What's new

We've got the Inquiry!!!

OK, Alex? I retract all that stuff directed at you earlier. :D

:carryon:

Ain't that the truth through?
And his twisting bizarre attempts to make shit smell like roses make him look out of his depth on this one. (Inquiry)
Guess he'll just have to get used to a new level of futility.

Sure. But if you harm anyone you should be arrested and ajudictaed.

So what religious beliefs would you ban? And what beliefs are yours? Please defend them. No, wait don't bother, I think they are absurd and should be sanctioned. I see no tangible benefit to society from them. Your minority view doesnt matter.

I think this is our point of agreement Alex.

I would personally ban *no* beliefs.

When "beliefs" result in illegal acts, then justice is indicated.

So who or what defines a Church as a vehicle for religion, as opposed to a vehicle for a criminal organization using religious cloaking to operate above the law? Ya don't reckon that there should be any criteria to determine this?

The laws that protect people, laws against murder, fraud, kidnapping, battery still apply. The "cloak of religion" should not shield that. And doesn't. See the Catholic church. Horrific abuses through out history, recent revelations of pedophilia...I don't see them being given a pass on it. Well not too much, maybe a bit. But that is not right.

That aside, I think it sucks that any Church has the right or freedom to operate above the law, and in this country they have been permitted to......The powers that be have been too wary about opening a can of worms and have avoided it for too long. The mere fact that it is being looked at is a good thing. The fact that the CofS's activity will be looked at and addressed at the same time, is a very good thing.

Why is it that if there are all these crimes by the CoS in your country, that your judiciary and your law enforcement has failed to address them? Why isn't X passionate about reform of your countries justice system? That would seem to be a saner target! I don't dispute that the current Church of Scientology is an abomination and perversion of all the ideals it was founded on. But to drag all the church's and charities under the umbrella of some government bureaucracy to determine the value of them is absurd. What if some fundy christian comes into power? Or a radical Muslim? Yes I know, that will never happen, you will not stand for it. Good luck with that.

Yes it is a good thing that the church will face scrutiny. It is a bad thing that the way that happens will give more power and resources to the idiot that leads it, and make it more difficult for people still in to see the light.

It was though Carmel, quite a feat on the part of you and your friends to do what you did. You guys may not be scienos, but you are ot.

AlphOhms church (Church of the Holy Rehabilitation Project Force) just caused me to be disconnected from my family and friends. Please advise me what to tell the police. What charges should he be arrested on?

OK.

Said enough.

Offended too many, although that was not my intent.

I get so focused and passionate about things that are just conceptual.

It will be fun to watch this play out.

I hope it results in reform of the church, although I am cynically not optimistic.

Kuddos to those who worked so hard, and got their target. I have come to realize that that should be acknowledged.

be well and happy.

STFU!

What are your crimes?

My crime is that I expressed disagreement with the Church of the Holy Rehabilitation Project Force and with yourself the founder. In exchange I got disconnected from all my family and friends after I was the ones who brought them into your "church". :bigcry:

My sincere apologies.

I had *no idea* that my policy would result in such grief.

What should be done to make things "better"?

Thank-you db. But I was just playing with Alphohms. I have no family I'm disconnected from. I was just trying to make a point to Alex (that he ignored) that there are certain types of ways that the CoS will commonly abuse people and ruin their lives, and they are not the type of things you can pick up the phone and call the police about.

Why is it that if there are all these crimes by the CoS in your country, that your judiciary and your law enforcement has failed to address them?
Why they haven't in the past, is beyond me. Prior to getting Xen's support, we contacted every and any authority including police about the crimes and abuses, but our complaints fell on deaf ears. We were given the run around... Authority A said "oh sorry, not under our jurisdiction, try B". B said, the same and suggested we try C. C said the same and suggested we try A. The reason we got the run around? The CofS was a "church", and they just didn't wanna go there. When it came to the police, they didn't wanna go there, and needed "proof". How can one individual telling the truth seem credible when for each one there are a dozen churchies willing to lie.

Why isn't X passionate about reform of your countries justice system?
Rightly or wrongly Church's have had protection in this country. For whatever reason the "justice system" hasn't seem to have applied to churches, and what is happening now is something which finally address this issue and/or open doors so it will be addressed.

That aside though, Xen is interested in prevention rather than cure. Why let it happen when inevitably there will always be a mess to clean up. There are so many damn laws in this country, preventing so much. How come no laws preventing inevitable harm by something such as the CofS?

Some Church's have operated above the law. That's gotta change. What's happening now will be putting this issue on the table and, aside from the issue with the CofS, it's about time.

Oh, Ok. It all came back to the topic of the inquiry itself, out of the fuzz of Alex's attempted confusions. - so that's good.

I am a staunch libertarian. The only impediment is that I realize that sufficient personal responsibility does not exist to live in that ideal and free state.

If there is one system of government GUARANTEED not to work in a populous industrialized state it is "libertarian". Non-functioning government is the effective definition of the term.

We in the western world are currently digging ourselves out from the international mess left behind by an administration that didn't believe in intefering in certain "privileged" segments of the society. :omg:

Government is determining the validity of religion by the act of deciding what is and is not religion.

No, government is determining the validity of tax exempt status of a given institution, without regard to its religious character but based on its potential to BENEFIT the SOCIETY as a WHOLE.

Tax exempt status is not a condition reserved exclusively to RELIGIONS. Nor is it a natural right accruing to any institution which claims a religious status.

Point of fact RELIGIONS under law DO NOT QUALIFY for tax exempt status. Some RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS may according to whether they fulfill legal requirements based on LOCAL SECULAR LAW.

As I said to someone else earlier today, you would do better to understand the issue actually under discussion before troubling to offer your opinion on the matter. :whistling:
