FINALLY....the Los Angeles Times weighs in after sleeping through the entire Billboard saga that media from around the USA picked up on.
And it was in the Shadows of Los Angeles Times

Well perhaps they were "jolted" into saying something ~

http://www.latimes.com/books/jacket...threatens-lawsuit-scientology-book-story.html

Now here is something we have not seen before. The LA Times asked Scientology about this and here is what they said:

"The Church of Scientology did not respond to a request for comment"

David Miscavige is in apathy....I think he is circling the drain

20/20: Father of Scientology Leader Ron Miscavige Calls Son 'Ruthless'

ABC 20/20 landed an exclusive interview with Ron Miscavige, the father of the head of the Church of Scientology, David Miscavige. Ron Miscavige knows a lot about the organization. He joined in 1970 and worked for The Sea Organization, a religious order for the Scientology religion, for nearly 27 years before leaving the Church in 2012. Ron Miscavige has written a book about his escape and his son who he describes as “ruthless.” According to Ron, David hired two investigators to follow his every move after he left the Church. One of the investigators was arrested for suspicion of obstruction. Police found two rifles, four handguns, 2,000 rounds of ammunition and a homemade silencer in his rented SUV. David Miscavige and the Church deny knowing the private investigator.

Ron Miscavige’s book, Ruthless: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige, and Me, will be released on May 3, 2015, and is available for pre-order on Amazon. The ABC 20/20 interview will premiere Friday, April 29 at 10pm.

Scientology Leader David Miscavige Threatens to Sue Over Father's Tell-All

APRIL 26, 201611:00am PT by Seth Abramovitch
A letter warns of a defamation suit should the book, 'Ruthless: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige, and Me,' get a release in the U.K. next week as planned, while the publisher responds: "My plans for the book haven't changed at all."
Lawyers for David Miscavige are mounting an eleventh-hour attempt at preventing the publication of a new tell-all about the Church of Scientology leader. The author is Miscavige's own father, Ron Miscavige.
As first reported by Scientology observer Tony Ortega on his website, London-based publisher Silvertail Books has received a letter from Johnsons Solicitors, a powerful law firm "with a strong reputation for its expertise … in media and defamation," according to its website.

Father's memoir spurs Scientology leader David Miscavige to threaten lawsuit | Los Angeles Times

The leader of the Church of Scientology, David Miscavige, is looking to stop the publication of a new tell-all memoir written by his father Ron Miscavige.

In a document first published by Tony Ortega, noted Scientology reporter, lawyers from Johnsons Solicitors, working on behalf of David Miscavige, contacted Silvertail Books, the publisher responsible for “Ruthless” in the U.K. and Ireland asking them to halt release of the book, scheduled to debut May 3.

<snipped>

“Ruthless” is the latest in a growing number of books looking to demystify the unseen aspects of Scientology. “Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief,” an exposé on the church written by Lawrence Wright, was released in 2013 and made into a 2015 documentary for HBO. Former Scientologist Leah Remini released her memoir, “Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology” detailing her time with the church in 2015.

Ron Miscavige will appear on “20/20” Friday to speak about “Ruthless” and his son.

The Church of Scientology did not respond to a request for comment.

An exposé about internal Scientology leadership struggles between founder L. Ron Hubbard and current leader David Miscavige is at the center of a controversy. The book alleged poor living conditions and violence at the organization’s headquarters in California.

The book, entitled ‘Ruthless: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige, and Me’, was written by Ron Miscavige. Among the allegations in the book is that David “seized power” from Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

Elsewhere in the purported disclosure, the author accuses his son of of “outmaneuvering rivals,” keeping “appalling conditions” at the headquarters in Hemet, California as well as detailing how church members are subjected to “deprivation and violence” while detained in a prison-like confinement center known as “the Hole,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

David Miscavige’s father also alleges that his son hired a private detective to trail him. The book is due for release in the UK on May 3.

Oh, the wonders of the Streisand effect. Humm, how did that work again? Send threatening letter to publisher, publisher shares letter with reporter, other reporters re-share it with an ever widening public... This is a good example of history repeating itself.

