I just spent some time searching the HBO website looking for any mention of the upcoming show and could find nothing! I don't get it.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the world stopped going to Tom Cruise movies until Scientology changed its practices? Tom Cruise will only respond if he stops making money....however, being OT 6, 7, 8 (?)..they may insist that he defend them as DM will never go TV to defend himself.

I'm so excited about this, but I am sorry that Shelley Miscavige's disappearance isn't mentioned. Perhaps the DVD can include extras...this was the last big news story that the general public may recall - with Leah Remini. Anyway, AMAZING JOB. I hope the film leads to her being found or information surrounding her.....disappearance, death?

At 2:42 of this CNN interview (I posted below) the reporter asks about why there is no mention of Katie Holmes. I'm thinking that the answer from Alex Gibney would apply to your comment about Shelley as well.

I love your idea about including extras in the DVD.

If you live in LA or NY, you could go to the theatrical release if you absolutely need to see it before March...

I absolutely need to see it RIGHT NOW! LOL! Or at least a promo from HBO

(But not by going to LA or NY....yuck)

I love your idea about including extras in the DVD.
I think I've watched all of Gibney's work on DVD.

Client 9: Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer, the story of the disgraced New York Governor, was chock-full of extras, including a bunch of deleted scenes (too many) with most of the people interviewed for the film.

I expect the the Going Clear DVD will have many extras . . . hopefully just in time for Christmas gift giving.

Film School Rejects: Scientology Makes Me Want to See Anti-Scientology Movie

http://filmschoolrejects.com/opinions/scientology-making-want-see-anti-scientology-movie.php

* * * * * EXCERPT * * * * *

Then, we got an email from a spokesperson for Scientology, that sealed the deal on my wanting to see the anti-Scientology movie.

In the email, the representative:

Implored us not to be a “mouthpiece for Alex Gibney’s propaganda”

Chastised us for not first contacting the church for comment before posting a review of a movie

For the record, it’s not our policy to contact anyone before feeling double plus free to post our takes on movies we’ve seen (although Chris suggested we should get a statement from Ultron before reviewing Avengers 2). Also for the record, asking someone to post your official statement without vetting often goes better if you don’t open by accusing them of being propagandists by proxy.

I had just got through reading that article and it's amusing because this guy had zero interest in watching this movie before but the email they got from CoS is what closed him on wanting to see it.

CoS needs to have all their PR people clay demo 'Streisand effect'.

Yahoo TV: Church of Scientology responds to 'Going Clear,' thinks only men write reviews

https://tv.yahoo.com/news/church-scientology-responds-going-clear-193400071.html

The club (not gonna call it a church) sent out an email to just about every outlet that published a review of the film, reeling from not being consulted. Which is, of course, hilarious on its face. We'll be sure to reach out to Darth Plagueis before running any "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" thoughts in December.

Anyway, it's a predictable reaction, and the email itself — included below — is full of humorous clamoring. What's most notable to me is the "Dear Sirs" bit. Because, you know, what woman writes/edits a review? XENU FORBIDS IT.

I'm pretty sure, however powerful Gibney's film, we can go ahead and chalk it up as an also-ran in this year's Oscar race. But good on him and HBO for getting the perspective of these former members out into the world on the heels of Lawrence Wright's book.

Dear Sirs,

The above article concerning Going Clear, Alex Gibney's film, was posted without contacting the Church for comment. As a result, your article reflects the film which is filled with bald faced lies. I ask that you include a statement from the Church in your article. There is another side to the story which has to be told. Do not be the mouthpiece for Alex Gibney's propaganda.

CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY STATEMENT

The accusations made in the film are entirely false and alleged without ever asking the Church. As we stated in our New York Times ad on January 16, Alex Gibney's film is Rolling Stone/University of Virginia redux. The Church is committed to free speech. However, free speech is not a free pass to broadcast or publish false information. Despite repeated requests over three months, Mr. Gibney and HBO refused to provide the Church with any of the allegations in the film so it could respond. Had Mr. Gibney given us any of these allegations, he would have been told the facts. But Gibney refused to speak with any of the 25 Church representatives, former spouses and children of their sources who flew to New York to meet and provide him and HBO with firsthand knowledge regarding assertions made in Mr. Wright's book as that was all we had to guess from. Gibney's sources are the usual collection of obsessive, disgruntled former Church members kicked out as long as 30 years ago for malfeasance, who have a documented history of making up lies about the Church for money. We invite you to view our complete statement, correspondence and documented facts at freedommag.org/HBO.

