Would you vote LRH for Mayor?

As a frequent visitor to Marty’s blog, I’m struck by the ubiquitous references to LRH policy and to what the “Old Man” would say or do. Hubbard’s written word or perceived reaction to a situation is treated as an unchallenged guidepost for one’s own behavior and perception.

Now one could expect (and indeed finds) this blind devotion among the poor souls still trapped within the Cult of Scientology. However, the Independents, who have reawakened their brains’ critical reasoning centers enough to discover the shocking level of deception and malevolence long displayed by the Church and its leadership, while skewering Miscavige at every opportunity, seem to not only have absolved Hubbard of any part in this duplicity but also still consider his words sacred and his legacy unassailable.

Let’s forget for the moment the hearsay (If a man really wants to make a million dollars...), the bizarre (Seventy five million years ago…), the cruelty (Ordering 4 year-old Derek Greene to the chain locker and overboarding middle-aged women off the deck of the Apollo) and the vindictive (By FAIR GAME is meant, may not be further protected by the codes and disciplines…). Suppose instead we just consider the following three facts about the venerable “Old Man.”

1. L. Ron Hubbard was a bigamist. Wherever one places culpability for the deterioration of the marital bond between Hubbard and first wife Polly (the couple married on April 13, 1933), the fact remains that LRH willingly chose to commit bigamy when he married Sara Northrup on August 10, 1946 while still legally wed to Polly, the mother of his two children. It was Polly, not Ron, who filed for divorce in Washington State in April, 1947, some eight months later, on the grounds of desertion and nonsupport of the two minor children.

2. L. Ron Hubbard lied repeatedly about his accomplishments and experiences as a Naval officer in World War II. Hubbard’s falsehoods were particularly offensive, because his actual military record was so poor. He wasn’t the last American Naval officer in Australia in Spring 1942, he never commanded a corvette squadron battling the Germans in the Atlantic, in fact he never saw a minute of combat whatsoever. His service was wholly undistinguished save for his two notable blunders as skipper of PC-815: first, his chase of a magnetic deposit off the Oregon coast he imagined was a Japanese sub, and second, a few weeks later in June, 1943, his unauthorized firing off the Coronado Islands, which caused an international flap with ally Mexico.

3. L. Ron Hubbard lied repeatedly about his scientific and academic credentials. He wasn’t a nuclear physicist or engineer as claimed, in fact, he was a college dropout and his transcript from George Washington University was littered with poor grades, including F’s in Plane Geometry, Differential Calculus, and Molecular & Atomic Physics.

So I ask the Independents: Suppose a candidate in your local Mayoral election had a past which included bigamy and gross misrepresentation of his military, academic, and professional achievements.

Could such a man, regardless of how stellar you consider his other attributes, earn your vote for any position of leadership or trust?

And if the answer is no, how can you trust Lafayette Ronald Hubbard and his legacy of writings and audio recordings to be your primary moral and ethical compass?

WOG
Hell no!

SCIENTOLOGIST
Hell no!

Same answer.

Except, the Scientologist is thinking: "Hell no! Why would we even need to vote for mayor when Ron is already running this entire sector of the galaxy."
