Why Did Aftermath Never Do an Episode on the Death of Kyle Brennan?

Tom Brennan; A weapon and bullet list of contradictory statements

"1) The Taurus .357 found at the crime scene had four unfired mag bullets and one casing in the chamber. Five more rounds were found in one of Kyle’s pockets. Interestingly, no fingerprints or ridge details were found on either the weapon or any of the cartridges including those in his pocket—not even Kyle’s fingerprints.

2) The box of ammunition Brennan claimed he’d purchased at Fowler’s was not found at the crime scene. Furthermore, the Heckler & Koch rented at Fowler’s is a .45 caliber handgun while the weapon that supposedly killed Kyle, the Taurus, is a .357 caliber revolver—the ammunition is not interchangeable. If there was any leftover ammunition from the range it could not have been used in the Taurus. (And Kyle could not have purchased the ammunition himself because he was only twenty at the time of his death. In Florida you have to be twenty-one.)

3) The green bag that Brennan stated he’d stored the Taurus .357 in was not retrieved at the crime scene by the police—it never showed up as evidence.

4) Also missing is the bullet that killed Kyle. Officer Yuen stated in his deposition that the medical examiners searched the Brennan apartment for it, but never found it.|

5) Kyle’s Virginia family was initially told by Detective Stephen Bohling that a gunshot residue (or GSR) test was never done on Kyle’s hands. This turned out to be a lie. A GSR test was performed at the crime scene by forensic investigator Jennifer McCabe—but Bohling himself blocked the GSR information retrieved from being processed.

It is a travesty of justice that Kyle's death was not properly investigated.

I agree that there are some very suspicious aspects to the circumstances and the investigation.
Thanks for sticking with it, P&B.

I have to admit that I'd heard about Kyle's case for years as an Ex. And every time I heard about it, the same conclusions I'd made years earlier kept popping into my head: "A kid, severely depressed, scientologist father finds his meds and takes them away, kid kills himself. Tragic. But what are you gonna do?"

But the facts show that's not what happened - AT ALL.

And I am ashamed to say that until I saw Denise Miscavige's deposition here, and then heard that 1 hour interview with Rick and Victoria Britton, I did not know ANYTHING about the death of Kyle Brennan.

The meds do not have anything to do with this case!

Until I watched the deposition and listened to the Interview, I also concluded it was tragically suicide. However the facts presented tell a different story. I wish the 2 interviews that Victoria gave A&E (regarding the evidence surrounding Kyle's death, which didn't add up) had been aired.

Perhaps now as Mike Rinder admitted on the finale of Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath and on his blog, he will no longer be limited to what he can and cannot say about such stories. Hopefully finally he will be able to shed some light (drawing from his 22 year experience as CO OSA) on the circumstances and investigation surrounding the Feb 2007 death of Kyle Brennan.

Since per Tony Ortega's blog, Mike Rinder and Tommy Davis were on a fair game project against John Sweeney (as directed by DM via Lou text messages) in Clearwater around March 2007, Mike most likely would have also known about the investigation and PR
flap involving Denise Miscavige.

I agree he might have. I only know that he has said in videos, etc that he was removed from The Hole, flown to London to handle John Sweeney.
Mike has stated it was repeating the lies of Scientology that caused him to leave. In March 2007.

Sweeney verified that on a S1 Aftermath episode.

Have you read John Sweeneys book, "The Church of Fear?"

Rinder did leave from London but not in March, it was later in June 2007. Perhaps you have your dates and events mixed up.

According to Tony Ortega, the text message correspondence between Lou/DM (which were submitted as evidence in a sworn affidavit, in the Monique case and given to the FBI ) placed Mike and Tommy Davis in Clearwater Florida on March 18th, 2007 and maybe before.
Mike was not in the hole at that time, as some people think.

Kyle died on Feb , 16th 2007.

From Tony Ortega's Blog:

"So here’s what transpired between Rinder, Davis, and Miscavige — for clarity, we’ve marked texts from “Lou” as “Lou/DM.”

In March 2007 Sweeney was in Clearwater, Florida interviewing a local critic who often picketed Scientology’s facilities there, a man named Shawn Lonsdale. He also interviewed a couple of ex-Scientologists. As they had been instructed, Mike Rinder and Tommy Davis were tracking Sweeney’s movements, and Tommy confronted him at his Clearwater hotel one night. Tommy then wrote up a lengthy description of that encounter. The next set of texts show Tommy and Rinder scrambling as Sweeney left Clearwater for California. The texts from “Lou” show that Miscavige kept a tight watch on every movement. (For clarity, we’ve removed subject headings and other header info, which is complete in the court filing itself. Otherwise the spelling is from the original texts. Explanatory notes in brackets are ours.)

Dear Sir I am now on Blackberry and saw the cc you sent. They are going to SFO [San Francisco] not LV [Las Vegas]. Dear Sir He is definitely not on the same flight. He is going via Chicago to Oakland as the only available flight. There is no plan to do anything with them but to be available there in case (there may be internet chat on who they see) or they may try to go to one of the orgs there as we showed them SFO, SNC [Stevens Creek] and Gatos [Los Gatos]. If not, then it is easy to get down to LA. ML, Mike

The Mike Rinder Timeline - where objective evidence could verify where Mike was at what time, and what location he appeared at working on what "flap" - no matter the post he claimed to hold, or where he claimed to be. This would be extremely illuminating.

Mike Rinder's own statements about his career in Scientology have consistently been proven contradictory, false and misleading. Other people, such as Tony Ortega, have consistently helped with the obfuscation of his timeline and actual duties.

