Thank Feral.
From the Ethics book;
Suppressive acts section
Bringing civil suit against any Scientology organisation or scientologist including the non payment of bills or failure to refund, without first calling the matter to the attention of the IJC and receiving a reply.
This first bit doesn't sound too contentious (at least if it's taken as read,) [IANAL]...but...
Reporting or threatening to report Scientology or Scientologists to civil authorities in an effort to suppress Scientology or Scientologists from practising or receiving standard Scientology.
The first part is very broad ranging given that "civil authorities," (as I understand it) includes pretty much everyone other than the military. It definitely includes law enforcement, coroners, etc.
Don't really know how important it could be, but I reckon it would at least be worth checking the (printed) original to ensure that there's
not a comma here: "...in an effort to suppress Scientology
, or Scientologists from practising or receiving..." as if there is, then it'd dramatically change what's being said.
[Just want to emphasise: I know jack about the law. So take the above with a major pinch of HCL. With that in mind, if I come across other cases where the CofS has exerted pressure on parishioners not to testify/report/etc., are they of any use?]
