If you criticise it as a therapy, they say it's a religion. If you criticise it as a religion, they say it's a therapy. In my opinion it is neither.

It is a status cult fuelled by vanity and greed.

Mehh, I've never been too upset about Scientology calling itself a religion.

-snip-

Fine, :) then don't complain about the abuses it's able to commit under the protective umbrella of being a "Church." You can analyse this till the cows come home. It's a very real issue. People are being hurt.

The Co$ definitely is a status cult fuelled by vanity and greed.

But I don't see the harm in the FZ'ers taking the cafeteria approach to practices here and there that they have found useful. Whether it's a therapy, philosophy, or religion to them, who the hell knows. Probably a little bit of all of this, and none of it exclusively.

See what I mean? Can she swing around now and ask nasty questions about him?

I'd like to think that, but she is always much more tough on nobodies than celebrities. The soft-soap interview questions she used on Tatum O'neil (who looked and acted high) turned my stomach.

Really, Scientology only has two big celebs, TC and JT.

Both of those are embroiled in catastrophic public relations meltdowns and the punch lines for jokes.

If Scientology was only able to recruit 2 movie stars in 62 years that's saying a lot.

And can you imagine how difficult it would be to sell a movie actor NOW????

And as far as fllm makers Scientology has zilch. They actually got rid of Academy Award winning Director/Writer Paul Haggis.

What does that say about the tech?

So how is the Celebrity Operation going really?

Movie Industry
Movie stars: 2 (but both disgraced and sinking fast)
Top movie directors: 0
Top movie writers: 0
Top movie producers: 0
Top cinematographers: 0

How are they doing in the Music Industry?
Beck & Chick Corea sell some CDs, that's about it.

Fashion Industry?
Nothing

Sports?
Nothing

Art World?
Nothing

Novelists?
Nothing

Television?
Kirstie Allie, kinda.
Bart Simpson

Poets?
Nothing

Science?
Nothing

Human Rights?
Nothing

Politics?
Nothing

Now, besides the old handful above, in the past 2 decades what new big celebrity has emerged? I can't even think of one.

Am I missing something?

Very good points HH.
I have been asked in media interviews
"What about ALL THESE BIG MOVIE STARS and Celebrities that join the Church ??....."

And

I have stopped them dead in their tracks.

"What Big movie star as joined the Church in the last 2 decades?
Name one !
Travolta has been a member on and off for 35 years. (he also went through a "recovery.")
Tom Cruise has been a member on and off for for 25 years(he also went through a "recovery.")

Name one !" I demanded aggressively. "These 2 Travolta and Cruise have been peddled out forever....so who else you got ?"
The interviewer would go silent, thinking.
"Career suicide to be a member of a toxic cult" I added.

And I saw the appropriate "cognition".

My wording word vary but above is the gist of it.

Scientology is very much a product of the 50's and has not aged well. Hubbard's books already seem out of date and archaic when given a fresh look. The decline is ireversible and accelerating.

John Travolta and Tom Cruise still have a sizeable fan-base, but not a growing fan-base, and they've both passed the point where they produced their best work. Go out and ask a teenager what they think about John Travolta snd Tom Cruise.

Not much, is what they think.

Scientology is already gone - we're just looking at it's fading after-image scorched into our retinas by the bright flash of it's disappearance.

Well not really, but it's fun to think of it that way :)

All these MLM companies do the same thing.

Do you know what funds were used to put on this nearly half a million dollar party?

Sindy ~~

As is well known David Miscavige reigns supreme on all monies on all bank accounts and can order or sign off on anything regardless of FP (Financial Planning)
When Aussie Lisa Schroer (Lisa Allen) announced it at INT Base, she actually said " Cost is no matter, the costs would be taken care of"
She added

There is a sushi restaurant in Santa Monica (Los Angeles Suburb) that Mr Cruise LOVES.
That Restaurant is to be AIRLIFTED out to FREEWINDS.

The Chefs, the sushi, the whole place re-created at Freewinds.

What is money ?
The Regges can Reg MOAR !
Eat, drink and be Merry for tomorrow you die !

Recent posts reminded me of a video devoted to TC, perhaps shown at some BIG event, like when he got his gong, - would that be in 2006?? He is travelling round the world, meeting (among others) the Emperor or similar of Japan, who looked quite alarmed, and Mr and Mrs Sarkozy in France when NS was Minister of Something.

One aspect of this was TC single-handedly saving billions of people, mainly by chucking books at them as far as I remember.

This is what he refers to when he says he has met important people. He seems to imagine he was equally important.

It was in four parts each 9-10 mins.

Does it still exist? Does anyone have a copy?

It seems relevant to the current discussion.

I looked for this again and didn't find it but I did find a few relevant articles and vids. What Tom was IN FACT doing was publicising his films. So in Japan it was the Samurai thing and he had long floppy hair, and in France when he met Sarkozy it was something else.

The Cult collected every scrap of film from these publicity tours and concocted a story for the faithful, who must have had to sit through almost an hour of the stuff, that Tom Cruise Scientologist was out there saving mankind. His appearance in a country for five minutes was enough to clear it for eternity.

Did you know the Japanese set up Tom Cruise Day, as he had visited Japan more often than any other film star?

Scientology threatens Vanity Fair over Tom Cruise 'auditions' claims

"Citing a mixture of "shoddy journalism" and "religious bigotry," the Church of Scientology is threatening to sue Vanity Fair over a recent article claiming that it helped "audition" young actresses to find a suitable girlfriend for Tom Cruise.

In an eight-page legal letter, the Church has accused the magazine's editor, Graydon Carter, of a "reckless disregard for the truth," complaining that key allegations in his title's story are "false" and "defamatory"."

The Church of Scientology, Vanity Fair and an astonishing lawyer's letter

"It is inconceivable (to the entire world) that Mr. Cruise would have difficulty getting a girlfriend," writes a lawyer for the Church."

"In its most recent issue, Vanity Fair published a piece by Maureen Orth on the Church of Scientology, which encompassed the relationship between its leader, David Miscavige, and its most famous adherent, Tom Cruise.

The magazine put 32 questions to the Church (and if you think that's a lot, remember the New Yorker asked it 1,000 queries for its mega-long profile of Paul Haggis, "The Apostate")."

Tom Cruise and Scientology: Church or Love?

"Is Tom Cruise's love-affair with the Church of Scientology causing him to fail in relationships? Not only may it have caused his divorce from Katie Holmes, but it may have kept him from marrying PenelopeCruz, too.

Tabloid reports have surfaced that say that the Church of Scientology may have driven a wedge in the relationship between Tom and former girlfriend and Vanilla Sky co-star, Penelope Cruz."
