Suri Cruise - what is she drinking

We were thankful for the barley formula - we never liked the idea of our babies or toddlers having processed/refined foods being a large part of their diet.

Absolutely, we too! We have 3 children, 1 born in the SO, 2 after. All 3 were brought up on barley formula only, after breastmilk for some weeks. We prepared barleymilk for them wherever we went, as long as they wished, and they would refuse as soon as we would put anything else in their bottle. For the sweetener, we took kind of what was available, maple syrup, karo syrup was sometimes hard to get, also did we use honey at some occasion. Important was to not put in much, just a very light sweet flavour.

All 3 children are grown up by now, all 3 have splendid teeth, strong bones, no health issues so far. It's still a pleasure to see their strong and wellshaped bodies.

Yess sir eee!

Way after our kids were off the "titty dinner" and "barley formula", I still made up barley water and added it to cold drinks that they had.

LRH may have presented it as his own, but barley is a pretty damn good nutrient (something not to be scoffed at), and I'm still thankful for the tip. :)

He got it from the Victorians. They got it from traditional practices.

I would never give any baby of mine barley formula, nor would I recommend it to others. I believe that breast is best and should be the only sustenance a baby should be offered for at least the first 6 months.

The whole barley water/formula thing scares me to death. What the hell have women been given breasts for? My 3 kids were breast fed for 1 year, 2 years and two & a half years respectively. They are fine, healthy and have excellent teeth. Babies don't need to have a sweetener added to anything, as breast milk is not sweet. A sweet taste is something that develops due to being given sweet things. Babies do not crave it or need it.

There is something terribly wrong with an organisation which advocates the separation of mother and baby, and suggests that there is something better than breast millk. It is one of the reasons I left scn, because I did not want my baby to be put in a creche and fed on some kind of formula that I wasn't responsible for making, but left in the hands of some nanny/kids. As we can see by the posts on this thread, there were many variables with people's opinions coming in as to what they thought was better or how they thought it should be made. Thank god I got out when I did.

I filled in for someone at the CEO for a few weeks. There the babies got the barley formula ....

My lactose intolerant, Scottish family has used straight barley water for babies for several generations and are strong, healthy and long-lived.
Did they get the formula from the first day of their life or at 6 months or so?

I gave my son Barley formula from about 3-6 months (when I returned to work) -- I was very much "in" at that time and LRH was "God" then. He was allergic to cow's milk so we used goat's. The thing that killed me later was that the recipe said to use "pearled" barley at that time, I found out later it should have been "whole" barley. . .the lady at the health food store tried to tell me that. . . .but of course I wouldn't listen. I think later that PL was corrected.

I regretted doing that.

Thankfully, my son is fine so I guess there was no harm done. But I would never recommend to anyone to do it unless they'd thoroughly researched it. I got out of that one lucky, I think.

Did you use muslins? Or just boiled the whole barley in water? For how long?