Scientology Mounts Vicious New Campaign To Discredit HBO Enemies

Vocativ: Scientology Mounts Vicious New Campaign To Discredit HBO Enemies

http://www.vocativ.com/culture/tvmovies/scientology-mounts-vicious-new-smear-campaign-hbo-enemies/

The premiere of HBO's critical documentary "Going Clear" has put the church on the offensive with a fresh series of personal attacks against the former members who participated

Hell hath no fury like the Church of Scientology scorned. Following the premiere of an HBO documentary that depicts the church as a secretive, vindictive cult, the embattled institution responded with what amounts to more than 15,000 words of potentially defamatory mudslinging.

No sooner had HBO’s Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief come to a close at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday night than a torrent of ad hominem attacks against the eight ex-members who appeared in the film (as well as a handful of other vocal critics) began to appear in Freedom, a magazine published by the church. Assigning each target a crude nickname, the publication attempted to undercut their credibility through a series of character assassinations, which we’ve excerpted below. The outburst comes less than two weeks after the church took out a more level-headed full-page ad in The New York Times to denounce the film, which was adapted by filmmaker Alex Gibney from Lawrence Wright’s 2013 book.

Um , anything interesting going on lately ? :whistling:

Seriously , I went to look at Youtube for any videos about the movie and immediately started finding them , BUT to me the interesting thing is some have THOUSANDS of views - right away ! They will increase and some smart critics can NOW post videos to explain what Scientology is , and how attacking the folks in the movie is per policy i.e. follows the "scriptures" of the false "religion" er cult 100% .

YOU can offer the free educational service of "enlightening"the public on how the international Nazi occult Satanic terrorist mind control cult works with the examples of the people in the film and remind them of prior religious acts of faith - like Operation Snow White and the fun they have given earlier reporters and critics . See , raising the "awareness level" of the fact that they MUST attack the attacker and can lie , cheat , steal , manufacture evidence and ruin utterly as they dispose of quietly and without sorrow critics will be only confirmed by David Miscavige's efforts to do just that .

The confusion generated by two sides telling exactly opposite stories can be eradicated as mountains of evidence showing why the cult lies are revealed . The cult's doctrine by the "founder'" and a small sampling of their crimes will make the " alter-is" vanish . Hubbard needed lies to make the fraud persist , well so does DM .

This can prompt an increase in public curiosity that , if handled correctly , can result in more dissemination about Scientology than South Park or Anonymous . The hard part is not getting any info out - it is that Scientology is SO truly evil and extreme most people cannot fathom a cult with tens of thousands of members based on making pseudo clones of a psychopathic/sociopathic traumatizing narcissist via mind control .

The elements are all beyond belief - the degree of Hubbard's remorseless evil ( and DM's) , the extent of the mind control , the crimes of the organization , the giant fraud of the technology , the totalitarian nature of the organization and its origins in hypnotism , Nazism ,perverted psychology and the occult .

But , bit by bit it can be exposed starting with the PR tactics because those are designed to fool people via contradiction into inaction ( a win for the cult ) or going to the cult for answers ( a win for the cult ) . The cult wants good people to remain neutral OR join them .

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.
Albert Einstein

In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
Martin Luther King Jr.

See , these guys figured out sociopaths rely on the majority safely staying out of conflicts , as sociopaths are in theory a tiny minority of the population and need to be unrestrained to do harm ; it is a simple numbers game . They must fool most folks into leaving them alone , certainly until they get power to control and kill backed by others . That is the purpose of PR in Scientology to protect and hide evil and slowly fool good people into supporting evil more and more .

The story the film can tell may be true but it is a small , small part of the story that needs to be told . Now if only there were some folks who had a good idea what Scientology really is I could ask to help fill the vacuum ...:coolwink:
