Scientology & Children: What is a Child Audit, Process and Security Check? Discussion

With all the press about Leah Remini's departure from the cult focusing on her fear for her daughter (age 9) starting auditing and other indoctrination I thought we might get a conversation started about current day Scientology and children practices. People can all too easily explain away the past church abuses of children as the distant past, not that they should, without acknowledging that this is a very serious ingrained part of the entire Scientology culture.

Wogs need to better understand how children TODAY are taught and raised in Scientology..I believe this is a key issue to bringing about more awareness of the cult and all of their criminal activites. To get the rest of the world to look twice at the whole picture a hot button such as child abuse will make people look deeper. And once people look deeper they will find out the rest.

My first question is what exactly is done when a child is audited? I'm not referring to the Sec Check pasted in post #2 below. I just want to understand what the typical dialog would be when auditing a child. Or is a child ONLY asked the Sec Check questions in all auditing sessions? From reading the interview pasted below, I surmise that Sec Checks are used when a child is sick or "acting up" but what goes down between the auditor and child when a child is healthy?

Over at Mace Kingsley, the have something called Child Processing – Life Repair. Might anyone know what that looks like? Are the kids on a meter? What questions are they asked? I'm looking to have the "picture painted" as if I'm reading a story or was lucky enough to have a session recorded on video to watch. Funny how they name the page linked below "what are we doing" but they don't actually say what they are doing when they get a kid in the room for the auditing session!

So what then can you possibly audit with an infant, baby or child? There are many, many processes that help a being get oriented to the physical universe and become in better control of his body and environment. The results of this have been a happier child, who grows well with little illness and accidents. htt p://macekingsley.com/when-auditing-children-what-are-we-doing/

I got a chance to ask some questions of Scientology Auditor Jesse Riendeau, a fellow Maine native and a specialist in the auditing of children. (See this video for a visual description of what auditing is and how it works.)

He works for Mace-Kingsley Family Center, a facility with over 30 years of experience applying Scientology to children and the betterment of families & relationships.

ScientologyParent: From a parent’s perspective, what gains do have you seen children getting from auditing?

Jesse: Having audited hundreds of children, including my own, I have seen all sorts of wins and gains. They vary from kid to kid, but generally what we see happening with a child over the course of their Introductory Auditing is an increase in their ability to control their environment and think for themselves.

In other words, we get a big resurgence in their self-determinism. This oftentimes immediately handles underlying factors that contribute to what some parents may think of as “behavior problems”.

You see, as an auditor, I am in no way focused on a child’s aberrations and “odd behaviors”. That’s psychiatry. In Scientology, the accent is on ability. When you increase a child’s native abilities, the rest just falls into place.

ScientologyParent: What do you like most about auditing children?

Jesse: Auditing children on a routine basis when they are young, brings them to the understanding, for themselves, that they can better themselves, and that Scientology works for them personally and can help them.

And Kids are full of life and energy and so are their sessions! This is one of the greatest aspects to auditing kids.

ScientologyParent: You have an auditing room specifically designed for children. Tell me about that! What special features does it have that you’ve found useful?

Jesse: The whole idea behind this room was to create a space that small children can easily confront as well as making everything in the room accessible to them.

Over the years, I’ve observed that auditing a child in an adult-sized room can be very unreal to them and it made my job as an auditor a bit more challenging. This is a very special auditing room in that the kids want to spend as much time in it as they can.

Since almost every auditing process that LRH designed for children is an “objective” type process (meaning one that deals with the person’s communication with the physical environment around them, as opposed to a subjective process where the person inspects thoughts, concepts or mental pictures), having a space that is interesting and playful enough to capture their attention and willingness to participate seemed logical. Everything in the room is child sized, even the chair used to deliver Scientology Assists.

Child sessions are lively, playful and fun because as a child auditor, I have to communicate at their reality or I lose their interest and willingness.

ScientologyParent: I’m sure you’re filled with cute stories from auditing little kids. Have one you’d like to share?

Jesse: There was one little girl I audited who was about three or four years old, whose parents had traveled from out of the country to receive auditing at the Church here in Clearwater. Unfortunately, their little girl had arrived sick with a temperature and so the parents were stuck in their hotel room tending to a sick child rather than going in session themselves.

I had already established great ARC* with this little girl and she was asking for me. The parents called Mace-Kingsley and requested that I come over to the hotel at Flag as they were having a difficult time handling her. I went over to their room, we played for a few minutes and then I ran a few basic Scientology assist processes with her. She popped right out of whatever illness that had turned on, got up and said, “Jesse look what I can do!” and started to show me her cartwheels around the room. That was a good spot to end the session.

