This 'true for you' business is one of my favorite examples of Scientology being slippery. Depending on exactly how you use the expression, "What's true is what's true for you" could mean merely that you have to check things out for yourself, and not just accept someone else's dogma. Nobody's going to argue with that. On the other hand it could mean that you're infallible, because whatever seems true to you must be true. That's obviously stupid.
In Scientology you get to slide back and forth between these meanings. When you want to ignore evidence or criticism, you can slide over to the infallibility side and calmly insist that your beliefs are true for you. When you want to feel like a rational being instead of a blinkered bigot, you can slip back to the empirical side, and proclaim that Scientology has no dogma. You can have your cake and eat it too. That's a pretty slick trick.
