I have no idea what is happening currently....but I had assumed TC was called out to recruit, when the big guns were needed....
I recall back in the late 1990's when that British Soccer Star...Bekum, and his Star Wife....from that English girl group....moved to Los Angeles.....
Newspapers were talking about how they were paling around with TC..and such. And the rumors around Pac Base were that TC was going to get Bekum to join the Cult of Hubbard.
I had thought also that TC had something to do with Will Smith getting into the Cult....but don't have any docs on that.
Thanks for reminding everyone of those major recruit projects that failed miserably.
It also reminds me of Hubbard's list of Hollywood luminaries that he wanted Scientologists to recruit into Scientology. Hubbard listed out the richest and most powerful of course (Walt Disney, Howard Hughes, John Wayne.....) and organized Scientologists to "hunt" their "quarry" and bring them in for auditing.
Naturally like all of Hubbard's grandiose plans (except the one to make money for himself) PROJECT CELEBRITY didn't work.
Likewise, Cruise and Celebrity Center International went after mega-wealthy and popular soccer star David Beckem. FAIL!
And Cruise went after another one of his (then) best friends, billionaire James Packer, son and heir to media tycoon billionaire dad, Kerry Packer. FAIL!
Cruise also worked on Will Smith, who donated millions to start a Scientology School. The school failed. And the Smith-on-the-Bridge project too. FAIL!
There have been other such megawatt celebrities that the church has tried to recruit over the past couple decades such as the Lisa Marie Presley project to get Michael Jackson and his (then) billion dollars into the cult. FAIL!
Come to think of it, I cannot think of even one big celebrity that has been recruited into the cult since Cruise and Travolta, decades ago. Not even one! Can anyone even IMAGINE the degree of difficulty of trying to convince a Hollywood celebrity to:
* Sign up for membership in a Church whose teachings are so secretive you can't even know what they are until years after you join and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars.
* Join a Religion that 99% of the people who once were dedicated to it, blew--never to return.
* Agree to disclose deeply embarrassing personal secrets in "confessionals" which are videotaped AND written down in detail, the records of which belong to the cult and you can never access them or take possession of them.
* Participate in an organization that has been brutally exposed on the internet as an outrageous for-profit fraud.
* Contribute their endorsement to a paramilitary organization whose former members and elite executives have blown the whistle on, revealing wide-scale human rights violations, physical assaults, kidnapping, imprisonment, psychological torture, terrorism and felonious "fair game" black operations that will go to literally any lengths to destroy innocent people for simply revealing the truth about what crimes Scientology is engaged in.
* Spend years and not less than a half million dollars to go "Clear" and "OT", two states that well known (internet and books) to be an absurd hoax dreamed up by Hubbard.
* Expose themselves as celebrities and their reputations and career to all of the worldwide attacks against Scientology in books, magazines, newspapers, television shows, documentaries, feature films and in ever corner of the worldwide internet. What celebrity would be willing to commit career suicide by linking themselves to one of the most hated & ridiculed cults in existence?
Imagine a celebrity that began to openly promote their interest in Scientology and what the thunderous reaction would be of their AGENT and MANAGER and the CASTING DIRECTORS and FILM DIRECTORS and PRODUCERS and STUDIO EXECUTIVES and FILM FINANCIERS and FILM DISTRIBUTORS. Tom Cruise has virtually RUINED the path for other Scientology celebrities to join by ensuring that he acted so insane and cultish and arrogant that nobody in their right mind would want to identify themselves as a member of that ridiculous cult.
Well, I guess we should give Mr. Cruise a huge THANKS! for contributing so very greatly to the cults collapse. In a way, Miscavige was kind of right when he claimed Cruise was the "most dedicated Scientologist" in the world. Because Scientologists are, by default, self-destructive and destructive to their own beloved church. .
