I know they are usually granted ex parte but you should still be entitled to a hearing at some time

The way it works in NSW is, the police can serve an ex-parte Apprehended Violence Order if the victim requests it. An ex-parte AVO becomes effective immediately and lasts for 30 days. If Aaron has any firearms, he'll have to surrender them. After the ex-parte order is served, a court date will be arranged, where a "real" AVO can be sought. I don't know that OSA ANZO will get very far in court - what evidence do they have against Aaron?

The only good thing about AVOs is, you don't get a criminal record if there's an active AVO on you, and it expires after two years.
