got this from the ortega blog today in the comments section...
Hello all…I know I will probably be shunned forever for this…but I DO NOT feel bad for Shelly Miscavige. I have been reading some of the affidavits regarding her mother’s suicide/murder (Flo Barnett) and I am disgusted….please don’t come at me with “oh..she was brainwashed, oh…she didn’t realize, oh…she thought she was doing the right thing”..
Nope, don’t buy it. This is BEYOND cult brainwashing. She is despicable.
And yes, I believe everything in these affidavits.
Joyce Stephenson affidavit:
Flo, in my opinion, took her life because her physical state and impaired memory were intolerable. She believed she would never fully recover and therefore would not be able to regain the OT state because of possible brain damage. Also she could not work or travel or keep her blood pressure under control. Her Sea Org daughters, she felt, hated her because she had left the fold. Her church had deserted her by not handling her case as they constantly assured her they could. She regretted working so much in the past and spending a lot of this hard-earned money on unnecessary auditing.
Hana Eltingham affidavit:
Flo was very depressed after her daughter Shelley, Miscavige's wife, came to visit and ended up screaming at Flo. Flo said, in several of our phone talks, that neither Shelley or Miscavige cared a damn about her, and she was horrified into what monsters Scientology had turned her children. However, she promised to call Shelley again and ask for help.
I was deeply concerned about Flo's condition, but felt incapable of helping her as I doubted the effectiveness of auditing. I spoke with Camille, another daughter living with Flo, who said her mother refused to see the doctor because he hadn't helped her and said her condition wasn't serious. Camille said her sister Shelley and brother-in-law Miscavige knew about their mother's condition but refused to see her or have anything to do with her because, they said, Flo was making herself ill, refusing to see the doctor, and was "down stat.
According to both Flo and Camille, Flo was an embarrassment to Miscavige and Shelley, as; (1) Shelley visited Flo only once during her lengthy illness, Miscavige never did; (2) Shelley ended her visit to Flo by screaming at her; (3) they never took any action to assist Flo; (4) they considered Flo PTS due to her connection to former high ranking CSI officials, David and Julie Mayo, whom CSI declared Suppressive Persons, and her antagonism toward CSI; (5) they considered Flo a "squirrel" for receiving auditing from David and Julie Mayo.
In his February 17, 1991 declaration, Miscavige wrote on page 1, attached herein, "My only association with this tragedy was to console my wife who was understandably emotionally traumatized and grief stricken." Camille gave me the completely contrary impression - that Miscavige's wife, Shelley, was uninterested in anything to do with Flo and greatly relieved that her embarrassing mother was finally out of the picture.
Miscavige, Shelley and other CSI top executives had decided to be there (funeral) after all because they felt it was a duty and "to put on a show." Therefore our presence, as former Scientologists, wasn't wanted and would cause tension. I was very cross and upset, because Flo's Scientology relatives had done absolutely nothing to help her, but were going to put on a show for her funeral. But I agreed, and we sent a large wreath and a card instead -- for Flo's sake. Later, Camille thanked us for understanding. That was the last I heard from Camille.
Vicki Aznaran Affidavit:
Flo Barnett's suicide was a scandal within the inner circles of Scientology. This was not due to the fact that she supposedly committed suicide, but due to the fact that she had become a member of a declared. enemy group, David Mayo's Advanced Ability Center. She was receiving auditing and assistance from this group and at the time of her death, possessed a pack of the NED for OTS (secret upper level auditing procedures) which were believed to have come from David Mayo's group.
Flo Barnett's membership in this group made her a suppressive person as she was actively "squirreling" and a member of a suppressive group. The fact that David Miscavige was linked to her by familial ties was extremely repugnant to him and to his wife, Michelle (Shelley) Miscavige. David Miscavige's comment upon her death was that "THE BITCH GOT WHAT SHE DESERVED." His wife Shelly, did not appear to feel any different about it than David. I asked Shelly if she was doing alright since receiving this bad news. She said that personally she was doing just fine and that this was an excellent opportunity to find out where the NED for OTs materials had come from and to use it as leverage against Mayo. She also stated that it was not surprising that this happened to her mother since she had been "squirelling".
