What is an ex scientologist?

jeff

yeah you are right. When I think about it, he was more interested in being friends, so I suppose I must blame myself for the Richmond trip. But I was quite green at that point and has all these hopes spinning in my head. I will never get over the degree of uncomfortableness I had in that Richmond office however.

Me thinks - that you very very fortunate to have have had Jeff as your reg---any one of the other Div 2 regges at that time would of "done untold" damage to whatever you had or what any of your relatives had or what any of your friends had or whatever any name you gave them had--your bell would have been rung. And "yes" uncomfortableness was the hallmark on any reg cycle and I'm sorry you had to go through that awful feeling but "you got off very easy".

Don't you know I know it!! I look at my life and it has been a series of incredible good luck. It hurts me that so many have had to suffer this degradation...and why every time I have stopped it from happening it is with the greatest pleasure. I have run into kids who have told me about the "personality assessment," totally upset because they thought they were really messed up. When I explain what would happen if they took the next step, the feeling of relief is overpowering. It has made my life seem worthwhile to save people in this way.

One whom I saved was my very own son.

EX

I never thought of or called myself an Ex Scn until I found this site. It is a label that reached out to me when I had been away from any Scn activity for 36 years. I think this site is very well named and would catch the attention of any person leaving or considering leaving The CoS.
I still do not consider myself an Ex Scn. Maybe I was never a SCNst, though I completed many courses and reahed OT1.

I have been wondering about this for a while.

I presume most of you consider yourselves "exes" (excluding those who were never in) considering you post here, but what exactly is an "ex"?

It seems to be a loose term because we have all sorts of people here. I'd like to get some sort of an idea of what defines an ex (if possible).

Maybe you don't consider yourself an ex but post here anyway - which is fine too.

What are your ideas on this?

I'm an "ex"!

One who has done cos services or been on staff and who no longer is doing these things - nor- has any desire or plans to do more than they already have. Someone who is finished with the cos. No more! Finished! Toasted! Over that!Bye-by! Gone!

And no freezone involvement either?

Nope

FZ is ex scientology because they do not belong to the church. Leaving the church is being an ex unless you are "offlines" It depends what your intention is.

I think being an ex is purely personal. There are those who never experienced anything and say it was all made up and fantasy. There are those who feel DM hijacked the church and is destroying it. There are those who found the practice to be dark and dangerous. There are those who disagree with the church but still practice. There are those who drilled so much that the practice is part of them and find it hard to fit in.

I also did not think of myself in the term ex until I found this site. Prior to this I was searching for unanswered questions about some experiences I had while in scientology and I found the true bio of LRH, which are excerpts from the bio's of other's he was associated with. Feeling very betrayed and learning about the disgusting things LRH did and practiced I declared "that's it, its over, no more" I said this to my husband and I know that is the day I became an ex. Prior to that I was off lines for a very long time.

Just posting on this site means your an ex because it is grounds for declare and you are saying go ahead, I don't care.

I think it is very important to understand we are all different and to not be so hostile when you disagree with another ex.

Sure (note the bold). But I think that I disagree with you. And I am not being hostile at all.

Please answer this question (an analogy):
What is an ex-Christian?

IOW, if a person left the Roman Catholic Church and became, say, a Presbytarian would that mean that they became an ex-Christian?

I think an ex is someone who was a C of S scientologist and who now is not one at all or a FZ er.

I don't think you can be an Ex unless you have been pro scientlogy at one point.

In fact I don't really think you should be on here unless you have been in.

I think there are other sites like "whywe protest and clambake and xenu" for protesters who have never been in.

But then again it doesn't matter much as I can pick and choose what I read.
I understand that people don't want me here as a FZer but at least there is no disconnection policy or fair game.

"Squirrels" (for want of a better word) still follow these Hubbard teachings, yet don't follow Hubbard teachings in other areas. They pick & chose. Yet they still call themselves Scientologists. Per the founders own definition they are NOT Scientologists. Maybe they are rejecting LRH's definition of his own religion.

And yet many of them claim to be "in com" with Hubbard, a part of an elite enlightened cabal from the "Galactic Patrol", here to lift Teegiac/Blito-P3/what ever made up crap they're calling it this week, out of the prison darkness and into the light of Scientology. Yet they're still happy to beat the shit out of their children. What a croc.

(Yeah, I'm having a bad day.)

ex-1
a prefix meaning “out of,” “from,” and hence “utterly,” “thoroughly,” and sometimes imparting a privative or negative force or indicating a former title, status, etc.; freely used as an English formative: exstipulate; exterritorial; ex-president (former president); ex-member; ex-wife.

Ex.
Exodus.

To the degree that one has parted ways with or no longer participates in something they are an EX-Whatever.

Leaving the cos means one is an Ex-Church member.

Parting ways with sci think, practice and sci philosophy would make an Ex-sci. In short one no longer performs the function or duties of a previously held position.

Sci teaches that other schools of thought and science are based on fallacies, yet 'what is true for you is true'; both of these concepts railroad one's thinking process, often causing members that attempt to part ways to experience confusion and render them incapable of 'thinking outside of the box'... making it necessary to try an discern what an EX means. It's pretty cut and dry really.

I am, per it's absolute definition, an Ex-Scilon.

I left the COS. I don't use sci lingo to describe anything I do, perceive or think. Whatever I may have learned, experienced or found enhancement from in sci exists without sci and can be understood without sci or it's philosophy. I choose freedom and commune with the common man.

Thank you--your comments certainly explain what you are.

Not sure why you wrote this. Was that a dig?

(I'm the same person who posted the story about the butterfly that you said you liked.)

Or perhaps you're referring to my many posts criticizing CofS and Hubbard. If so, great.

Like any ex, you know, like an ex-spouse, ex-patriot, ex-scientologist. Something you had or did that you had to get over. Almost like a disease. :eyeroll:
