Mommyish: Scientology Is Creeping Into Schools Disguised As An Anti-Drug Program

http://www.mommyish.com/2015/01/29/...ogram-nyc-foundation-for-a-drug-free-america/

* * * * * EXCERPT * * * * *

The Foundation For a Drug Free World was founded in 2006 and appears to be internationally active. DNA Info reports it visited 30 city public schools last year. I’m not sure who wrote their literature, but they are telling kids some pretty interesting factz™ about drug use. Here are some gems from their pamphlet, The Truth About Drugs:

Screen-Shot-2015-01-29-at-6.29.32-AM.png

“A small amount acts as a stimulant (speeds you up). A greater amount acts as a sedative (slows you down). An even larger amount poisons and can kill. This is true of any drug. Only the amount needed to achieve the effect differs.”

What? So they’re teaching kids that all drugs are the same and have the same effect on your body. That’s helpful. Smoke a little weed? Stimulant! Smoke a little heroin? Same! Who wrote this stuff?

Here’s what they have to say about marijuana:

“Because a tolerance builds up, marijuana can lead users to consume stronger drugs to achieve the same high. When the effects start to wear off the person may turn to more potent drugs to rid himself of the unwanted conditions that prompted him to take marijuana in the first place.”

I’m all for educating children about the dangers of drugs, but can we do it with real facts – not whatever this information is? Did some dude with literally no knowledge of drugs and their effects on the body just decide to whip up an anti-drug pamphlet one morning? Because that’s sure what this looks like. The pamphlet claims cocaine leads to murder and suicide and heroin causes spontaneous abortions in women.

Great article...and International Business Times newspaper is a good avenue to get the word out that this is a Cult Front Group.

A new story today from the Daily Beast:
Scientology and D.A.R.E. Are Coming for Your Kids

Mason Tvert, Director of Communications for the Marijuana Policy Project, has seen this sort of thing too many times, and says the harm it does is immeasurable. “Drug education should be guided by science, not religion. Rather than being honest and realistic, this program appears to rely on fear and misinformation,” he says. “It’s a combination of loosely interpreted facts, scary scenes, and implausible conclusions tied together with edgy graphics. It’s science fiction.”

A new article in the NY Daily News:

daily_zps3cnop6ms.jpg

The head of the city schools system is not happy that Scientologists have been making anti-drug pitches to their kids — and now she’s investigating the situation.

“We’re looking into it. I’m not sending them out to schools. It’s not under my name,” Chancellor Carmen Fariña told the Daily News of the church-funded Foundation for a Drug Free World.

Fariña weighed in Thursday amid reports that the group had made anti-drug presentations in dozens of schools and to NYPD youth groups.

<snip>

Foundation honcho Meghan Fialkoff insisted she wasn’t trying to lure kids into Scientology.

“It’s a secular program,” she said. “Every school we work with is given all the material we work with in in advance. This is a professional organization that has professional materials. Anything else that is stated is a lie.”

Not so, said journalist Tony Ortega, a critic of the religion founded by sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard.

“Their idea is if someone comes into the school and talks about drugs to kids, it loosens people up to the idea that L. Ron Hubbard is an authority who can be trusted,” Ortega said.

Here's an excerpt from a new article from David Love at the Examiner:

New York City Police endorse Scientology cult anti-drug program in schools
Interesting to note, is that when the ‘Foundation for a Drug-Free World’ is taught in public schools, the students are given a pamphlet with a toll-free number on the back to take home. This number leads to Scientology’s Narconon network, a drug rehab empire that now has close to 30 lawsuits in the USA for fraud, misrepresentation, and even several patient deaths inside Narconon centers.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State: Going Unclear: Scientology Program Infiltrates NY Public Schools

https://www.au.org/blogs/wall-of-se...ntology-program-infiltrates-ny-public-schools

* * * * BEGIN EXCERPT * * * * *

Given these allegations and the obviously religious nature of the foundation’s work, the NYPD should immediately stop facilitating its presence in public schools. The Church of Scientology fought hard for its tax-exempt status. But if it’s going to call itself a religion, it has to obey the laws that restrict proselytizing in public schools.

And that means no more public school presentations. It’s time for the church to be transparent about its sectarian motivations, and it’s time for officials, including the NYPD, to hold them accountable and stop allowing them access to students.

At Tony O's blog this morning (scroll down til you come to this headline):

Could a Scientologist hoodwink all of Queens?

You have to hand it to the glamorous Meghan Fialkoff, daughter to wealthy Queens dentist Bernard Fialkoff. The two of them have been operating Scientology front groups right out of Scientology’s Times Square “org” for years, and yet the supposedly sophisticated New York City schools they infiltrate and local leaders they gladhand never seem to catch on that they’re being played for fools on behalf of L. Ron Hubbard.

Scientology subsidiary Foundation for a Drug Free World claims to have made their presentation at “Brooklyn Middle School” yesterday. Unfortunately, although there are many intermediate schools, there is no school by the name “Brooklyn Middle School” in New York. We suspect that recent articles on the program have made them shy about revealing actual school names. If parents don’t know their child was sent to a Scientology assembly, they can’t object.

The Foundation For A Drug Free World will be holding an event at a public health clinic, AVIS Vaelnza, in the town of Valenza, Italy on February 10th. There is no Scientology facility near Valenza, our guess is that this is the work of either the Turin or Milan orgs. Below is the “La Verità Sulla Droga” crew.

Summit Academy Charter School in Brooklyn, NY hosted Bernard and Meghan Fialkoff today for a presentation by the Foundation For A Drug Free World. The school is located at 27 Huntington Street, Brooklyn, NY, but Scientology is listing it as only “Brooklyn Charter School.” They have avoided naming particular schools recently in an attempt to avoid negative press.

Scientology’s caption for the photo above is “Brooklyn Charter School with Assemblyman & NYPD Community Affairs.” We can confirm that the gentleman on the far left is not Assistant Speaker of the New York Assembly Félix W. Ortiz, who represents the district that contains Summit Academy Charter School, and we cannot find him among current Assembly members. We do know he participated in the presentation.
