Oz ABC Four Corners on Scientology March 8

One point - I assume not including Senator Xenephon's ex-member witnesses was deliberate. What this documentary emphasises is they are not just a handful of people in Australia complaining, this is systematic abuse, corruption and lies worldwide.

Well, that's *one* assumption. Another might be that Marty Rathbun's media efforts are more successful than they should be and he's managed to position himself as the 'go-to Guy' in matters exiting Scientologists.

Hopefully not, since Marty Rathbun's agenda is very much his own and has little to do with actually stopping abuse by the 'Church' of Scientology.

For those of you who aren't Australians, here's the best part:

4 Corners is THE respected current affairs program here - what it says carries a lot of weight and it is believed by most who watch it. It will have been watched by the senators and/or their staff and they will take on board what was said.

Expect a whole new level of spotlight aimed at the cult here after last night - you can see the quality of the program and now the talkback jocks will start today talking about it.:D

Cult is finished here in Oz - it'll just take a while for the lingering smell to blow away.:happydance:

btw - lots of my extended family watched it too - when I get the feedback from them I'll post it to give you an idea of how the program was received by those here in Oz who know little about the cult.

Indeed, Four Corners (ABC) has the 'no mucking around' reputation of being a leading opinion maker in the field of Australian TV journalism. Having it's roots firmly entrenched as the tax payers funded program rather than as a commerical entity - its reputation as a public opinion leader is unrivaled in Australia. There isn't an Aussie worth his salt who doesn't respect and believe what is presented on the ABC News, Current Affairs pgms & Four Corners, even the Prime Minister and all politicians take what is said by the ABC very seriously. Four Corners or the ABC in general can make or break a career in a matter of minutes and has done so since the inception of TV in Australia.
As far as the Cof$ in Australia goes, wrong people to be exposed by, it will run and run through Aussie media now as all the other journalists try to play catch up with the ABC.
My bet is the game they (media) will play now is who can get criminal charges laid first. It'll snowball as a natural progression, similar to a feeding frenzy. In other words the Cof$ is now the game.
Wasn't there some tech on that - something to do with Power condition violation, where the game turns into getting you.
Good hunting guys - there's some juicy targets about.

Thus far I have watched only about 7 minutes of this program, and I want to savor every bit of it like one would do with a fine wine or premium cut steak.

Already I have been much impressed with the interview of Hana Eltringham Whitfield. I am glad that this segment was included in the program because it undercuts the notion that DM is responsible for all the crimes and abuses, and everything would be hunky dory if he were replaced.

That's about the best expose I have seen.

My favorite part: Hanna Whitfields look and response when told that Tommy Davis refers to the RPF as a religeous retreat.

She really relayed her experiences very well. Hats off to her.

That was Aussome. 4 Corners and Front page NY Times on the same day. Ouch! Seems the world has become quite annoyed with elron and his band of goons. :bigcry:

All I can say is the people interviewed here were simply amazing with their integrity and credibility. Tommy picked the wrong master as he could learn a thing or two - actually worth knowing - from this group. I pity him the day he wakes up if he ever does.

Congratulations to everyone involved.

Scientology has been hit by a fresh wave of allegations, likely to give added weight to calls for a Senate inquiry into the church.

Several Australians have spoken out for the first time about their experiences with the church, accusing it of forced abortions, holding slave labour camps and exploiting child workers.

Former rugby league player Joe Reaiche told ABC's Four Corners program on Monday of being coerced into spending $400,000 on spiritual books and being paid just $20 a week as an employee.

He also accused the organisation of preventing contact between him and his children after his expulsion in 2005.

It was an experience shared by Liz and James Anderson, who have not seen their eldest daughter - still with the church - for the past five years.

They're now considering launching a class action against the organisation to recoup a lost sum of $650,000 and to right alleged abuses.

Their second daughter Jordan once worked for 72 hours without sleep at age 15 while working as an administrator, and was once punished by being ordered to scrub out a Sydney dumpster, the Andersons say.

Also on Four Corners, there were repeated claims of forced abortions from various former devotees and of Scientology's slave labour punishment camps, all of which were rejected by a church spokesman.

The Senate is due to vote on a possible inquiry into Scientology this week.

I noticed that as well... that moment of silence spoke volumes.

And thank-you so much, Liz, James and Jordi. Putting your personal pain on the line like that must not have been easy. You did a brilliant job and I am sure the Aussie politicians will have to sit up and listen. May your actions prevent other families going through the same hell in the future. :bighug:

Thank you PR. It has been and still is an emotional time for the family and I too believe my girl will come back to Oz.

However, until Fiona is back on Oz soil I will not stop pursuing every possible avenue for her to be reunited with all her family.

I love her unconditionally.:bighug: and the church cannot take that away...