She came to Mace-Kingsley for several more sessions that day and as a result, the parents got to go in session as well. I could tell scores of stories like this.

ScientologyParent: How have you been able to apply your skills as an auditor of children to your role as a parent?

My older son is four and my younger son is 6 months old. There is literally no end to the applicability of this Tech. LRH wrote and lectured extensively on the subject of raising children. As a child auditor at Mace-Kingsley Family Center, I have been required to become well-versed in this data. Whether I’m in session with a pc or at home with my own two kids, the same principals apply.

When you observe children, you can see that they are beaming with energy, creativity and imagination. But they are also very close to their banks in the sense that they can become keyed-in easily. Their reach can get cut and the adult world can be quite mysterious from their viewpoint.

It’s important as a parent to recognize this, handle it when it happens and prevent it where possible. In other words, I always try to enable my kids to think for themselves and I do all I can to foster their self-determinism.

Oftentimes my four year old will ask me lots of questions. I always try to get him to think about what the answer would be, for him, rather than presenting myself as an authority and the source of all answers. For example: “Dad, why can’t I play in the street?” Response (with no invalidation): “Why do you think it’s not okay to play in the street?” His answer (slight pause while he ponders this): “Umm, because a big car could go fast and squish me and that would hurt!” Me: “Okay. Sounds good, Hayden!”

The end result to this is that he has now come up with his own answer and established a new rule for himself. I didn’t have to do a thing. He got it on his own!

It’s vital to keep my Auditor’s Code in, especially when it comes to invalidation and evaluation. Children need to know that they are valuable and that their thoughts and ideas are valid and even helpful!

Being an auditor who has also been hatted to specialize in child auditing has made my job as a parent that much easier. I can see the products of raising my kids with Scientology and I get a lot of pleasure watching the Tech work and seeing them make gains with it.

99 questions to audit children

So when a child is having a meltdown, hissy fit or is just cranky the Scientology answer to calm them down is to do a Sec Check?

More from the child [STRIKE]experts[/STRIKE] abusers at Mace Kingsley:
Occasionally, parents bring children in for auditing when there is a problem; the child isn’t sleeping or they’re sick, have behavior problems, an ethics situation, etc. While that is certainly a commendable action and we can absolutely handle those things with the tech, we are basically just handling the out-rudiments of the case (ethics, body rudiments, ARC breaks, etc.).

The following questions are pasted from this article by Tony Ortega: http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runni..._scientology_sec_checking_suri_tom_cruise.php
It's disturbing stuff, especially when you picture a child of Suri's age holding the sensors of an e-meter, being interrogated by an adult determined to have her confess her transgressions.

I asked Headley what a child would have to do in order to be subjected to this treatment.
"A tantrum. Or really, anything non-optimum," he said.

Re: Scientology & Children: What is a Child Audit, Process and Security Check? Discus

Miss Wog,

I can give you some information from the 90's and 2000's. I was trained in GAT I and I was a Case Supervisor, which included for children. I cannot say anything about auditing past 2004, as that was when I left.

(That quotation about Mace Kingsley honestly appears to be glorified babysitting to me)

The first thing is, for most auditing, one does interviews and tests, such as the OCA (Oxford Capacity Analysis). These were not done on children. The age limit for OCA is 10 years old. Or it was. Who knows now-a-days.

In general, the auditor would do some simple questions for the child, which could be done metered or not. If it is possible, they prefer metered interview. They will be asked such questions as "how are you doing?", "how are things at home with your family", "Is there any area that you are having trouble with", "Is there anything you would like help with", "Is there anything you would like to tell the Case Supervisor?"

For younger children, such as under 9 or 10, most auditing would not be done on the meter. If the child is in general, pretty calm, most of the sessions would be started with "own time", which is basically when the child can do what they want (with auditor attending) for a specific amount of time. This is a subtle acclimation to learning control. That is to teach the child the start and stop of doing things. Usually own time was 1/2 hour. And when it was over, they would continue with counseling sessions.

Pretty much every session would be started with that for the younger child. Then they would go onto Introductory auditing actions, just like an adult, but they would be tailored to address things that the child wanted to address. Normal rudiments (Do you have an ARC Break, Do you have a Present Time Problem, and Has a Withhold been missed?) would be simplified to: "Is there anything upsetting you?", "Are you worried about anything?" and "Is there something you are not saying?".