To those of you who weren't around Scientology back in the sixties, the FDA got a bee in it's bonnet and raided the church in '63, and hauled off a load of e-meters etc. So, what did Scientology do? Just a reminder, this was pre - internet. The only notice that anybody got was by reading about it in a few newspapers. If it got on the TV news at all, it would have been a tiny blip on the radar. In all of it's infinite wisdom, the Church wrote up, had printed on glossy paper, a booklet about the FDA raid and mailed it out to their entire CF (public)

Almost no one would have known about it if they hadn't done that fateful bulk mailing.

I guess Der David isn't much of a scholar of Scientology's history, is he? Or maybe he would have seen all the free publicity for Pop Pop's book he's handing out, and ignored the entheta like it says in the PTS A-J HCOPL.

I think Cat Daddy is right: Scientology is predictable.

Would anyone have guess that most of the media promotion for this book would come from Scientology?

Yes. We all did.

Would anyone have guess that David Miscavige would have learned anything from his shameless promotion of Going Clear?

No. Learning not to draw media attention by the pathetic use of fair-laming would be off-source.

Beating up others even in the first Grade. Violent. Bully. Grew up to be a sadist.

http://omnifeed.com/article/abcnews...her-davids-childhood-joined/story?id=38675334

I'm watching the news early this morning as I'm drinking coffee and trying to wake up for work. In under 10 minutes they twice showed the same teaser for the 20/20 program. Ron Miscavige saying: "I'm the one who got him into Scientology....... it's just crazy."

I don't recall any other time when such a bad publicity spotlight has been on Little Dave. Like most bullies who when the crowd stands up and says: "No more" he will puff out his chest, scream and threaten, and then silently fade away.

It may take time but this very well could be the albatross around his neck.

Precisely. He has stayed off the radar for some time.

With the Truth Rundown and CNN 360, we first heard his name, and he began to appear in the media.

With the press that happened when Katie Holmes divorced TC and with Leah Remini's book, he started to be more directly focused on, but still his name was mentioned alongside the hole, disconnection, the RPF etc.

In this instance, it is all about him. Every word.

Anyone reading this is going to be moved. Ask yourself this: What would it take for a father to turn on his own son? Everyone hearing even the title of this book is going to understand how wicked David Miscavige is.

Well said. Also with him threatening to sue for defamation even before the book comes out puts a very bad light on him. All that tells people is that he's guilty and is panicking.

At the end of the Daily Mail article it quotes Karin Pouw responding to claims that David Miscavige hired those private investigators to follow his father:

"Mr. Miscavige has always taken care of his father and continues to do so.’ Scientology spokeswoman Karen Pouw wrote."

But in the legal letter to Silvertail Books it says:

"This book represents the malicious fabrications of a disaffected former member of the Church who has had no meaningful relationship with our client since our client left home at age sixteen to pursue his life in the Church."

Hmmm, conflicting statements.

Yes, scientology is very predictable. It is an inflexible beast, using the same script(s) it has been using since the 1950s and '60s. Hubbardisms.

I forget the name of the PR reference (this is a really good thing) but there is some ref which offers the concept that any publicity is good publicity - it's all in the way the scientology PR dept/person handles the responses (by attacking and utterly destroying the person responsible for bad-mouthing the cult).

Also in signs of success, it is considered a huge sign of "all things good for expansion/success" when the organisation is under attack. This is actually a deeply entrenched concept.

So, the average parishioner will honestly think the group is doing really really well because Miscavige is being hammered in the media by his own father. It is a "sign of success". WTF!?!

SCIENTOLOGY LEADER DAVID MISCAVIGE
THREATENS TO SUE FATHER OVER BOOK

[LETTER FROM COS LAWYERS]

We are instructed, on the basis of information put to our client, that the book contains malicious, false, misleading and highly defamatory allegations relating to our client, including inter alia:

i. That our client was never officially appointed to be L. Ron Hubbard’s successor but rather seized power by outmanoeuvring his rivals;

ii. That Gold Base is surrounded by spiked fencing pointing inwards;

iii. That working and living conditions at Gold Base were appalling and staff were not permitted to leave;

iv. That our client created “The Hole” as a means of punishing Sea Org members and that people were subjected to deprivation and violence whilst detained in “The Hole”;

v. That our client lives in lavish conditions whilst Church staff live in poor conditions;

vi. That our client’s management style is erratic and abusive;

vii. That our client hired Private Detectives to carry out surveillance on Ron Miscavige.

How is this not the Streisand Effect, guaranteed to exponentially promote things that Scientology has desperately been trying to hide? LOL
