I've been researching the Jewish mystics who came up with the Sephirot. This is not really part of ancient Judaism at all.... the Tree of Life. And I think it was developed in the days of higher alchemy in Spain. There is an order to things in this universe. If it were all chaos why would there be such things as Fibinacci curves etc? Likewise, the non-manifest order to things. As above...so below. In Jewish mysticism a hard look has been taken at delving into the heirarchies that pervade what we see. Non-manifest (Pleuroma) layers that keep other layers in their places. Like why the planets stay in the orbit they are resigned to. (temporarily) I think that is why science and astronomy were so much a part of those Chaldaen-type belief systems. And I just know I'm gonna squirrell this too.

If one is taking apart a nasty bureaucracy, or doing NOTS , or examining the stresses that lead up to having a disease...one is looking at the heirarchical or composite of causes involved.

I just reread the Kybalion (kabal). Now there's one Ron missed referring to in all his occult references.

Michael Tsarion gives an interesting talk on Masonry and Judism on the Red Ice creations web site. Its about 30 minutes into his talk and may interest you.

Several of the ideas associated with the Kabbalah are to be found in gnostic and esoteric texts known to be associated with the 2nd century and earlier. Especially interesting are the texts associated with Hermes Trismegistus and the way they parallel ideas within the sephirot.

One interpretation is that gnosticism represented the confluence of early esoteric jewish schools of mysticism with hellenistic philosophy. In that scenario esoteric jewish mysticism eventually led to the kabbalah of the middle ages. Esoteric schools were common during the Hellenistic period and jewish scholars were well acquainted with such.

I agree with the idea that gnosticsm was so influenced by Greek thought. Most all of the writings discovered in Egypt were in Greek simply because the language is so adept at describing varieties of forms and influences.

Now Hermes Trismegestus or Hermes Thrice Great is actually hard to research. Some say he was Thoth the Egyptian god. The Greeks had their version. It's kinda like the stories of Akenahton really being Moses or such.
I'm beginning to think maybe he was a myth like Zeus instead of an actual being like Imhotep.

The one thing I find in a lot of gnostic text like The Secret Book of John is that a misconception is what ties man down. There is no real division between the material world and the physical. It is an illusion to keep an infighting within the soul. A trick of the Demiurge. It like when LRH says the biggest mystery is that there is no mystery. The MEST universe is the THETA universe. hahahhah

With many schools of mysticism, legends grow up around the origins of the teachings. Witness scientology's attempts to equate Hubbard with Maitreya and christianity's plethora of jesus stories.

Whether or not there was a "Hermes Trismegistus", copies of documents outlining principle teachings attributed to those who considered themselves to be adherents exist. My prior comments were directed to them.

-snip-

It was Hubbard who attempted to equate Hubbard with the Maitreya.

Thankyou. I spent about a yr in 1986 trying to find out about the Emerald Tablets and Hermes. There was no internet back then and info scarce. I thought maybe everything was speculative. I'll go on a goose chase tracking down anything of interest to me. Last year I started researching the Testament of Solomon. Wowser! :omg: Have you seen that sucker???:goodluck: Solomon summons all the jins (demons, BT conflagratiions) lines them up in his court. Has a session with each one separately. Makes them tell their secret names by which they have to answer. Makes them all confess what their nemesis is. Uses the info to make them work as his slaves on his building projects. Now, I know King Solomon was real..but THIS! Sorry no link ...it comes up at Google. Boy, this TESTAMENT document goes on and on and on. :whipped:
