Great article. Good synapsis of its history in the media the last couple of decades.

Tom Cruise Was Supposed to Save Scientology, But Will He Bring About Its Downfall?

The Church of Scientology has awarded just 80 people their coveted Freedom Medal, which recognizes “exemplarycourageanddetermination...forbringinggreaterfreedomtomankind.” But only one person in the Church's 60-year existence has ever won theirFreedomMedalofValoraward: Tom Cruise, the Church’s Golden Boy, who was recruited in the eighties and groomed to be Scientology’s best advertisement. And so it proves ironic that the religion, which has historically been so adept at squashing bad press through lawsuits and intimidation, now finds itself under an onslaught of negative scrutiny — and it's largely thanks to Cruise. Once the Church's most treasured member, he may now prove to be its greatest liability.

I am sure that Cruise will destroy it in the end, you cant just know about abusive actions & walk pass them. Scientology is supposed to handle anything, :smack::smack::smack::smack::smack:

I will vote YES - Tom Cruise has already ruined Scientology's public opinion - he came off as a NUT in 2008 and he looks like a NUT right now. Another failed marriage - Slappy does not realize that most people want to SALVAGE and IMPROVE their marriages - and they don't care about your CULT Organization.

The exact opposite effect occurred by Slappy misusing his power, spending money he did not earn on "wooing" Tom Cruise into the Cult, Lieing to Tom Cult, oops, I mean, Cruise and putting on an "ACADEMY AWARD WINNING PERFORMANCE" with the dog and pony show presentation to Tom Cruise and his cronies - to get them IN.

So, Karma is a bitch - Slappy - you promise and deliver the opposite and now it is coming right back at you! Hip Hip Hoor rah!:happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance:

The other thing I find so ironic is that if it's true that Katie was chosen by Scientology because she was "safe", they really missed the boat. She's done more to draw scrutiny than anyone -- and she did it without saying a word about Scientology or even a negative word about Tom. She's dangerous and classy. I guess that little effort at "good control" backfired.

What, so the Pugilist's best buddy has lost his patina? Honestly, the guy cannot string together any intellible thoughts that would make a good showing. What has he DONE really to advance society in any way? I say stick to what you know - being coverboy and popular actor.
