The worst single thing about Scientology...

HelluvaHoax!

I think it has taken me some good number of years to finally decide what is the worst single thing about Scientology.

Various answers to that question came in drips & drabs over the decades. The cost of the Bridge.. The disconnection. The criminality. The threats. The lies. The religious cloaking. The donations. The Fair Game. The cult worship of Hubbard. The list is endless.

But I have finally settled on one answer as the "ultimate answer" (for today anyways LOL).

ALTITUDE

The assumption of altitude, to be more exact.

How did I arrive at that. Well, it happened a few minutes ago when I saw a cool thread called something like: "What was the straw that broke the camel's back?" A provocative question that has been asked and answered many times. So, I decided to take a fresh look at it today and came up with this:

As an earth man, I did not like being corrected by advanced cosmic beings
who turned out to really be earth men trying to act all OT and junk.

Sounds kind of silly, but it started me thinking (again) about the ASSUMPTION OF ALTITUDE by Scientologists over other Scientologists and wogs.

It all began with Mankind's Greatest Altitude, L Ron Hubbard himself. He greedily assumed near-infinite and supernatural quantities of altitude over others. Read his "Admissions". Or simply read his public relations about himself....talk about altitude!! My God! (figuratively and literally too!)

I am Mankind's Greatest Friend

I am not from this planet.

I am the only one that ever made it thru the Wall of Fire

I am the only one that has the technology to free you.

I am the savior of all mankind

I am the only being able to salvage all beings in this universe.

I am the only one that rose above the bank.

I am Source.

I am the only person who can create or change the technology.

I am the only one who created a bridge to total freedom.

I know what is wrong with you and I know how to fix it.

I am the only person that can save you from ruin.

I am total cause.

I am the only person who can safeguard your eternity.

I am your senior and posted higher than you on the command channel.

I run you because I have command intention.

Now, Scientologists like to play mini-messiahs also, just like major-mettreya-messiah Ron.

They ASSUME altitude over one another in order to handle and correct each other.

They ASSUME altitude in order to reg each other.

They ASSUME altitude in order to control each other.

They ASSUME altitude in order to enslave each other.

And it is the assumption of altitude that leads them directly into committing human rights atrocities and criminal acts like Fair Game. What do you think the people who tried to destroy Paulette Cooper thought about her? She was a lower life form to be falsely imprisoned (like one might cage an animal) and driven insane and pushed to suicide.

Who could perform such sociopathic viciousness without assuming oneself to be superior.

In looking at this today, I also realized that the entire hoax of Scientology is constructed around another false assumption of altitude. What is "CLEAR" and "OT" but an assumption of altitude that does not in fact exist.

For me, the entire puzzle of Scientology unravels on recognition that the hoax requires the participants to permit and even enjoy these altitude assumptions by others and self.

Without altitude, everyone in Scientology is just a plain old ordinary human being. And...

Nobody pays money to become something they already are.

Wow, HH! You hit the nail on the head! That "altitude" thing still rears its ugly little head within me every now and then, even though I've been out for over 20 years. I still find myself having to watch from falling into those mental patterns again. Scn is the epitome of "lack of humility". Thank you for the insight.

Thanks! I bump into it often in Scientologists in the form of the ever-present subliminal message "You need handling and correction". Scientologists who are "going up the bridge" have that little engine always running in the background for everyone, including themselves.

Humans acting like advanced, "knowing" beings. It's not fun to be around.

I hate to sound heartless and cynical about it but I have also concluded that...

The advanced spiritual state of OPERATING THETAN is not really a state. It is a "knowing" smirk.

Assumption of altitude ... that definitely has to go into my "MAKING BIG MONEY IN THE CULT BUSINESS" TV offer success kit. The question is should that be in the initial $39.95 cult startup kit or should that go into a follow up seminar ... perhaps the $1998.50 intermediate weekend seminar. Of course, one must assume altitude if one is to brainwash, er, em, I mean spiritually condition loyal followers so they may fulfill their role as cash cows, er, em, I mean loyal members that will go out and fun raise $200 or so daily for you on the net 6 days per week.

Why 6 and not 7? Well, it is important to have a day of group chanting. It just is.

So, people are basically good, but not as good as Scientologists. What. Ever.

Zactly!!!!

It still fascinates me that Scientologists pretend to be so far above "homo sapiens".

Imagine that! What celestial altitude they must have to be looking down upon us poor humans from such heights!

They must be really amazing and special beings!! Who are they??? I'd love to know....

Great post!

This is something that the general public really doesn't understand about Scientology - and NEEDS to understand.

