In addition to word of mouth I am promoting on forums. We all need to promote and not just wait for others to act. One never knows when a tipping point will occur.

Perhaps an online survey that can be found through googling asking if someone would sign a petition to investigate Scientology. Would they have concerns about signing one that is at the White House website. What concerns do they have. What reason would a person have for not signing.
Something along those lines to flush out the reason it's going slow.
I wouldn't make it too long and the questions should be aimed at finding out why someone wouldn't.
Just my thoughts.
I've just been looking through some of the other petitions on the White House website, and signing a whole stack of them actually, but one of them has like over 46,000 signatures - so I really don't think signing up for a White House account is what is stopping people - and that petition was for legalising and regulating marijuana in the same way as alcohol. So when people feel strongly enough about something they're certainly happy enough to sign up - also plenty of support for some of the visa petitions, same sex marriage etc.
Well, ther are a lot of exes out here who are not going there to sign so there is some reason why not.
I would think 5000 would be a cinch considering what Scientology does to people.
perhaps psychiatrist should be contacted to see if they would sign. does it really matter where the signatures come from as long as you get 5000.
They have a reason to want to see it investigated.
Yes, agreed. It is really disappointing. But how do we get them to take part in the survey? It should be quite easy to stick one up on surveymonkey or something I should think. And even if we find out why, I'm not sure we can change anything to make them feel more comfortable - except perhaps to give them more information and reassurance.
I used to have a database of churches here in Australia - it would be horribly out of date by years, and I'm not sure if I could find it - it would be on my old computer at my old house. Some of them might be willing to support it, although others would be aligned with Scientology because of the Interfaith thing.
Maybe nothing can be done but then maybe something can be done. When you realy want to make something happen you have to explore all avenues.
Important petitions you must sign!
Please sign-in or register on the White House web site an sign them both!

That's a good idea, Lurker! I've also been very pleased to see a link posted on the Cult Information and Family Support (CIFS) network: www.cifs.org.au. Hopefully other similar groups will link to the petition.
I blogged at a large women's site and included a bunch of links relevant to women and children's rights. I also emailed a lot of people and requested they each send it on to anyone who is an activist. I didn't even have to say 'who wants the COS investigated' because that is becoming very common these days.
I also sent off some faxes to Psychiatrists offices requesting that they sign and email the links forward. They have been vilified by LRH and COS for decades so they are an excellent target audience. I know some Doctors who know some doctors who will notify some other people.
Something that may be affecting this is the need for only 5,000 signatures.
Many people might think: "Oh, they only need 5,000 and I am sure that those other people will sign, so since I am so busy I will just skip this one. They'll have those sigs in no time!" And off they go on their merry way thinking their sig and forwarding of this very important petition is not important at all.
One other thing. We want to get this petition out to the 'Connectors' which would be the people who are general activists and know a LOT of people. They do not necessarily know them well, they just know bunches of them from different walks of life. If we approach just a few of these people it will get us past the tipping point so this goes viral.
Do you know anyone who is somewhat social and belongs to a big Christian church, a large social club or a sizable website?
A great read:The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.
My page shows 2,233 signatures. Hopefully this will explode soon.
