Fair enough, but that wasn't a vanity license plate. It was a Bentley "placeholder" plate on the back of that car. .
It's been a law on the books that every vehicle has to display TWO (2) license plates, front and back. Police aggressively ticket anyone who doesn't have the front plate at Los Angeles Int'l airport, because the camera readers can't log in every car if the front one is not installed.
I have no recall of any time whatsoever that the rear place was not required by law. The only exception was when a car was newly purchased and there was a temp. dealer plate.
If I am mistaken in any of this, those more knowledgeable will hopefully bring me up to speed.
