Actually, Emma, it was possible; difficult, but it could be done. But as a staff/SO member, you had to work at it.
When I joined the SO in 1971, I was not on the bridge. All I had done besides Book One auditing was a Comm Cs & HQS course. But when I joined the SO, I was told that we all get up the bridge; after all, we were SO members - Da Da! And, I really believed that, and I wanted my bridge and I was going to get it. So I did.
Within a year I was on the SOLO Course. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, I believe that it was Vinaire who was working at ASHO at the time, who I got to put all my folders together and take them over to AOLA for me.
