SCIENTOLOGY - BREAKING THE HIDDEN TIES THAT BIND

Scientology – Breaking the hidden ties that bind

Many who have walked away from the Church of Scientology still feel emotionally and mentally “captive” – not entirely free. This is to be expected since in most cases the person was for many years constantly and intensely being oriented in terms of the philosophy and “truths” of LRH. Inevitably the individual’s worldview became that of the quintessential Scientologist.

The issue here is not whether LRH’s work has merit or not. Thousands will attest that Scientology changed their lives for the better. The issue here is; to what extent did the individual surrender his or her most precious quality; that of creation, when buying into the “creation” of LRH. Here is the thing; theta – consciousness – is synonymous with creation. That’s what we all do all the time even in our sleep. Even the time in which we create is our creation.

However, isn’t it so that Scientologists invariably adopt a mindset of; “Why bother to explore the nature of existence or “create” new realities – new “truths” – when LRH has covered it all already? Why not simply walk across “The Bridge” to total freedom already provided?

This is not to say that those still in or out of the church have stopped creating all together, no one ever does. Currently, members of the C of S, for instance, are involved in creating Ideal Orgs, “clearing the planet” and fighting SP’s, all of which is a form of creation.

Long story short: There is no more fundamental or vital an area of creation than that of self creation – constant renewal of who we are. Initially following a path provided by another can work and may even make sense. But eventually the surrender of self creation to another entity will become a liability in a world of constant change. Eventually OT 8’s or OT 10.s etc will discover that there is something missing and that something will be their sense of self creation.

And the point is? Many ex scientologist’s worldview are still shaped by the creations of LRH. They have been unable to let go of stable data acquired while so intensely oriented in terms of scientology tech and admin. The problem is not the material itself, some of it is very good and capable of adding value to many spheres of human endeavor. The problem is when the quintessential scientologist’s mindset blocks looking at anything which is not LRH’s creation. This is guaranteed to put one out of touch in an ever changing world – it is a form of disconnection from “what is”.

The obvious answer to breaking the hidden ties which keep people captive to another’s creation is a shift in mindset. It is with this in mind that I am posting SIMPLE ANSWERS TO UNIVERSAL QUESTIONS. It offers a different angle in perspective on how things work. The idea is not to get buy in into the answers given to the questions posed, but to bring about a shift in mindset.

SIMPLE ANSWERS TO UNIVERSAL QUESTIONS.

The 101 questions posted here probably cover every aspect of existence. Many are frequently asked questions. Some have been the focus of science, philosophy and metaphysics for centuries. So, for those with inquiring minds curious enough to look at existence from a different angle look at the list of questions below.

If you feel so inclined select one question at a time and simply request an answer from Joe

Preamble to the 101 questions and answers

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”. (Albert Einstein)

More often than not when the nature of reality, consciousness, the mind and the formation of the universe are described it is in terms of specialized vocabularies – the esoteric language of a particular teaching, doctrine or belief system. The intention here is to accommodate inquiring minds, regardless of background and orientation. Though the language used is kept as simple as possible it does not mean that the answers provided here to some profound questions are any less valid than those given by experts. Complexity does not determine the validity of an answer. On the contrary, in some cases it may be indicative of confusion.

The mindset factor

Whatever our questions and answers about the universe, existence or the meaning of life; they will invariably reflect the prevailing mindset – the bias – of the scientist, philosopher or mystic asking and answering the question. The idea that our observations may be subjected to a hidden personal frame of reference or paradigm is generally not factored into our quest for answers.

It may be argued that what distinguishes the scientific approach from all the rest is that by “proving” its observations and conclusions science eliminates mindset bias. However, the flaws in this assumption become glaringly obvious once the mindset factor is better understood. Nothing is as it seems – nothing. What we see – the “truth” we live by – is invariably a mindset construct. The point is; a shift in mindset coincides with a shift in truths – truths on which depends our orientation in life. History adequately confirms that today’s truths can not be relied on to be tomorrow’s truths.

The premise here is that the value and validity of answers can not necessarily be determined by the “proof” on which they are based. In other words, since our orientation in an ever changing world is destined to change, today’s proof is unlikely to be tomorrow’s proof. The real value and validity of answers depend on the extent to which they put us in touch and are relevant in ever changing circumstances – an ever changing world. This is what a functional mindset is – an in touch mindset.

Choices and decisions emanating from a functional mindset are optimum not because they are based on what is proven but because they keep us in touch. A dysfunctional mindset puts us out of touch with prevailing circumstances. It is inclined to hold onto truths which have passed their use by date.

Several questions and answers on the list address the mindset factor in depth. Three conclusions in particular are worth mentioning up front.

• Mindset determines how we look at our world and consequently how we see it. How we see our world determines how we experience it which in turn determines our responses and behavior.

• Whatever it is we are looking at it is possible to change our perspective and see it differently, opening the door to a different reality – different experiences and consequently different responses. .

• Mindset is value-centric. Nonetheless, whatever our core values may be, the core “core” value is the self. Our sense of self is the ultimate measure in terms of which we determine what is real – what is true. In the end, the extent of being in touch – our quality of life – is determined by how the self sees and experiences life.

Mastering mindset; understanding its role in determining our orientation and realizing its function as the shaper of the “reality” we perceive and experience, is the key to moving from a worm’s eye view of existence to a bird’s eye view. It is the key to awakening the sage present in all of us and finding answers to seemingly unanswerable questions.

In this series of questions and answers it’s not about arriving at the “ultimate truth” – it’s not about finding Nirvana, Heaven, total freedom or the unifying principle of everything. The feasibility of such a quest is questionable, particularly in light of the mindset factor. Our primary inclination is self-expression – to give expression to the self we believe we are. We succeed in this to the extent that mindset is functional – to the extent that we are in touch and optimally oriented within the context of our life experience.

A functional mindset – being maximally in touch – raises the probability of making the right choices and decisions in an ever changing world. Not to mention the increased possibility of synchronicity – moments in which the laws of nature seem to be suspended in our favor.

This list of questions and answers about existence and related mysteries are, for the sake of convenience, divided into four categories.

1. The Anatomy of Mindset. What is mindset really?

2. The Nature of Consciousness. Consciousness – the ultimate omnipresence.

3. Changing Conditions. Change your mind, change your world.

4. The Model Aligning the dynamics of human endeavor.

SAMPLE QUESTION AND ANSWER

Q 17: WHAT IS PROBABLY THE MOST EMPOWERING LIFE SKILL?

The truth which defines our world and by which we live, regardless of how it may seem, is determined by the “angle” of our perspective and not by the “actual facts” of existence.

Reality (truth) from the human perspective is contextual and it is mindset which determines context. To understand the Anatomy of Mindset is to know the origin of our truth on which is based our beliefs and assumptions – our choices and actions – our feelings and motivation.

Feeling down, depressed, afraid, confused, bored, content, confident, ecstatic or amorous? In each case how you feel emanates from what your truth is at the moment. As implied by the old adage; the glass is seen as either half full or half empty. How the glass is seen – how anything in existence is seen – is determined by the prevailing mindset. Not only does beauty lie in the eye of the beholder, but so does the meaning, relevance and value of it all.

Changing our mind changes our orientation – our perspective, and consequently also our truth and life experience. Even a minor shift in mindset can change how we see and consequently how we experience life. Our sense of self can be changed from that of a victim of circumstances to an empowered participant in the game of life by a simple shift in perspective. A close look at the Anatomy of Mindset – the role of mindset in shaping our reality – leaves one in little doubt that achieving mastery over mindset – mastery over perceptions – the ability to change one’s mind at will, must qualify as the most empowering life skill.
