Re: I saw it differently.

Thanks, Reuben! I couldn't get the my posts button to work on a computer I was using...frusterating! :melodramatic: It was hard to find all the threads I was posting on from where I could get to. Kinda got a little lost for a while there. I can't explain it other than the buttons got compressed and overlapped on the screen, and I couldn't push the my posts button...(it was a little screen).

I think I can help with parts of this...I have trouble using computers too...have learned everything I know by the bumble around and learn method. It's not pretty but it works o.k. for me, mostly.

To make a new paragraph, I actually just make a line break (add more white space).

Like I just did up there. It does help to break up a big bank of text and make it easier on the eyes. Reuben, like Gadfly, I also want people to read what you have to say, it's important! You've got a lot of good stuff to share with us.

I don't know if you are using adaptive technology, like Dragon naturally speaking, or just typing on a keyboard. But to make a line break like I just showed, (adding a line of white space which works for me like a new paragraph), just hit enter (the Enter button) twice after you finish a sentence.

That drops whatever you are typing down two lines. The enter button is usually the long or bigger one on the very right hand side of all the letter keys, in the middle, or nearby.

Don't leave a lot of white space because people will be annoyed that they have to scroll down too often to read what you write, and will give up and go away!

I wonder if your computer has a mouse or not. If it is a laptop, using the mouse like controls there are sometimes very difficult for me. My fingers don't always work right. Otherwise, if it is a mouse that you put your whole hand over, plugged into the computer with a cord, then I can help you with learning how to use the mouse to control the cursor.

Sometimes it takes people time to respond to individual comm here. I know it's hard to wait when you are eager to talk with people. I know I am not on the computer every day, others are also busy with things like work, school, travel, family life, etc. I find it really helps me to be patient with people, and give them the benefit of the doubt when I don't hear from them for awhile, or if something seems amiss, hard as it is to do so sometimes. :p

As for writing to Oprah, well that's a good idea. I think she was going to put an email address up on her website as she quit her show. Maybe I'll mosey over and check it out. Posting links to things is really helpful for me, too, and I appreciate folks who take the time to do so.

Oprah has not been very responsive to Scientology outpoints, due to currying favor with her Scion celeb friends. However, since this recent arrest in Australia of a COS executive who covered up child molestation for the COS, maybe that will shake her up/wake her up some more. I sure hope so. :duh:

She sure is in a good position to help out journalistically with exposing the truth about the cult of Scientology.

Be back if I find a good link or email for her. :)
Thanks sweetness. I tried going on Oprah's site, you have to log in, then when you've done that you have to log in again and again and forever after. That makes you give up, which I guess is what she wants. Oh well. I have a desktop and a mouse. GOD! What a mistake writing to Roger B. I hope he just deletes my PM and forgets me. By the way I looked up other acks I got on my posts from TGI. They were all snot. But so what? Yours, Guanolocos, Gadfly's and many others are all theta. With very very few negative, and those that criticize are usually constructive.
Thanks for the info on the enter button. Got it. All the best, Reuben

You're really not winning any friends . . . .

I eventually got to my PM traffic . . . . and your long, long, no paragraph "thing" was in there as a discourse on an experience "that
you wanted to tell me about" . . . it was sent on the 27th . . . today is the 30th . . . . so you think you are so important that I should drop everything to cater to you?

You've got to be jocking . . . you're way out of line!

It didn't even ask for any help or any advice . . . . just a discourse on an experience . . . . so even if I'd seen it before today . . . what am I supposed to do with it?

You're new on ESMB . . . you've probably no idea how much time I spend helping people who can be helped, and who are intelligent enough to reveal they can be helped and ask for it . . . this apart from PM and email traffic.

Folks who are too lazy to learn how to use a keyboard or actually ask for specific help that can be rendered, or can't be bothered to read instruction information, really are not worth spending time on for they are not truly into upgrading but instead being a problem for others to solve.

Personally I don't let myself get suckered into that.

That's it.

I got lost!

Well, I give up, I got totally sucked into the Oprah website...good Lord, there is a lot to see and do there. What a timesink! But some fun stuff there. :)

I really tried but did not find any simple way to send a letter, like via snail mail (good old US postal system) or even email except through a form, and you were right, you had to join up with here system to communicate. :confused2:

Oh well, maybe there will be a better chance to communicate in the future with Lisa Ling or someone else who is connected with her OWN network.

Meanwhile, just keep reading and posting your stories and thoughts here. I still think you might make a sterling Blogger, Reuben, once you get just a little more experience under your belt.

Thank you Mr. Nobody, maybe I need to set up things better myself...

It's really nice to have friends who can explain things and be helpful, I really appreciate it!

Maybe Reuben's smilies aren't showing... when they are, you can just click on them and they will go wherever the cursor is blinking.

PS. Well, Roger, given all that, just delete his post and forget about it as he has indicated. He will learn, or he won't (I'm betting he will rise to the occasion of learning whatever he needs to learn to be able to communicate well with us here) he's still just a Newbie.

I think Roger gets a lot of mail Reuben, so there is a lot of traffic on his lines.

Communications isn't always instantaneous or free flowing here Reuben...sometimes there are stops and starts and skips, etc. Do allow plenty of time for people to respond to your emails or pms, or even on a thread... you can have lots of different terminals here Buddy, but you have to kind of feel them out and find them for yourself...nothing is programmed in here. :)

So you made a reach that wasn't so welcome or well received, live and learn from it, and try to let go of any resentment... that has happened to all of us here at once time or another, even when we're dripping theta all over the place. Reach again, I say. Most of us find our way around here comfortably eventually, and I think you will, too!

