Kate,
I had originally thought that some of the critics/skeptic to Scn'ist grudge match style threads were probably mostly a Scn critical community phenomenon. I now realize they are not. It is a minority POV interfacing with majority POV thing. Similar exchanges can be found on political
forums. Good friends have told me that IT techie forums have major flame wars on them.
People here will tell you that I have, in the past, made mention of tendencies on the part of critics of Scn. You may have seen me say that sort of thing, too. However, I was incorrect. I mean, sometimes certain things happen, conversations and threads can and do have trends, yes- but it's not a Scn/anti Scn/critic's community phenom as I had thought.
It's taking an opinion or stance or making a series of points that is quite different than the more common ones on the particular board, whether it's someone who only wants to eat canned food going onto a fresh food forum or a Republican wandering into a Democrat or Socialist forum.
That's really all that happened here.
I know it seems concentrated and distilled and that it must have felt intense. But I promise you, people here don't have three heads and breathe fire.
Here's an example:
I was on ars as my first critical forum. Taking the minority POV. Plenty of people talked to me and discussed things. But I did not get along with everyone, due to what I describe here. I ended up making a lot of friends. But you know what? I did not like or trust those people at first. In a way, I probably did think of them as having multiple heads and breathing fire.
Yesterday I posted something about love and friendship being more what I want to concentrate on right now (I'm a bit preoccupied about a couple people I'm really fond of and it makes a person think) rather than all this argumentation. So this post is written in the spirit of friendliness toward both you and toward those who've been responding to many of your posts- notwithstanding the fact that I don't agree with some of the comments. As I said before, I respectfully disagree since the way people feel is the way they feel.
How does one get around this when it seems intense? Just keep in mind that nobody here has three heads (though two heads are better than one as the song says) and breathes fire.
I liked your post about the rats.
I am giving you the benefit of the doubt and going on the assumption that you are just you and not some persona cooked up by some OSA idiot somewhere. If you feel like chatting to someone who's, well, terminally chatty, I can be reached at (my first and last name)AT yahoo or in facebook.
