I really liked the movie that was made about Temple and hope that it provides a larger number of people the chance to see and better accept and value the differences in people.

When I was a kid, all of the people that were too far outside "normal" were put in special classes and kept away from the rest of the kids (tells you how old I am). I think it far better to mainstream (the the extent it makes sense for kids with special needs) so that everyone gets used to interacting with each other and even valuing those special aspects of each other.

Sorry about your nephew's situation :(

You are right about mainstreaming. Advancement, even miracles have occured because of it.

Tell your relatives to never give up hope and efforts toward independence. They are the fuel that drives accomplishment.

I met Temple Grandin years ago and attended "Field Day" (Workshop/Seminar) she was part of, put on by CSU. I’ve used some her methods and watched them in action. Most of her stuff works incredibly well. It will be another generation or two before all of her work is accepted and broadly used throughout the Beef Cattle Industry. Brilliant women.

I think half the beef processed in the US at this time is handled by methods she developed. The industry idolizes her, and rightly so. Watch some of the industry clips on YouTube; it is "Temple Grandin taught us this" and "Temple Grandin taught us that".

And the movie, Temple Grandin, is excellent. Would have been Oscar material but it was a cable movie so doesn't qualify. You can get it from NetFlix. Or another source that shall remain unnamed but if you need an invite then PM me.

You are correct, Disinfected.

I’ve seen the flick twice…you’re right…Oscar quality performance and screenplay.

My comment was predicated on the fact that much of the processing industry has readily accepted some of her principles but not all…mostly due to costs and capital needed to implement them all.

Only a tiny, but slowly growing, segment of the production side of the industry (cattle producers, feeders) use her stuff...they are very slow to change…capital requirements are a huge part of the problem...therefore my comment re: a generation, maybe two, before the entire industry uses much of her stuff in all segments.