It's amazing that Tony Ortega continually called Marty Rathbun an "enforcer", but Mike Rinder has always been, per Tony, just a "former Scientology spokesman".

After 12 years of being out, Mike Rinder is suddenly interested in criminal indictments over civil suits, criminal acts over moral outrages.

Will Mike now suddenly take an interest in the death of Kyle Brennan after trying to bury it for so long?

Let's watch and see.

Here is Mike Rinder's Aftermath account of how he "blew."

Transcript: Aftermath Season 1 Episode 2 said:
[Scene: John Sweeney being filmed]
[00:20:10.627]
LR: I was told a lot of information about John Sweeney by my Church. He's attacking your Church. He's attacking the leader of your Church.
And when I asked Mike and my Church about it, they were like, "Oh, my God, this guy's an SP! What do you give a shit about what he's saying? He's ridiculous. He's an alcoholic."
[00:20:26.367]
MR (in studio): Miscavige had me pulled out in the Hole and charged me with the responsibility of stopping the BBC from ever airing any program about Scientology.
[Scenes: Image of David Miscavige; aerial view of Int Base]
MR: And most particularly, stopping them from ever airing any allegations that Miscavige had physically assaulted anyone.
[00:20:45.187]
This was an opportunity for me to get back in good graces. To get out of the Hole. I mean, I'd been there for almost two years. That if I came out and I did a good job of this, I would be able to extricate myself (laughs) from being a prisoner in the Hole and go back to somewhat normal life as a servant of the Sea Organization.
[00:21:06.757]
[Screen: March 31, 2007]
[Scene: John Travolta in a photo shoot]
MR: John Travolta was having a premiere of his movie, "Wild Hogs" in London.
[Scene: Aerial view of London; Westminster Abbey]
[Scene: John Sweeney driving a car]
[Screen: JOHN SWEENEY
BBC Journalist]
MR: And the concern that Miscavige had was that John Sweeney would get into the Four Seasons Hotel where they were doing their press junket. So I had to then quickly alone get on a plane to London and brief John Travolta and his PR people and Security, to be on the lookout for the bald lunatic that was John Sweeney.
[00:21:34.633]
[Scene: Mike Rinder confronting John Sweeney]
MR: John Sweeney showed up at the Tottingham Court Road Church facility.
[00:21:48.007]
[Scene:
John Sweeney: David Miscavige, he says, hit you and knocked you to the ground.]
MR: John Sweeney started asking me, I've been told that you personally were beaten.
[Scene: "Scientology and Me"
BBC Panorama 2007
MR: Those allegations are absolute utter rubbish. Absolute utter rubbish.]
[00:22:03.537]
MR: Standing in front of a camera and having someone say to you, "I've been told that you've been beaten by this man. Is that true?" And denying it.
[Scenes: Mike Rinder in the Sweeney footage; Mike Rinder in front of his computer]
MR: It was sort of another one of those moments of clarity that I eventually had. I went, "You know what? This is nuts."

[Scene: Mike Rinder in studio]
[00:22:25.335]
MR: Miscavige considered that I failed because the program ultimately aired. He said, "You're a screw-up. This is just another one of your failures. So, you're going to be sent to western Australia and you're never seeing the rest of your family again."
[00:22:41.215]
[Scene: Freeway. Mission Road off ramp. Time lapse from day to evening]
[Scene: Clouds in blue sky; sun; pedestrians in a crowded urban walkway.]
MR: I was now no longer doing anything that remotely resembled what I had believed I had joined the Sea Org for. And the reason that I had stayed, was because of my children, my wife, my mother, my brother, my sister. And that if I left, I would lose all of them.
[Scene: Mike Rinder and Tommy Davis watching someone or something]
MR: It got to the point though now where the staying was becoming more and more like leaving, in the consequences.
[Scene: Mike Rinder in the Sweeney era footage.]
MR: I'm not going to be with my family in any way, shape or form. And I'm being told, "You're going to be in Purgatory forever." And at that point, I went, "You know what? I've got nothing to lose any more."
[Scene: Mike Rinder walking down a street.]
MR: I picked up my briefcase. I walked out the front door. And then started running to the Tube Station.
[00:23:37.635]
[Scene: enactment]
MR: I looked around to see if they had figured out that I had just walked out without an escort. I bought a ticket for the Tube, got on the train and went, "I'm done. I'm out."
[Scene: Train travelling away.]

According to the documents I reference here:

Mike Rinder and Tom Davis met with John Sweeney at 12:30 a.m., March 18, 2007. (Sweeney, Church of Fear, p. 40, 117)

John Sweeney's Celebrity Centre interviews with Leah Remini et al., in the presence of Rinder and Davis, occurred on March 21, 2007. (Sweeney, Church of Fear, p. 126.)

John Travolta's Wild Hog Premiere was on March 28, 2007 in London.

John Sweeney's BBC documentary aired on May 14, 2007.

Also from the Aftermath transcript, above, Rinder states: "And the reason that I had stayed, was because of my children, my wife, my mother, my brother, my sister. And that if I left, I would lose all of them."

During the years Rinder had "stayed," he committed crimes against persons for the unlawful purpose of silencing or destroying them. The "reason" he stayed and committed crimes against such persons was not, as some people argue, because he was brainwashed, but because he was extorted. Relevantly, he had to know what he was doing.

I'm not sure how you would know his motivation for doing what he did.

I didn't know Mike Rinder back at that time (or presently). But if he was a true believer, and he committed crimes, I would think he did it because it was part of the "scriptures", and it was the "greatest good".

It's possible that the fear of being disconnected from his family was a motivation, but again, how would you know that?
