Re: Scientology leader’s father signs a book deal, for ' RUTHLESS' (IF HE DIES, HE DI

It was a terrific broadcast.:clap:  :thumbsup:

Leah Remini was outstanding, so warm and gets straight to the point. Her clear voice and simple, concise statements brought it all home.

Monique Yingling comes across as one who believes any amount of abuse is acceptable to anyone dumb enough to sign a billion year contract. The constant eyeblinking and weird facial tan dye was annoying. Her face is hard and cruel. Like a lawyer version of Cruella DeVille.

Generally I think the public would view the show as a father who was once abusive raised a son who became an absolute monster. Although many years ago Ron softened up and changed his ways, David only became more ruthless.

It is very sad, and the show points out the pain and destruction of scn's disconnection and breaking apart families very well.

ABC did a great job. Cute they mentioned how scn abused their reporters at the Atlanta opening, lol.

I think Leah was the star, her honest and simple statements of the obvious hit home.

I won't make any comment about Ron Miscavige himself as generational scientology is a hard subject for me, other than to say that at least he did eventually wake up .... when it hit close enough to home for him. Yes I'm glad he is speaking out though. There is nothing pretty about not knowing your grandchildren and having your own flesh and blood disconnect and deny you, and the more it is spoken about the better.

Yingling is unspeakably awful and I hope 'what goes around comes around' hits her in the behind. Yuk.

Leah has an amazing way with words. I just love her.

Do any Aussies remember when Scientology had a lawyer appear on a programme down here - maybe Lateline or Four Corners?

The guy was like the stereotypical strip-mall ambulance-chaser. I was reminded of this watching Yingling - could she have looked any dodgier.

Anyhoo trying to find the video of the Australian lawyer but can't remember enough details

YES! He looked dumb, fat and sweaty.

He also looked fervently off camera for encouragement when asked a question. It was the interview about the Scientology [strike]prison camp[/strike] religious retreat in suburban Dundas (which he repeatedly pronounced incorrectly as Dunders).

Also, he embellished just about every answer with "my client has instructed me to say". That was truly awful. Thanks for the reminder

Rare appearance of a senior executive.

Amongst those never in, like me, there may be a difference in perspective between those who have some knowledge about the subject (again like me, and I hope I may say so) and those who don't know more about it than LOLXENU and Tom Cruise. (Which includes all those who have never heard of COS, and, at least here in the Netherlands, that's a lot of them.)

I thought it was a good enough interview to scratch the surface and show that COS and David Miscavige are evil and that Yingling is not well informed by her cult boss and/or is lying.

However, I think COS is still handled (punt intended) with kid's gloves. That may be because ABC was glad to at least have someone from COS in the show instead of all these vague Karen Pouw statements. They also still may be afraid COS is going to sue them for even the tiniest mistake. (Remember that almost at every occasion a show or documentary (Going Clear comes to mind) is hyped with statements like they used >9,000 lawyers to vet it.)

I guess we will have to wait a long time for a good interview done by a journalist who is well versed in the subject, such as Tony Ortega. I'm not holding my breath. David Miscavige may be stupid (ok, he is  ), but he knows very well that against someone like Tony he would have no chance at all.

In the past, whenever Miscavige has been in an interview or deposition situation, he has been toast. He will never do it again.

I wonder why we haven't heard anything from Ron Miscavige Junior?

He was a high-flying Int Management Exec before he and his wife left scientology. His daughter, Jenna, escaped and wrote a book and now his father has done the same so why doesn't he come out and say which side he's on?

Maybe he's been paid off?

There was a training vid going around years ago with Ronny Jr in full SO uniform exhorting the troops to make more money. Probably been scrubbed by now.

The story is spreading. Forgive me if this has already been posted.

"Yet the church’s attempt to silence Mr Hunter has backfired spectacularly, he believes.

“My phone has been ringing off the hook,” said the former literary agent, who runs a one-man publishing house in London. The prospect of pitting father versus the son in court, with all the revelations that would entail, has tantalised those fascinated with the shadowy organisation.

“Everyone wants to know about the story now,” he said. “They gave me an opportunity in sending me that letter. Now people can’t wait to see what has got the church so angry.”

Wait, in this article the C of S is denying that they sent PIs to follow Mr Miscavige (senior) yet Yinling admitted that it's fairly normal for attorneys to hire PIs.

Are they just being pedantic as to who actually hired the PIs as I thought most people could make the leap of logic here that statement that they weren't actually hired by the church as a technicality, as in, 'I didn't have sexual relations with that woman...' :)

But gotta love the Streisand Effect...

I think Monique Yingling's sudden emergence as Scientology's spokesperson on the 20-20 TV SHOW is rather bizarre for a number of reasons:

* As a PR spokesperson she is awful. Besides looking somewhat morbid (a pitiful representative for the tech that makes people happy happy happy) she is neither trained nor skilled in public relations. She is a lawyer specializing in non-profits and taxes!

* Rather than try to "spin" the truth, she lazily just blatantly lies about any facts that make Scientology or Miscavige look bad. In this sense she is no different than any other spokesperson in the history of Scn.

* She is an unskilled liar. Incessant blinking and an off-putting emotionless "flat affect" presentation is the exact opposite of what is needed to make people like (and trust) the much hated/feared Church of Scientology.

* She is extremely unlikable and makes no effort whatsoever to fix that fatal PR flaw. She doesn't even make the slightest attempt to be warm, friendly or smile.

It is really a remarkable thing that Scientology has a 66 year, uninterrupted track record of DISASTROUS spokespersons, beginning with:

--Ron "I never had a second wife" Hubbard himself.

--Followed by the shallow buffoonery of Heber "You-love-drugs-don't-you-Dennis?" Jentzsch.

--Then we had David "You're-fired-Heber-hey-now-I'll-fuck-this-up-myself" Miscavige who made a single night's effort to take over the cult's PR with one interview (Ted Koppel) that exposed "COB" as a nasty little arrogant huckster.

--Then, the alternately smarmy and vicious imbecile known as Tommy "There-is-no-such-thing-as-disconnection" Davis took to the airwaves, believing himself to have superpowers over the media--only to literally clownishly lie in a way that converted every "Hill 10" PR meltdown into a Hill 11, or worse.

Scientology simply cannot find anyone to front their cult in a way that doesn't come off as shady, sleazy or sensationally stupid sophistry.

Now we have Monique, the new face of Scientology. I think after off that 20-20 national TV interview, she is going to promptly be retired from public view again because everyone is already "overrun" and over-dosed with her deadpan eyes and monotonous lies.

Personally, I am already tired of her self-satisfied ineptitude. In other words, get her outta here, it's enough--everybody's already got Yingling up the Yinyang.

Oh i don't know, seems kind of appropriate to have a corporate tax attorney as the face of scientology.
