Re: Me. too!

Challenge and I and everyone else for that matter, are so lucky to know so giving a being as you, Sweetness. Don't let your time constraints bring on a guilt trip. We'll be here to receive and send comm to you when you can receive and send it back. Old people know how to wait. Challenge, I'm old too. Do you remember when baby strollers were called Taylor Tots? Hey, when I came alone Moby Dick was a minnow! Sweetness, I'm glad you liked my PM and you may be right about whose hand it was. Talk at you later. love, Reuben

Reuben, you might like my 80th b'day pics on FB. My FB account is Jana Moreillon, if you'd care to look at these pics from Belize, which we took in February.

Sweetness and Light, you look , too, if you care to. I was so surprised at how easily I discovered how to post pics to FB.

I am afraid to press buttons. Not only that, but I might discover how to do something today, and tomorrow I won't remember and will have to start all over again.

If you could tell me how to move my pic from FB to ESMB, that would be too kewl!

BTW, I have posted acoupla thangs about the 1950's on the 1970 in D.C. thread if you are interested in those days.

I'd love to see your pics, but alas Facebook is impossible for me. I got on once to get in touch with an old acquaintance in New Jersey, and since then I've shut down on the thing. I tried recently, and when they start in with what's your username, and password, and they don't except either, and send me to some place to get them, I just shut down. That's the way it is. Pooks won't trade emails with me unless it's Facebook. So there aren't any trades. Sorry. Put them on ESMB and I'll see them. By the way you're twelve years older than I am. Reuben P.S. D.C. in the 50's? Did you know Larry Michel and Carolyn Brown Michel?

I don't recall those names, Reuben. I possibly would recognise faces.

I recall you from early 80's, I think. Were you a DJ or announcer or otherwise employed by a Radio Station? In Colorado?

Yes Chlng, I was. I'm ashamed because it promoted Scn. It was out of the Scn. mission founded by Mike Goldstein. John Galusha came in later. He was my Dianetics instructor. The station was in Littleton. There was another radio show late at night that I hosted, playing 'ugh' LRH tapes. What an overt I committed on Colorado. It ended with the Beatles singing Here Comes the Sun. Should have been There goes the Sociopath. Reuben.

Reuben, it's CHLNG (for "Challenge"), but the lower case "L" doesn't always look very different to a lower case "I."

Paul
Thanks Paul. I corrected my mistake. I don't think you're really a dulloldfart. Even living around Newcastle doesn't qualify you; as you probably can speak geordie. The Rag Nymph is a good Catherine Cookson book, she was a native of Jarrow? though it takes place near Manchester. best, Reuben

Hooray for avatars!

What the heck is Geordie? :confused2: Inspeak for some group?

Yea! We got Reuben's avatar up and running, so to speak.

Challenge, I'm afraid to press buttons too!

I'm not on facebook, but have friends who are, so maybe I can look at it one day.

I'll bet that if you can post a pic on facebook that you can add your avatar here. The hard part is re-sizing it, if needed.

I think Paul is on facebook, maybe he could help you with an avatar picture...

Easy peasy . . .

Reuben, you might like my 80th b'day pics on FB. My FB account is Jana Moreillon, if you'd care to look at these pics from Belize, which we took in February.

There are multiple ways of placing pix on ESMB. Perhaps the simplest is using the attachment feature in the message editor. My preferred method is to use http://www.flickr.com/ to "host" the pictures and, from there, I can link them to multiple sites as and when I chose. To link them here, you just get the address for the photo and then click the "Insert Image" icon and paste it into the pop-up then its . . . hey presto!

. . . I would be rapt to be floating down a river on an inner tube for my 80th!! WTG, Challenge - rock on, girl.

Great Picture! :)

Ummm, were there crocodillios in that river? Water looks a little murky to me. And why the headlamps? Tunnels, caves???

Big happy grins, so looks like it was fun.

I hope Challenge will chose the picture she likes for an avatar and asks for help in uploading (downloading?) it if she needs it.

(Pssst!!! Happy Birthday, and 80 is not that old. Go for 100!)

Thanks, Finny!

That picture wsa taken just as we started the 71/2 mile float through a crystal cave system. We 'de-barked' from our rafts a few times to hike into passages leading into other parts of the cave. It was the adventure of a lifetime!

The day after the spelunking trip we hiked to some Mayan ruins in the Belize jungle.

After 5 days in our treehouse at Ian Anderson's Cave Branch Resort, we dropped down to Maya Beach and spent a week lying in hammocks, swimming, and snorkeling in the Caribbean.

I can hardly wait to go back, but a cruise to Alaska comes later this month. Spouse's choice.

I'm so glad you liked my pix.

Big hugs .