Geez, another reason I left Scientology is because I REFUSE to "do drama".

And now, here on ESMB, more drama . . . . . :confused2:

Getting Reuben outfitted with an Avatar!

:console: for Gadfly!

Hey, I forgot I was gonna ask, what kind of an Avatar would you like, Reuben? It's basically just a picture of something, sometimes with a saying.

I didn't have one for the longest time until somebody else made one just the right size and posted the link for me to copy into my profile command.

I thought I was never gonna get an avatar for awhile there...

So let's make a fun game out of locating you an avatar, o.k.? Maybe I will host a contest on a thread...

Give us some ideas of things you might like to see following you around, something that would make you smile or feel good, or make a statement that you wish to make to the world, etc. It can even be a picture of you or a pet, etc.

(There is a way to have more than one, one morphs into another, or they rotate like in a slide show, but I don't know how to do that, so you don't have to have just one. And people do change them from time to time)

Did you see the examples of them I posted for you to look at on another thread?

I'll go see if I can post a link to it...

Here it is: http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthre...sology-from-1970-to-1983.&p=578481#post578481

Hey Gad, great to hear from you...as always. Some people just don't click (left or right) with others. I wasn't conciliated by the face in the Avatar, but I wouldn't let that be my judge. And someone very nice suggested him, as being 'magic'. Yeah right, so was the Wicked Witch of the West...and she was better looking, especially when wet.

He reminds me of a description in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. ....'The nothingness, yet the noise. The insipidity yet the self-importance' Trucking along. Isn't Sweetness and Light a treasure? And so are you. best, Reuben.

O.K. Reuben, here you go...that's what I found! Tell me which ones you like the best and let's see if we can make it work, sizewise. Maybe pick a favorite and a runner up, just to give us more to work with.

Personally, I was quite impressed with the theory of KRs that Hubbard put forward in that Knowledge Report PL. The idea of the goals and mores of a true group being forwarded by each group member and not left to some senior made a whole lot of sense to me.

Example, in a family, if one of the kids sets light to the garden shed and nearly burns the house down, is another one of the kids who saw it happen "a snitch" and to be looked down on because he/she admits to the parents what happened?

As I see it, the problem is not with the theory of the system, but with sociopaths making use of such a system, and of course I include Hubbard in that category. I imagine the system was abused from the outset (being charitable and taking it at face value, so "abuse" means not use it as written). I wonder if it could ever work in practice in any other than a small group of relatively sane people.

Paul

I fagree , i presume nasa uses some form of reporting technique to identify potential hazards. With CoS condition always in emergency, there is little attention paid to most outness from KRs, i cant see them ever working in unison with the brown on white policy in CoS.any policy that makes money to handle the EDs survival is pushed, anything handled beyond that is a bonus, as long as it doesnt cost money.

You guys have been very helpful to Reuben.
That's super.
As for me, I've been posting for years. I do not know how to post an Avatar, I do not know how to cut and paste, nor anything else, really, except to post.
Yet, I am read by those who are interested.

To say that a one who will not learn computer skills is not worth bothering with is totally unkind. I see that Paul thought that my post introducing the Board to Dr Newton was acceptable, even tho' there was no expertise involved in the posting of it.

I am very old, chronologically speaking, and computers are not intuitive for me. I also never learned to type. The whole "clerk thing" is anathema to me.

If you had rather no one posts here except those who know how to use all the buttons and prompts and stuff, then I will pack 'em up and leave your fine presence.

What say you?

I say all the nice bells and whistles are nice to have - they make reading more fun and entertaining - but what really counts, is the message; and that message can easily get transmitted without all that.

ps:
At least you know how to use paragraphs, that's good enough for me.

Dear Wonderful One, you are really something else. Okay 2.A. is my first choice 6. my second these, and 2 (which is the same carriage as 2.A. are the only Clarence Rockaways. 3 and 4, the same carriage is a Germantown...the bottom rear quarter is on a level with the bottom of the door. 1, 1.A and 5. all the same carriage is a standard Rockaway, although a very handsome one. If I get this I'll be over the moon, as the Brits say. love, Reuben

Ah, Challenge, you don't know it but the two of us are living under the same tent...:coolwink: We might even be peas in a pod!

I'm with Mr. Nobody, the message is more important than the method, form should serve function. But I'm very grateful for everyone who has helped me. I'd be off the board by now if it wasn't for the kindness and helpfulness of good people here, many of whom are no longer here, so it's kind of a pay it forward thing for me. :)

Challenge, would you like an avatar? It would be my pleasure to help you find one that would be pleasing to you and would "represent", as the kids say.

Reuben's is in process, as you can see. (Keep your fingers crossed, everybody!) :melodramatic:

Thank you Paul, for finding an address for Oprah, you are really a whiz at this online research stuff!

I'm outta time at present but will be back as soon as I can. :)

Challenge and I and everyone else for that matter, are so lucky to know so giving a being as you, Sweetness. Don't let your time constraints bring on a guilt trip. We'll be here to receive and send comm to you when you can receive and send it back. Old people know how to wait. Challenge, I'm old too. Do you remember when baby strollers were called Taylor Tots? Hey, when I came alone Moby Dick was a minnow! Sweetness, I'm glad you liked my PM and you may be right about whose hand it was. Talk at you later. love, Reuben
