Reverend Ken Hoden on marriage? Please. There were many observations that led to my finally walking out the door. One of the big ones was my observation of Lisa Hoden, Ken's wife.

Lisa was originally from Chicago and was a key factor in my involvement as she was the staff member that picked me up to bring me into the Chicago Org, for the very first time as I had no vehicle then. She soon after recruited me for staff and I joined.

I remember when Lisa joined the SO. I was super excited for her. She got to go to Gold to live her dream of being a singer, while on staff. Wow! That's what they always promise artists when they con them into joining staff but in this case it actually happened.

Lisa sang on one (maybe more) of the Scientology music CDs, State of Mind (that we as staff members listened to frequently as we did our mundane jobs).

Well, as a staff member all those years, I always envisioned Lisa in a state of purposeful bliss, living out that dream at the top of the organization, working close to Miscavige at International Management (same as Gold).

One of the last events that I attended before leaving for good was the IAS Membership Officers' Conference held at PAC. We would eat over at ASHO. I went into the canteen there and to my surprise I saw Lisa. She looked HORRIBLE.

First off, I immediately realized that she got demoted down to ASHO and working in the canteen is definitely a huge bump down the org board. I wondered what happened but I didn't ask her. I was still excited to see her so I approached her and we talked. She was a nervous wreck. She could barely maintain eye contact. She looked completely cowed, totally squashed as a human being. She had no confidence, fluttered around like she wanted to apologize to every one and every thing. It was actually quite difficult to communicate to her and uncomfortable.

At that time, of course, I didn't have all the data but since have learned that she and Ken were on the RPF at Int and I would guess were also in the Hole. Others would have to verify. I am sure she has LOTS of stories to tell. I don't even know if she is still married to Ken.

My point is, that no one should take advice on marriage from a guy who could not even confront how awful his own marital conditions were (are). His wife was in the worst shape ever. I felt terrible for her.

Lisa could have had a great life outside the SO (and Scientology). She was on her way. She had a beautiful voice and great life ahead of her. Instead she was ruined by this organization so, no thanks on that marriage advice.

Lisa's maiden name is Frau & she's from the River Forest, ILL area. There is only one person named 'Frau' who lives in River Forest. She's a psychotherapist in Chicago.

Didn't she marry someone called Frau? Francisco maybe? I worked with her for a couple of years at NWC/ITO late 80s before she went to Gold. She was a sup and similar Tech/Qual posts.

Here she is. There's probably a better picture of her somewhere, like in a pretty dress singing on stage with the Gold musicians, but this was easy to find.

Ken's previous wife, Andy Hoden, died while on staff.

I don't remember how she died.

Cancer, maybe?

Hubbard was married three times, marriage counseling didn't help him. Only an idiot would use Standard Tech to improve his/her spousal relationship.

Wait, so that's Lisa in that scary SO wanna-be Marine Corp recruitment poster? Unbelievable if so, because that woman looks like a cold, inhuman robot ready to stab someone for old L. Ron, not some lovely voiced singer who was (once) vibrant and full of of life (as described in Sally's comment).

It's kind of a famous poster, since I've seen it many times before. I've always wondered about the people they've featured in those 80's/90's SO posters and if they were actual members (apparently so in most cases) and if so who those members were and their stories. Wonder if DM uses actors for those types of promos today, since he's probably plagued with the same problems the old CoS movies have with poster boys/girls blowing and going all critic on his ass.

Robots not yet being either acceptable or clever enough, one solution to that problem would be to use animated characters, like, er . . .

Her maiden name was Basso. She was staff at L.A. Org for awhile. She had a brain aneurism, quite sudden and unexpected, dropped dead while at lunch, I was told.

Even then, you can have issues if your cover girl becomes a porn star, like Marilyn Chambers did.

There was this guy, well known thruout Scn,who did the Seminars on 'Marriage'.
What was not known was that his beautiful Asian wife got pregnant, and this marriage expert had her abort the pregnancy because he he told her that there was an evil being who had taken over the unborn baby.( they were not SO).

Hello all, I rarely if ever voice comments about my experiences in Scientology, but I noticed this thread mentioning Lisa Hoden and wish to bring a little clarity to it.

Lisa was part of a musical family well known in the Chicago area. The family name is Steele not Frau as some have mentioned. She was married to a Frau for a while before Ken Hoden. I met Lisa while she worked at her Father's recording studio during recording sessions for my then rock band Citizen circa 1979. I fell in Love with her and we worked together on many music projects. Her voice was glorious and her talent immense. Her entire family was gifted and I fell in Love with them as well. We married in a big fat Catholic ceremony on July 17th 1981 and she became Lisa Marier. Regrettably, I had introduced her to Scientology and she took to it with a fervor that was surprising even to me. Her family must despise me, and I can't blame them for that. In any event, she was staff at the Chicago org and was soon recruited out of our marriage with promises of glory singing at Golden Era Studios. Our marriage lasted an official 5 years but much of that time we were purposely separated by 2000 miles while she trained in Los Angeles. A common tale I am sure.

The recruitment was horribly rough and I was publicly humiliated on several occasions by Sea Org for voicing my opinion to that effect. Indeed Scientology breaks up families and destroys lives. But I hold to the premise that we all make our final decisions and Lisa made hers. I have been saddened upon reading of her travails and difficulties which are not out of the norm among others reported here and elsewhere. The Sea Org has had some fine people in it and I fondly recall many who were there to genuinely help others. Unfortunately, their goodness like the blood of a Dracula victim has been sapped by evil men and women. Lisa has been bitten again and again and her decency and good heart betrayed. She remains in my view a tragic life.