Thanks, Infinite.

Rafting thru the caves was a treat. There was quite a lot of hiking to get to the river near to the cave entrance. The pic that you posted was taken just as we were about to let go the tree branch and start pulling against the current into the caves.

The Maya thought that these caves were the entrance to the Underworld. While we were exploring in there, we saw some ancient human bones and some pottery shards that were said to be remnants of Mayan occupation.

There is no electricity in the caves, and no outside light penetrates, so we were wearing headlamps thruoutthe tubing trip. The light that you see in some of the cave formations is reflection from our headlamps on the crystal of the caves.

Hiking thru the Belize jungle to the ruins was quite a bit harder.
But altogether, it was an adventure that I'll never forget.
As you can see, I got an Avatar up. Hip Hip!!

Here is some interesting history that some may or may not already know.

As with so many things in Scientology, the "history" and "theory" of the activity is FAR different than how such things came to be used in the Church of Scientology.

snip

Anyways, the ideas of "taking care of each other to the better the survival of ones fellows" morphed into "writing KRs on each other" as a way to "correct" ones "teammates" and "help them remain at the top of their game". Very strange how THAT sort of sensible notion changed into an almost Nazi-esque form of covert spying and reporting where even children "expose the faults of ones parents" (i.e. the "Hitler Youth").

Scientology can be SO VERY WEIRD, because too often some idea DOES SORT OF "make sense", at least on some level and in some context, but when taken out of the original context and placed within the framework of the Scientology organization, it gets downright INSANE!

Something to consider. KRs in Scientology, whatever the source or justification are nothing unusual from this perspective; Scientology Operates As A Cult.

Other- and self-monitoring for cult-defined deviant behaviour is very common in cults. Each cult will come up with a justification, but the end behaviour is the same.

Scientology is in no way particularly special... it does what all cults do. Scientology just happens to be Self-Help/SciFi flavored.

I think ex-scientologists might find it beneficial to read up on cult behaviour, because they might realise that while the philosopical bases change, the underlying form is pretty much the same for them all.

Warm Fuzzy for all my friends here and the lurkers

Here's a warm fuzzy for everyone who has been affected by Scientology :happydance:

Here's a wonderful post from our dear departed Alan W. I just loved it.:

"Love means.......
Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is so worth it. Touching words from the mouth of babies.

What does Love mean?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?"

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore.

So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."

Rebecca- age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.

You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."

Billy - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."

Karl - age 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."

Chrissy - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."

Terri - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."

Danny - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.

My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss"

Emily - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."

Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,"

Nikka - age 6

(we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."

Noelle - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well."

Tommy - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.

He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore."

Cindy - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"My mommy loves me more than anybody

You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night."

Clare - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken."

Elaine-age 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford."

Chris - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day"

Mary Ann - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."

Lauren - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." (what an image)

Karen - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross."

Mark - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."

Jessica - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,

"Nothing, I just helped him cry"

Hi Sweetness. I don't know how I missed your post. Natives of Newcastle upon Tyne, the main town in north-east England are called Geordies. They speak a dialect that even other Brits from the north can't understand. Do you recall that Tangelo or whatever they're called potato chip commercial? Two Geordies were talking. Who knew? Reuben, and thanks again for the Avatar. Do you think it looks smart and original?. I do.

Coupla good looking avatars!

Yes, Reuben, your avatar looks great! Like you could step right into it for a ride, with a shiny horse to pull you along...clip clopping. :)

Challenge's Avatar is a great picture...her spirit and personality come through. Very casual and spontaneous, I like it!

Wonder if there is anybody else who needs some help with getting an avatar? Maybe we should hang out a shingle!

Ah, thanks for the geordie explanation. I looked it up, and didn't get much that explained what it was. But that explains some old Monty Python sketches that I couldn't understand!!! Dialects are fun!

Like the ale, though! :coolwink:

Yep. That's us, Reuben. The Victorian on Carroll Ave was a beautiful work of art. I still dream of it. There was a lot of filming done there. I still see it in the series Charmed, and see it in other films. Some bank was even using a pic of it on their promo.
Bloody COS! I'd have left them alone had they not come after me with their P.I.s and slimey lawyers.

We bought a house up in Elysian Heights, so far up a hill that I thought that Scn'ists had no cars that could get up there. Hahaha. It also had a high cement wall completely protecting it from the street. We installed cameras and motion detectors and all that BS. Some "church", eh?

We have been in Seattle Metro for about 20 years, and I miss all my friends in LA, and I rilly miss the sunny weather. The last few times that I have visited, I have gotten sinus infections from the pollution that hangs over the LA basin. I don't miss that nor the constant motion of earthquakes.

Hope you are doing and feeling well.
