short intro

Hello all

I just tried to post an intro and something strange happened. The whole thing disappeared before I could finish. So here goes again.

I left the cult in early '96, following a near insanity-inducing barrage of keeping scientology working, sec checks and ot v rundowns at flag. After the thrill of it all wore off, and I realized I was worse off than ever, I went to the library and read Barefaced Messiah and other books. Finally it all made sense. Couldn't go on fooling myself--it was all a horrible mistake and I'd spent the previous 26 years supporting an elaborate fantasy.

I was at first somewhat active as a critic on the internet, and the by the late nineties I pretty much faded away. Not sure why, but a lot was happening.

During my time as a cult member I was in the s.o. through the '70s at CCLA. Held the posts of auditor, Chief cramming officer, Qual sec. I left staff and the s.o. in 1979 after a brief stint in the old guardian's office. (Never fit in there and never got access to an secret operations.) In the eighties I worked for a while at Delphi Oregon.

There's a lot more to it, but to make it short, I'm back now. I've done several pickets here in LA in the last couple of months, the most recent being the picket of the orange county ideal org grand opening. (fun) Hope to learn a lot here from you all and will post whenever I feel have something useful to say.

Thanks,

John

Welcome John

Do you remember who the Tech Sec was in the spring of 74?

I know he was being investigated for holding down the WDAH in the 1100 to 1200 per week range. That was when I had a major disagreement with the FR about him being an SP.

Welcome John!

May this site provide many healing belly laughs to go along with the opportunity to open some minds.

Glad you're protesting and carrying the torch.

Welcome Johnd,
Glad to hear you found your way out; and found your way here.
We like stories. The more the merrier.
The main thing that keeps scn going is silence. Getting back into the game and adding your voice can help those who still wonder if it was just them, and may prevent others from falling into the trap. It is all good.
Enjoy the protests, they seem like a bit of fun.

Great to have ya here John!

:welcome:

Do tell us some of your stories too! I'd love ta hear what your take on picketing with Anons was like, ie., what it felt like for you to be on the 'other side of the fence' sortta thing.
What made you decide to raise yer head (again?) ?

Regardless, another heartfelt welcome to ya mon!

Congratulations John on getting on the Net now and starting
to tell your story. You have MUCH to share...and are good at doing so.

If anyone would like to see him talk, we made a video a few days ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv0nFtgm8T8&list=UU__gcXYVQlmVocNLZykibUw&index=2&feature=plcp

And ftr...John is my roommate here in Burbank, CA. We've been friends since I first met his x-wife and he---many years ago at Celebrity Center. He will always remain, for many of us who had him as a "Camming officer" then...one of THE best!
Literally---way back in the 70's ...we would audit, have a good session, and then read "FLUNK!" back from the C/S. We'd go see John, who'd ask: "Well, what DID happen?"

We would tell him--------he'd tear up the Cram (true story) and re-write what DID actually need to be fixed. Quite amazing in that time period.

Anyways, welcome to ESMB! I, too, look forward to reading more about your story. Remember this: You never know who *may* be lurking and what You write just may be *their* final straw.

My best to all :thumbsup::biggrin:

Welcome Johnd.

There is one good thing about Delphi Oregon. You can look down into the valley below and see the Federal Prison just across Highway 18.

I hope you will be happy here.

Hi and welcome John!

So...the near insanity-inducing barrage of KSW, sec checks, etc. was in '96! Glad you didn't stick around for the circa 2005-2008 incarnation of same but with
"Basics"!

Glad you got out earlier!! Looking forward to hearing some stories! Hope you enjoy making friends here!

Hi dchoice,

No I cannot for the life of me remember who it was. Do you recall any hints-- gender, appearance, age at the time, etc?

Thanks for the welcome.

Hi Arthur,

It was fall '95. Which technical "era" it was in slips my mind, but it was when the true definition of "floating needle" was at last made clear. I recall sitting tensely at the examiner a few times watching him stare at the meter looking for a "standard" f/n. As I recall, I finally just thought of something that I knew would make the needle "float" just to get out of there.

Hi greywolf,

I was there from '86 to about '89. There was no prison then, but there was talk of building one. A lot of Sheridan people supported it I think as the town was impoverished. Glad there is something good about the place. I had a number of struggles there trying to reshape the curriculum and introduce actual teaching--pretty much a lost cause.
