The Waterkamps declare independance! A whole family is OUT!

I think a big distinction needs to be made in the decision to not associate with someone.

It is a right of any person, Scientologist or otherwise, to associate or not, with anyone.

The difference with the Borg Church is that they TELL you to not associate with someone THEY deem unacceptable, and then THREATEN you with heavy, painful consequences if you don't.

This is VERY DIFFERENT from anyone making the decision of their own volition, to not associate with an unpleasant person, and that is a basic right that we all have.

I agree. It also seems one-sided that Scientologists want the freedom to dictate what kind of people their employees associate with, but get antsy when another corporation, such as Waterkamp's employer, wishes to do the same.

Yes, it's called excommunication and is a common practice with many religious institutions. Enforcement varies in accordance with time & culture. Sometimes greater, sometimes less.

The Co$ differs in that throughout its relatively short history it has intentionally sought to control the lives of its membership and to injure those it sees as enemies of the church. It is a matter of degree, not quality.

Yep, plus they tell other people not to associate with the person. It's a blacklisting campaign.

Contrast it with someone who gets hacked off at someone or has a bad experience with him or her and blocks 'em.

Other than Andrew someone or other whose name escapes me I have never ever blocked anyone. Ever! Even the nutters, of which there are many.

I am glad the WaterKamps are out, however there are a great many people that are not!

And from my perspective these are long time scientologists brought up in this crap from a very young age and cannot and will not see the wood for the trees. That is their prerogative, and I do understand wholeheartedly, but I disagree. You do see the wood, but you won't look at the trees.

The family trees, the family trees of most scientologists run into at least three marriages. Every single one of them. Every single person in Scientology has been married at least three times including L. Ron Hubbard, who never had a second wife? DUH? He, or rather she, Mary Sue Hubbard brought out a book about saving YOUR marriage. 60 years down the line and how many times has TOM CRUISE been married? Come on guess? It's 3.

My Father married three times, L. Ron Hubbard married three times, my half sister married at least three times and yet these are the people that have the answer to everything. Tom Cruise married three times and now he's divorced, again!

Do you remember this?

The ideal scene TOM CRUISE is that YOU WAKE THE FUCK UP!

The ideal ORG, or is that BORG, stay exactly the same, YOU TOM CRUISE are ruining Scientology and for that I AM VERY GRATEFUL!

One day, one day Tom Cruise, you will wake up and when YOU do, YOU will be horrified at what YOU have been supporting.

Katie Holmes has every right to be concerned at what her child was getting into. The right to suppress freedom of information, the right to suppress life as we know it, the right to suppress freedom of speech, the right to suppress liberty.

They are the things YOU condone in YOUR fight to save Scientology!

I am not being glib, I am factual!

People can block or not block others as they want. It's everyone's own individual decision to make.

But think about this- if you've put yourself on a "do not call" list (if you live in the USA) so that telephone solicitors can't call you- that's the same thing. If you've elected not to talk to a nutty and nasty neighbor, that's the same thing.

So you bet your sweet bippy I blocked that dude who rote on my wall about my husband and periodically said stuff to me on message boards. It's no different than ignoring a street crazy or avoiding someone who'd like to steal my purse.

Thanks Sharone - I agree.

This is very relevant to the topic:

"Love and violence, properly speaking, are polar opposites. Love lets the other be, but with affection and concern. Violence attempts to constrain the other's freedom, to force him to act in the way we desire, but with ultimate lack of concern, with indifference to the other's own existence or destiny."

An interesting thing about this thread at Marty's is the fact that neither Marty nor anyone else (apart from Dr. Faust) seems to be willing to defend Ursula Caberta.

Ursula Caberta[,] a politician who saw this as a vehicle for her own self importance and getting taxpayer funding.

And tell Caberta she is a b***h.

Their out ethics and out integrity was what enabled Caberta to generalize their flaws for all Scientologists and taint each and every single Scientologist as an unreliable not trustworthy person.

I guess she is no longer useful to Marty.

I cringed at what I saw of her and Rathbun together. It seemed like a serious error of judgement on her part.

Let the Indies have their day, every last one of them. it may take 100 years from now, I don't see it happening in my lifetime, but let me tell you this, these people whom prey on the young and vulnerable will have their day in court and when they do, it will Obliterate Scientology OFF of the face of this earth, and when it happens I hope every last one of them realizes what they have created.

A MONSTER!

Hope you can live with that, and that of future children, I can't! Obviously YOU can!