Other auditing steps would be simple objective processes "Give me that hand" over and over and over. This one is used often on unruly children. They may kick, fight, refuse to do it, cry, whatever. The auditor will be closer to the door, and is to use their TR's to keep the child in the room and in session and following the commands. If it "turns on" a reaction, the auditor must continue to do the process until that reaction turns off, be it a pain, anger, grief, soreness, anxiety, etc. Once the child is happy again, the session would be ended and another done on another day.

For the most part child auditing is supposed to be light.

----------

And here we get into the odd stuff:

Children are believed to be reincarnated. In Scn, it is believed that the child has just been killed or died, and is now starting over in another body. For that reason, the child is thought to be very in touch with the reactive mind (as the Mace-Kingsley guys is explaining above) and the light processes are supposed to ease the child into present time and out of the trauma of the death which just occurred.

And by the way: Scientologists believe in past lives. This you probably know. But they are also not particularly believers in future lives. Reason being that once you are Clear and OT, there are no lives. You are a spirit. Its a fine line of what they believe and I thought I might just go ahead and interject it.

-------

As far as the sec checking is concerned, there are sec checking actions that can be and have been done on children. I think for the most part, that was used on Sea Org kids the most. Those are the kids who have parents in the Sea Org.

In addition, very unruly children would be given sec checking too, if the parents had paid for auditing for them. It may or may not be the first action they get. If there is known history of bad behavior, they could be put directly into sec checking. For example if the child was hanging out with gang members (has happened), or suspicion of theft by the family, or other such things.

Poor grades in school would not be a reason for sec checking. They could get some light auditing as above, but they would more likely get word clearing (which is just going through the materials the person has trouble with and finding the words they cannot define and getting them cleared up with a dictionary).

-------

I do not know of too many kids getting sec checked, unless their parents were in the Sea Org.

I hope this helps explain it.

A "Child Audit" is the first step to indoctrinating the child...get him used to "getting off his overts in session" - and start the PC folder in case he ever speaks out against Scientology. This is not rocket science - it is a cult and they like to start YOUNG!!

:bigcry: - poor kids that get stuck in this cult - eventually, they join staff and then turn on their parents who see the "tech" changing and try to do something about it but are shut up or shunned by their kids!

It eventually comes full circle - the parents that put their kids in the cult eventually get the parents kicked out or suppressed!! The old timers know something is wrong - the young, new ones don't - they have nothing to compare it to... so eventually Scientology will become the 3rd party to conflict in EVERY FAMILY!! But the ones in don't know it and can't see it.

That is how it rolls!

I was born and raised in the cult and my mother was a highly trained auditor. With that being said, I've never had child sec-checking.

What I experienced was a lot of TRs and Objectives type stuff. And when on the cans, it was usually ARC breaks and withholds. Light stuff. Also, they can't force you to audit. The child has to be willing to "be" there and be audited. My mother struggled with this because I never wanted to sit in session. It was boring to me. I would come to her, however when it felt like my life was having trouble, but again, it was just the light stuff.

I would have been a poster child for sec-checking, but I never received it and from what I and society can tell, I grew into a fairly normal self-determined individual without it.

I have had child sec checking, by the way.

Someone had stolen something and I was a prime candidate. So I was sent in for sec checking. I was about 10 or 11 years old. I did not get that list of questions. They were specific questions because they were looking for something that had been stolen. I remember the session very well. She kept asking me in many different ways if I had taken whatever it was... maybe some money? I cant remember. I did not steal it. But I told her that over and over, but I guess the meter was telling her something else. To this day, I swear I did not take it. I have stolen other things, tons of times, as a child in Scn, but this particular thing they were looking for, I did not take. There were hundreds of others kids it could have been.

Anyways, she was not getting anywhere, so then she started to just ask me questions and watch the meter to get the answer. She was using it to find out... whatever it was reacting to, she went down that road. At the end, she indicated (told me) what I had stolen. Then she said it must be something on the wholetrack (I think it was millions of dollars that she came up with on her meter).

I was scared, but that made me chuckle. She let me leave.

I guess because she was my best friends momma, she didn't scare me much.

But she did not miss anything on me, I just did not steal whateverthehelltheywerelookingfor!!!!

Thank you for the reply! Wow, that seems like way too much to even grasp at such a young age. I also do think your experience is very relivent to what I was asking about "today".. I really was just trying to focus on modern day and not so much chain lockers on the Apollo, only bc it can be dismissed as treatment of children in the past and it could be argued that those were the old days and such things have been reformed.

