Tom Ciancio

Rex Fowler is an OT-8 Scilon software businessman in Colorado, USA who flipped out and killed his employee Tom Ciancio on 30 December 2009.

Let's remeber Rex killed his (non-scilon) employee to cover up embezzling his own company in order to pay for his CofS courses.

That's not accurate. There is no evidence that Rex did OT VIII. He had repeated OT VII. And the police report, based on interviews & forensics concluded that Ciancio's murder was a well-thought out plan before Ciancio walked through the front door that day.

What Rex not planned was being a lousy shot when he tried to end his life. It's hard to accuse Rex of embezzling company funds when he was sole owner of the company.

Correction

Thanks for the correction Smurf!
I was trying to express the "gist" of why Rex is on trial.

For anyone who is considering attending the trial

You are likely already aware of this but one of the tactics that the Church of Scientology has used in the past, being the slimy organization that it is, is to bring an overwhelming amount of bodies to the courtroom in order to fill the seats and not allow those who may have "other intention" to attend. They will herd in the cattle of the highest awareness levels first (OTVIII comps) and then OT sevens who's awareness levels are right up there with ol Rex's himself, and so on, and so on, down the line.
The reason for wanting to place the highest level OTs in there first is so that they can sit there and mentally put the whammy on all of the mere humanoids in the room and "cause" a favorable outcome.
But the main reason is to deny attendance to WOGs, probably to avoid embarrasment as much as counter-intention.

I am mentioning this to remind you that you may have to get there real early to get a seat. Scientologists may even be camping out on the steps overnight like Lady Gaga tickets were going on sale or something. I don't know.

I'm going to post this to a couple of other forums as well.

Good luck.

I'm not so sure that the CofS will want too many currently active scientologists to hear what's going to come out in this courtroom.

OSAbots, sure! High-level scios who probably have their own "doubts and reservations", not so much.

Not likely. The cult played this ploy in the past when "sacred material" from the cult was being discussed in trial. That is not the case here. Plus, the cult would have a difficult time keeping the media out anyway.

I suspect most church members are not even aware of Rex Fowler's trial or why he's in jail. At protests here in Los Angeles, while walking up & down L. Ron Hubbard Way with a photo of Rex and announcing he's on trial for murder, many a staff member called me a liar & didn't believe Rex was in jail.

Yarr. Most of those culties will probably never even hear of Rex until they leave the cult and join The Holy Internet.

Ageed. I've yet to meet an on-lines scientologist who knew anything about the Rex Fowler story.

Excellent points. I hope you're right and I have a feeling that you all are. Still it may be a good idea to get there a little early in case CoS comes up with some other underhanded way to dominate the seating.

Agreed. Plus, we'd love to read first-hand reports on the proceedings!

I second this. It is a major button. I would be surprised they would want any Scientologists in court. Seeing an OTVII not at cause with disfiguring injuries would not be good.

Fowler is an asshole but is there any chance that he did it in self-defense?

Is he having a public defender or a private attorney?

How about his wife? Is she still on the side of her husband?

Do you know if his company was incorporated or a Colorado LLC?

As a Colorado LLC, the reporting of profit/loss is very flexible since no one in Colorado actually audits the Colorado LLCs. It is easy for the reporting party to fabricate the income statements, since state auditing is very, very, minimal; and IRS auditing is almost nonexistent except for reporting of the incomes and Federal deductions of the employees to the Feds.

OTOH, if his company was incorporated, the financials are much more detailed and examined by IRS. Even if he "embezzled", as long as he reported (or fabricated) gross profit, as long as his IRS statements made sense, he would likely not have been audited by the IRS AS LONG AS HE REPORTED EMPLOYEE INCOME AND DEDUCTIONS APPROPRIATELY. ...or if the employees were paid in cash and he fabricated either gross income or employee income. 1099s are ripe for fraud if balanced against expenses.

I think the police got a great understanding of the facts which show Rex intended to kill Tom Ciancio & kill himself. Ciancio was shot from behind and a bullet also struck Fowler's checkbook sitting on the table. After shooting himself through the chin, he ran outside. When he saw the police in the parking lot (who initially thought he was the victim), Rex tried to run back inside his office away from them. They had to restrain him.

Rex has a public defender. His wife Janet remains in the cult and lives in their Broomfield, Colorado home. Their adopted kids, Angela & Alex, live with her.

For the life of me, I do not understand why this is going to trial.

Good point. It would be far better for the cult to persuade Fowler to plead guilty and keep likely media coverage and exposure to wog justice to a minimum.