I agree that it IS the worst single thing. More so than the criminality, the Fair Game, and all the other. It is worse because this assumption of altitude along with the corrupting of peoples values systems leads to and underlies all the other stuff.

Those lofty, high altitude Scientologists who have "heavily invested" in their "bridge to total freedom" and lack common, everyday finances as a result are not above bumming rides off of wogs when their held-together-by-rubberbands-and-chewing-gum shitmobiles fall apart.

is that people still believe that $camology has answers even after learning what a horrid person Hublard was and the total extent of the deception called $camology.

What's interesting is to contrast this whole altitude thing with other spiritual memes such as humility and humbleness.

Oh, yeah! I forgot! Jesus and the Buddha were just a shade above Clear!

good call hoaxie, One of the verses that still is funny in relation to Scientology/ist altitudinists

The discriminating "kicked in the head" (aberrated) APPLIED pressure philosophy of "downstat" & " upstat" (you can be right~ I already know I am altitude)

Dominance & Money with the IOU IAS

Verse~from illegal contra~scientology propaganda publication lonesome squirrel
"Do they think their pussies dont stink or something"

[addition~ "No" but they think yours does if you dont propitiate]

*~Since the pungent IAS orifices i unfortunately was stalked/ harassed /extorted by in broad daylight were female

seemed appropriate

* apologies for those ex-IAS females on the board that have since landed back on earth with tolerance.

I always found THAT aspect of the behavior of the average Scientologist so distatsteful. That aspect runs from "the top on down". It starts with Hubbard, runs down through the "command channels of management", and works its way into the soggy minds of each Church of Scientology adherent.

The haughty condescension.

The constant attitude of elitism where "ONLY we have the true data of Man, and ONLY we can solve the riddle of Man".

The certainty of how superior we are and how superior our subject is to EVERYTHING else.

The strange and unwarranted, but palpable viewpoint, that WE ARE ABOVE THE DAY-TO-DAY HUMAN BEINGS (wogs).

Personally, I see KSW (and related ideas) as the absolute WORSE thing about Scientology, because they set the stage for the creation of the belief and attitude that Scientology members are somehow FAR "better", FAR "more aware", FAR more "knowing", and FAR more "important" than ANYBODY else on Earth past, present or future.

This is a key component of the Scientology delusion. And many nasty, deceitful and unsavory Scientology behaviors follow directly from THAT attitude.

YES YES YES. One of my fondest memories of my Scientology experience is when as a neebie I spotted a very pompous looking dork wearing a ridiculous shirt strutting into the academy, head held high, slight smirk. "Odd,"
I thought. Much later I found out that this was the highest trained terminal in the org, just back from 3 years of Flag training.

My wog eyes saw the truth. The emperor's new clothes comes to mind.

Hang on a sec. Would someone please explain to this dumb wog why "altitude" is worse than "criminality". There are plenty of people in this world who assume "altitude" and believe that they are better or holier or mightier or richer or in some obscure way superior to the general hoi pilloi. But they, generally speaking, are not criminals, just odd.

No. I say the inherent criminality is the single worst thing about Scientology. The fact that it is criminal, I suggest, attracts those who feel superior and gives them a playground in which to extract maximum satisfaction. Sure, there are the suckers who buy the bullshit and believe in Xenu and all that and probably get to feel special or something, but what binds Scientology, what makes it persist is that it presents the ideal situation for the mendacious venal to prey upon the trusting.

The OP's post is great, especially the "poem" where Hubbard praises himself as the Source. I thought I knew a thing or two about Scientology, but this post was shocking even to me.
To me the worst single thing about Scientology is that, in my opinion, Hubbard was suffering from the mild mental retardation that puts his IQ in the 60 - 70 range. The average IQ score is 100, the highest one is 200.
This topic caused a lot of controversy at the WWP website, but at Xenu.net the discussion was much more subdued. My opponents believe that Hubbard was a conman, and not a madman, while my position is the exact opposite of theirs.

Ah Blippy, I will try to explain. It is the pomposity of the altitude that justifies the criminality. That is how what you call "inherent criminality" is spread by otherwise honest and moral people.

All criminal behavior in the cult is justified or excused based on the importance of the work.

It's possible that the cult attracts those who feel superior. I think it's more likely that it attracts those who need to feel superior. That subtle difference keeps the whole operation afloat. We were naive beyond belief and needed to be needed and important. Not falling down the delusional rabbit hole would burst the bubble and make us feel like mere mortals playing a meaningless and dangerous game.

In my experienced and educated opinion, of course. :coolwink:

You nailed it.

Scientologists don't set out to be criminals. They just do what they have to do for the greatest good yada yada yada. It doesn't even occur to them that certain things are wrong. They are completely blinded by their mission.