I have missed her and cried for months upon losing her to the Sea Org recruitment. I have born a terrible burden knowing that I played an integral part in her involvement and her family's resulting sorrow. I am indeed sorry for having provided the nudge to what became an overwhelming inertia toward the black hole in Hemet.

Within Lisa is an artist. I am not overly optimistic but hope she may one day join the ranks of those who have left and yet have a fulfilled happy life.

I voluntarily resigned my membership in the IAS in a detailed letter citing among other items, Lisa's horrid recruitment. That was 15 years ago. Like many, I found value in Scientology, but have never regretted my leaving the church. I have lost all friends and almost all contact with my 4 children who have one way or the other been forced to disconnect. I can attest to the fact that Disconnection Policy is alive and well in Scientology, but I doubt readers here will require it.

I wish Lisa well knowing that my wishes will have the effect of a water droplet on the Ocean. To all who knew Lisa, we have shared a unique connection to a lovely person. Perhaps she'll find her way. I for one certainly hope that occurs.

Best to all.

Guitarasauras - I worked with Lisa at NWC/ITO in the late 80s/early 90s. Thanks for the added background.

Are there any recordings online of her singing? I have heard very little of it.

Well what with no sleep, awful living conditions, non- existant hygiene, disgusting slop that passes as food and constant denigrating, it is no wonder that a person gets emptied-out of spirit..... $ciloonery robs people of their very identity by taking away any trace of spirit. Too sad, words run away or seem inadequate...truly:no:!
Just saying.

Wow. Thanks for the amazing flashback. Believe it or not, I still remember when Citizen was playing on MTV in my high school days.

Something similar that I saw, an event that got me the hell out - never went back after I finished the public Ethics course, the cheap one that is supposed to draw one in and capture the soul. I had previously done the public Comm & Tone Scale - or maybe the Tone Scale was part of the Ethics - I don't really recall the specifics. It was fun until I got to the Ethics course. Different from any kind of 'ethics' I knew and understood. I saw through it, :blah: - long story - but what I encountered and saw - that last time I EVER set foot in that sociopathic organization - I saw a spouse completely humiliate and degrade their MATE - their wedded spouse. I was so appalled, horrified by this, one of the final straws - on that final day. :omg: Sealed the deal. This is an awful place, an awful organization.

Then all I had to do was get the F out of the building. I was fearful they were going to stop me, kidnap me, hold me prisoner, like the spouse I saw in humiliation/degradation. He was locked up doing stuff to get back on course, or whatever . . . .

It was bad enough in this place, the things they were doing, the way it 'felt' in there, I was thinking, but for a spouse to do this to someone they supposedly LOVE, was such a shock to me - and squelched any doubts I might have had, thinking these were good people, in a bad 'sp' organization - NO - these were people, perhaps once good, now corrupted, who were getting off on degrading one another, stomping on the human spirit - no sympathy or empathy - or HELP here - get the F OUT.

The entire time I had a smile and dumb-look pasted on my face, so as not to give away what I was REALLY thinking. I was afraid they'd lock me up - if they knew. So I lied through my teeth, stupid smile pasted on face. Eventually, that stupid-smile-face glued on, after some heavy regging, and writing a check for $75 for another course - that I never intended to take - I got the F out. I saw the $75 as my 'train ticket' OUT. I was buying my train ticket, to safety. Cheap price, I thought - for what I was getting.

I got out, went home, and told my landlady about it, telling her that to me the co$ was the Anti-Christ - and asked her that if anything came in the mail for me from them, to write "deceased" on it and return to sender. Ha ha. That is another story too, not going to go into any of that here.

Years later this ex-landlady of mine came to see me about her grand-daughter who was in love with a nice young man who was a scno. This young man was telling this young woman, his girlfriend - they were very serious, discussing marriage - that scno accepts all faiths. She was a devout, conservative Christian, her faith having great meaning in her life.

I knew this, and I had read enough exes books by then to have confirmed my fears about co$/scno - so I reminded my friend/ex-landlady that I thought co$/scno is (part of what might be considered) the Anti-Christ. But, she said, He is very nice, responsible, sharing many same values, and has told XXX (my grand-daughter) that scno accepts all faiths - she is truly in love with this young man. Well, I said, Does her faith mean a lot to her (of course I knew it did). Yeah. Well, have her tell him THAT, and say that their children will be raised in her church - and see what happens - see how tolerant he/co$/scno is of that.

:evillaugh: heh heh heh

The next thing I know that young couple was broken up, and she went on to find another man who shared her faith - and married. She has a great life, kids, is very happy and successful. I have no idea what happened to the young scno man . . . I hope he got out. I hope to hell he got out. :nervous:

I remember back in the dark ages that Bruce & Bonnie Bishop did a talk on " Successful 2D's " or " Love & Marriage " or something or another one weekend in a park.

Lots of good information & my spouse & I both realized we had no business being married to one another.

However, Bruce said many things - completely not related to any scn tek- that made so much sense I use them to this day..

Like, I always feel like my spouse has been nicer to me & I always need to look for a way to play catch up.

And, treat your mate today in a way that will make them want to be with you tomorrow.

They were a really amazing & wonderful couple ...... heard they got declared.

Bruce Bishop wrote the most scathing letter of resignation from COS that I have ever seen. It was like an eval of outpoints written so clearly and couched in such language that anyone could see what was happening in the COS of the ealy 80s.
I kept that letter in my archives, and prolly will post it if I ever ever learn to scan my stuff.
I will have no discretionary time until May, and then I will put time in to learning to use my fooking machines.
