Warning On Purif-Style Megavitamins

Good medical oversight would discourage anyone from even considering this dangerous quackery.

99,9% of toxins and 'drug residue' are not stored in the fat tissue. Especially not the water solulable stuff.

Niacin (nicotinic acid) is not responsible for the 'face flush' when smoking cigarettes - contrary to Hubbard's belief. That would be nicotine. Hubbard wrongly assumed that nicotinic acid (he meant nicotine) would push radiation from inside the body out through the pores - hence the face flush. Listen to the segment where Hubbard warns that not smoking enough will cause lung cancer, it's easy to find online. This glaring mistake is the reason people take dangerous doses of niacin.

Fat tissue is not broken up by excessive sweating, therefore it cannot be replaced by drinking large amounts of cooking oil. Fat cells expand or contract, but a college dropout wouldn't know that, would he?

There's nothing scientific about the purif, it's not beneficial, it's harmful and potentially lethal. Like most of the stuff Hubbard pulled out of his fat ass.

"Niacin is also called nicotinic acid. Given that nicotinic acid sounds similar to nicotine, it's easy to understand why the Linus Pauling Institute has to explain that they are unrelated compounds. While both niacin and nicotine are both found in plants, the similarities end there. Given their comparative chemistry and effects on the body, it's hard to imagine two more different substances."

I've several times on this and other forums stated that the Purif must contain
good medical oversight including liver tests before commencing it.

No doctor would recommend you do a Purification Rundown, even in good health. Because it's dangerous, and it could only cause harm. It's quackery. Just ask Narconon.

Yup. Just another example of poor, sad, mad old L Ron Hubbard trying and failing to understand science, and when that failed, opting for some woo that he could charge big bucks for.

You get into the Purif at your peril... like any part of Dianetics and Scientology, but the danger is more immediate with the bogus sauna treatment.

AFAIK there have been only a very few cases of liver damage from
a purif done outside Narconon. In recent times some have spent months on a purif
which could be dangerous.

With narconon those who have presumably fairly heavy drug histories
could well be at special risk. Also previous hepatitus could be a serious risk.
Is hepatitus often associated with drug use? What percentage of Narconon
patients get severe liver complications or death?
"Only a few cases of liver damage?" Even one case of liver damage is one case too many, you'd have to be an utter moron to take any detoxification or nutritional advice from a physical train wreck like Hubbard.

Do you really want to end up like this?

Uh no. They do not provide trusted information because they sell supplements! They have a vested interest in "debunking" any true study that urges caution on supplement use. Come on...use your thinking cap. It's easy and it's free.

Non-sequitur - use your thinking cap.

Prior to the mid 1990s tobacco company executives were in unison claiming that there was no provable correlation between cigarette smoking and cancer or heart disease.

When others said back then that "They do not provide trusted information because they sell tobacco", were they using a non-sequitur argument? :duh:

More logical fallacy - assuming that if one thing is true then another unrelated thing must also be also be true. And yes they were using a non-sequitur argument even if the tobacco companies were not providing trusted information.

Okay. Keep trusting vitamin seller's "science" in proving their benefits and safety. What's latin for gullible?

Shall we stick with pharmaceutical "science"?

Why Learn about Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR)?
Institute of Medicine, National Academy Press, 2000
Lazarou J et al. JAMA 1998;279(15):1200–1205
Gurwitz JH et al. Am J Med 2000;109(2):87–94

Over 2 MILLION serious ADRs yearly
100,000 DEATHS yearly
ADRs 4th leading cause of death ahead of pulmonary disease, diabetes, AIDS, pneumonia, accidents and automobile deaths
Ambulatory patients ADR rate—unknown
Nursing home patients ADR rate— 350,000 yearly

Very good information. People should learn about whatever they put into their bodies.

OTOH, i oppose the gov't agenda in this bizniss:
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/a...=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20130619

The gov't is mainly concerned with depriving us of anything healthy, and forcing unhealthy things on us. On various pretexts.
Even though there is a fair bit of charlatanism in the vite business, i believe people should have the right to choose for themselves. Educate themselves and choos products they trust.

I DO take supplements regularly: Tocopherols, tocotrienols, astaxanthan, MK-7, krill oil, Co-Q10, and when i don't get sun on my skin, lots of D3.

This is NOT OK !!!!

The FZ'ers deliver the Purif.

The Purif is built around the idea of mega-dosing the body with vitamins.

Is there any health, medical or scientific evidence supporting the benefits of vitamin mega-dosing a client or patient?

To the contrary, there is an ever-growing body of evidence showing the terrible side effects of this practice.

Yet, the FZ'ers follow along behind Ron, endangering the immediate and long-term health of their clients while disregarding all the scientific knowledge gained over the last 35 years.

If some of the FZ'ers have woken up and decided that a Purif Lite, along with counseling helps people, WELL THEN THEY SHOULD FUCKING SAY IT OUT LOUD TO THE WORLD! AND SIMPLY STATE THAT THEY'RE NOT IN THE HABIT OF KILLING PEOPLE'S LIVERS, ETC. AND PROVE IT BY SHOWING THEIR VIT DOSSAGE CHARTS.

But they don't.

So, who are the charlatans?

A particular target of Quackwatch.com by Stephen Barrett has been colloidal silver. Yet in today's Los Angeles Times we find this

"In a study published Wednesday in Science Translational Medicine, researchers found that by adding trace amounts of silver to common antibiotics, the medications became up to 1,000 times more effective in fighting infections in mice.

Also, study authors said they were surprised and excited to find that the silver-antibiotic combo was able to "re-sensitize" bacteria that had developed a resistance to the drugs. It even extended the effectiveness of the commonly used antibiotic vancomycin to a class of bacteria that was previously immune to its effects.

"We went from basically no killing to substantial killing," said senior author James Collins, a professor of microbiology at Boston University."

This is good news. Vancomycin was once the anti biotic of "last resort".
Currently the antibiotic of "last resort" can now be defeated by some bacteria
like MRSA.

In other words anti biotics are dead and deaths may escalate rapidly to
19th century levels.