Clearly Leah is thinking the way she was raised is relevant to how children are raised today.

You know we love you !

LOL

The sec checking I had as a child was around 1981 or 82 or so.

I am pretty sure as DM is getting more paranoid, sec checking is getting heavier and heavier (of course, when was the last time HE got any sec checking? NEVER, I bet. At least not in the last 20 years).

I think one of the scares for Leah, is that in Scn, as they get into that age, they become curious and if Scn is the only thing that they are surrounded by, well then, that will be all they see. And her daughter could easily get sucked into it. Even wanting to join the Sea Org and end up disconnecting from Leah as part of it. Leah could see where it was leading. She could see the lack of compassion and understanding. And the ZERO open-ness for discovering ones own path.

.
.

Could be that there is more pressure to get kids in now to make up for low stats on adults taking services. (ref: some of Black Robs posts when some woman -name escapes me now, was trying to get kids in to do stuff.- It might not be orders from above, just individuals scrambling for "raw meet". Do they call the kids "lambs"?

Might anyone know how important this book is when learning how to audit children? Is this still relevant material? CHILD DIANETICS Dianetic Processing for Children http://www.tep-online.info/laku/usa/reli/scien/SECRETDOX/CHILD_DIANETICS.pdf

Here is an excerpt from Chapter 9 on page 68. I recommend taking a look and reading the chapter, it's pretty informative assuming these are accurate examples of child auditing?

CHAPTER 9 SESSIONS WITH CHILDREN
The following is a verbatim account of several Dianetic processing sessions, or portions of sessions with children. Its purpose is to show how an auditor may work with children who are old enough for processing in reverie.
Nephew Jimmy, age 10 1/2, has been showing the auditor his work bench and the model airplanes he is currently building. Jimmy knows that his uncle is an HDA, but doesn't know what Dianetics is. He has a great deal of affinity for his uncle.
AUDITOR: Very nice. Say, let's try some Dianetics.
JIMMY: Okay. What do I do?
AUDITOR: Make yourself comfortable on the bed. Take off your shoes. (Jimmy does this.) You want a pillow? Are you comfortable?
JIMMY: I don't need a pillow. I'm all right.
AUDITOR: You will remember all that happens. All right. You may close your eyes. If the light is too bright, you may put one arm over your eyes. (Jimmy does this.) Now, let's
return to a very pleasant incident. (Pause). What are you doing?
JIMMY: I was playing with my dog in the back yard.
AUDITOR: What is your dog's name?
JIMMY: Spike.
AUDITOR: What do you hear?
JIMMY: My dog was barking.
AUDITOR: What else do you hear?
JIMMY: Cars going by in the street.
AUDITOR: Is anyone talking?
JIMMY: No.
AUDITOR: Is anyone else there?
JIMMY: Yes, my mother was hanging up the wash.
(Jimmy remains aware of the reality of the incident as something that happened to him in the past. Continues to use past tense and yet returns efficiently. Perceptics seem to be good.)
AUDITOR: What are you doing?
JIMMY: Playing with my dog.
AUDITOR: Is it fun?
JIMMY: Yes.
AUDITOR: What sort of a day is it?
JIMMY: Warm.
AUDITOR: What happens next?

27. Brain-washing starts in the cradle.

28. The continuous disasters of man’s history are mainly due to his excessive capacity and urge to become identified with a tribe, nation, church or cause, and to espouse its credo uncritically and enthusiastically, even if its tenets are contrary to reason, devoid of self-interest and detrimental to the claims of self-preservation. We are thus driven to the unfashionable conclusion that the trouble with our species is not an excess of aggression, but an excess capacity for fanatical devotion.

Who is Arthur Koestler. Well I was reading this, The Power of Words, http://www.percepp.com/hypnosis.htm,
this morning and one paragraph mentions his name:

The effect of successful oratory is literally to change the minds of the crowd, to change the neural patternings of the hearers. Oratory achieves this through the combination of words (powerful words associated with forceful action and concrete perceptions) + harmonised action (gestures deriving from the words) + visual symbolic context (flags, slogans). Arthur Koestler emphasised the power and dangers of oratory. "Man's deadliest weapon is language. He is as susceptible to being hypnotised by slogans as he is to infectious diseases... The individual is not a killer, but the group is, and by identifying with it the individual is transformed into a killer. This is the infernal dialectic reflected in man's history of wars, persecution and genocide. And the main catalyst of that transformation is the hypnotic power of the word. The words of Adolf Hitler were the most powerful agents of destruction at his time."
