Thanks fer dat, Jamie is awesome, though I think he'd rather put the culty crap behind him, and would rather it was not his career mainstay, it is nice he does speak out. Strikes me as a very nice and decent soul indeed.

Scientology Scandals, Cover Ups & Threats with Tony Ortega & Paulette Cooper

"Scientology documentary GOING CLEAR source Tony Ortega and journalist Paulette Cooper expose the harassment and spying campaign that the Church of Scientology waged on Cooper following the publication of her 1971 book, THE SCANDAL OF SCIENTOLOGY. Ortega, whose recent book about Cooper and Scientology, THE UNBREAKABLE MISS LOVELY details the frame up and years-long persecution of her by L. Ron Hubbard and members of the church, lays out more of the mountain of dirt on the organization in this uncensored Media Mayhem interview, hosted by Allison Hope Weiner."

By Ron's first wife, Polly Morton at the time of the interview:

"She also makes a curious allegation — that the same year she met Hubbard, he “had trouble with the Federal authorities in 1932 for taking some bonded whiskey.”

From Wikipedia:

"The Twenty-first Amendment (Amendment XXI) to the United States Constitution repealed the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which had mandated nationwide Prohibition on alcohol on January 17, 1920. The Twenty-first Amendment was ratified on December 5, 1933."

"Ron the rum runner?" I wonder where he "took it" from?

I will say this: My late beloved father was born in 1916. He would have been 18 in 1932. He told me he was one of very few guys who had their own car right after he graduated from high school in a small Western Pennsylvania town. He admitted to "running moonshine" a few times - until his father found out what he was doing. And told him he would have no car if he ever did it again.

"Taking" bonded liquor would have been something different, though. I think Canada was the only place you could get it at the time. Or maybe in some other country.

Just to add to the knowledge about where there was liquor during Prohibition, an article I read said that pharmacies could legally dispense liquor "for medicinal purposes" and that Jewish rabbis could keep wine used in religious services. The article also said that "kits" for making home made wine were sold legally.

Scientology - Dirty Internet Tricks by Chris Shelton

"A response to recent internet cyber attacks by the Office of Special Affairs on Scientology critics. OSA is the covert operations arm of the Church of Scientology, tasked with handling legal affairs and dealing with critics of Scientology. L. Ron Hubbard's policies demand retribution and ruination of anyone who dares to speak out against Scientology."

My grandfather was a family physician during Prohibition and was thus allowed to have alcohol. Of course his bathtub gin operation wasn't exactly what they meant.
