
This has been my experience.

Here is an Interesting article on this topic:

(Also, some people prefer DuckDuckGo instead of Google.)

Other than helping expose the fake Church of Scientology, I avoid discussions on politics and religion like the plague

This Trump character has the whole worlds knickers in a twist.
It’s sort of astounding in an annoying kind of way, lol.
Plus the rules of civility have left the building when it comes to political discourse on all fronts.
I hate seeing people so upset about it all.
But barring discussion seems the wrong direction for all involved.

Ditto.

Politics, religion are two topics that I prefer to stay away from when I am enjoying people for a dinner or a week-end.

When talking about international politics here, it soon or later comes aboutTrump..which we have many good reasons to hold in disgust

it is either an impediement to digest the good wine and beans
depressing, or it people takes on it are to the extreme, it will ruin the pleasure to meet.
(here again, there might be a cultural topic..dinner time for latin may be a religious activity in itself in reuniting with dear ones , and make it a time we share about each other)

Some topics hits people to their very core values...it becomes very emotional and this is what is happening with politic in these days, on one side or the other. Some of my american friends whispered me that it has become the same in many american houses , purposely to prevent a divorce.

Polarizing people often takes great pleasure in dividing people, groups, nations, creating quarrels, emotionnal responses... etc..I prefer to ignore these people and don't let them come in my house and trouble my waters... my home remains my peaceful safe space, the only one I can control and where I ca reunite the winning conditions to digest this beaufitul combination of wine and beans.... :)

Oh, my dear, have you seen the movie The Silence of the Lambs? That is where the phrase "with some fava beans and a nice chianti" originates.

Your home sounds charming BTW. :)
