Scientology Celebration - "Boom Boom Kapow - Oops, My Bad!" Day

As most folks here @ ESMB know, tomorrow is the 71st anniversary of an historically significant event. :wink2:

Relevant excerpt:

Following its return to Astoria, the USS PC-815 was ordered to escort a new aircraft carrier to San Diego, where the subchaser was to participate in exercises.[SUP][48][/SUP] On June 28, Hubbard ordered his crew to fire four shells from the ship's 3-inch gun and a number of rifle and pistol shots in the direction of the Coronado Islands, off which the ship anchored for the night. He did not realize that the islands belonged to Mexico, an ally, nor that he had taken the USS PC-815 into Mexican territorial waters.[SUP][49][/SUP] The islands were garrisoned by Mexican Navy personnel during the war.[SUP][50][/SUP] The Mexican government complained and two days later, Hubbard found himself before a naval Board of Investigation in San Diego. He was found to have disregarded orders by carrying out an unsanctioned gunnery practice and violating Mexican waters. He was reprimanded and removed from command, effective July 7.[SUP][49][/SUP] Rear Admiral Frank A. Braisted commented, in a fitness report written shortly after the Coronado incident, that he "consider[ed] this officer lacking in the essential qualities of judgment, leadership and cooperation. He acts without forethought as to probable results. He is believed to have been sincere in his efforts to make his ship efficient and ready. Not considered qualified for command or promotion at this time. Recommend duty on a large vessel where he can be properly supervised."[SUP][51][/SUP]

June 28 = "Boom Boom Kapow - Oops, My Bad!" Day

I'm not sure if this comports with how current Co$ adherents - or even ex-members of Co$ - celebrate Boom Boom Kapow - Oops, My Bad! Day, but here @ Chez JB, we're ready to mark the occasion of hubbard's 1943 documented act of derring-do-oh-so-wrong with:

19 super-soaker water pistols
80 water balloons
15 cans of Silly String
10 slingshots with 50+ koosh balls

45+ Friends and family are due to arrive by 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, so I expect we'll commence firing at each other within the first half-hour or so.
Later in the day, we'll be accosting random people in/around the neighborhood, too, as a way to educate others about hubbard's 'heroism'.

Of course, on July 7, 2014, 71 years will have passed since hubbard was officially removed from command -- The Day Of Comeuppance-ness -- an opportunity to host another backyard barbecue (yay!) but I'm not sure if guests will agree to be waterboarded. *fingers crossed*

Happy Boom Boom Kapow - Oops, My Bad! Day to each & all here @ ESMB.

How will you celebrate tomorrow and July 7th?

Imprisoned in an org, watching a Boom Boom Kapow Too Loud Too Many Run On Sentences video. <sigh> Your party sounds as if it will be much more fun. Next year, could you send us an invite early and then I'll have a good excuse to decline a trip to the org??

The org? Ick! Your stamina is remarkable.

Henceforth, consider yourself invited to every party @ Chez JB.

Note: All 'rookie' guests have to come early to help fill-up the water balloons. <----That's probably the only 'house rule' I have. #RulesR4Fools

Do people really mark their calender for that day?

Well, yes, but it's Maiden Voyage events through July. However, they don't actually mark their calendars or send out info until about 10 days in advance. Pretty sure I can make JB's party next year. Even if I do have to fill water balloons.

Um, probably not.
But maybe folks will consider doing so in future?

I'd been wracking my noggin trying to find a meaningful date that ex-scientology members could celebrate - since everyone's date of departure/defection is different - and a dear friend suggested the hubbard-fires-on-Mexico incident might fit the bill.

Would it be better to celebrate:

the day of the attack (June 28);
the day he was relieved of command (July 7); or,
the whole 10-day period between June 28 and July 7. <--- I don't get a vote, but that's the one I'd pick, lol.

Tomorrow's party is simply an excuse to laugh/sing/dance/eat/etc with friends & family - all 'never-ins' like myself - but most are up-to-speed with the current doings of Co$ & narconon, so they understand why there will be more water balloons than usual.

I have an email in my inbox for org events this weekend and every weekend through July, with the exception of the weekend of the 4th. (Probably non US peeps don't get a break that weekend, though.) I am so voting for the whole 10 days. Put me down for beer and balloons.

All funnies aside, I still find it very strange that Hubbubb subscribed to all things military, sailing and such - and especially since his reputation there within was so less than mediocre. I can only guess that it's some result of his total denial and in general being pissed off at the navy, that he tried to 'make it his own thing' out of it.

I did at one time think that it made sense - but this was way before I found out about his actual performance records while on duty: which is totally Monty Python for sure.

Again: whether to laugh or cry? I cry for those idiots still in, and yet laugh about it all, as if it happened many lifetimes ago -but still too fresh in memory to completely laugh away at though...

Thanks for thread - it is well worth the laugh!

Glad you're enjoying it, Techless, and thank you for commenting. :)

Any average male who'd been relieved of command during WW2 would have been emotionally devastated.
Shame, when it's deep enough, can turn to rage or other extreme emotion in average people.
That hubbard was already an egotist prior to military service makes me think his shame turned very, very quickly and morphed into other negative emotions...to their extreme limits.
To me, it helps explain the emotional source of his uncommon drive to dominate people and the depth of his cruelty.

As for laughing & crying -- yes! I'm a 'never-in' but this is one area I think we're all on equal footing, so to speak.

This is why I'd really like to have 1 day (or 10 days) set aside out of the year for all ex-Co$ members to celebrate without sadness/guilt/etc. of any kind.
If there's a date that better commemorates any of hubbard's spectacular failures, then I'm happy to support it instead.

As I understand it, there are no holidays in Co$.
There are competitive stat-based games and there are annual/quarterly/monthly fundraisers, but that's about it.
As ex-members of Co$, it seems fair (and overdue) that an annual holiday should be enjoyed.
Co$ didn't celebrate you, so why not celebrate yourselfves, ESMBers?

And, next year, if you're celebrating on June 28, and a neighbor stops by and asks why you're having the party, won't it be fun to tell him/her your commemorating the day in 1943 when hubbard fired weapons on Mexico and, as a result, was relieved of command - during wartime!
Yep, I think your neighbor's going to benefit from this information.

Heard a song @ the party that I thought former members of Co$ might appreciate.

I'll put the video here, but to read the lyrics - and they're worth it - click on the little YouTube logo which will redirect to the YT site.
