Karla Zamudio on Scientology, and capturing Marc and Claire Headley in the short film ‘Escape’

By Tony Ortega, June 13, 2016

On Saturday, Karla Zamudio and Rachael Meyers screened their 15-minute student film, Escape, for a private audience in Los Angeles that included Spanky Taylor, who had been featured in Alex Gibney’s documentary about Scientology, Going Clear.

Escape is also about Scientology, specifically the story of how Marc and Claire Headley managed to get away from the church’s secretive International Base in 2005, a story that Marc told in his thrilling 2009 book Blown for Good.

We’ve seen the film, and we talked to Claire Headley and Karla Zamudio about it. We hope you get to see this intense short movie soon, perhaps at a film festival later this year.

Karla is a former Scientologist and a working actor. She made the film with Meyers as part of an assignment at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, which has its own lengthy history with Scientology.

Marc Headley’s “Blown For Good” Made Into Short Film.

Scientology Bullocks now has an article:

Marc Headley’s “Blown For Good” Made Into Short Film

Marc Headley grew up in the Church of Scientology. He joined the Sea Org when he was a young teenager. It was kind of foisted off on him as a 2nd generation Scientologist.

Marc became an executive in Golden Era Productions at Scientology International Base in San Jacinto, California.

In his executive position, Marc routinely worked directly with Scientology leader David Miscavige. Marc describes the actual incident in which David Miscavige flew into a rage and violently assaulted him.

Marc describes the punishments at the pinnacle of Scientology Inc. Here’s where the Sea Org members consider themselves ELITE and superior human beings, more *enlightened* more knowledgeable, more *on source* with L Ron Hubbard technology ~~ at the top of the hierarchy.

Short movie based on ‘Blown for Good’ gets festival

The “Brainwash Movie Festival” sounds pretty unique. Now in its 22nd year, the festival is held outdoors in Oakland, and the public is encouraged to “drive-in, bike-in, or walk-in” to catch the “truly independent” films that are shown.

On Saturday, July 30, one of those films will be Escape, produced by Karla Zamudio and directed by Rachael Meyers, which adapts some of the material from Marc Headley’s 2009 book, Blown for Good.

So hey, if you’re in Oakland, get on your fixie and pedal over.
