What's new

Big Blue & bright colors from the 70s

I was in LA during the "color change"

It was explained to the Cult Public....that the new color was actually a stain and concrete sealant....not a paint.

Apparently the concrete walls of the building were eroding.

It was a big project to sandblast the concrete walls and apply this sealant/stain...to protect the structures...

Leland is exactly right. My ex-husband was in the estates org in PAC, and I knew a number of people in PAC Renoes.

When the base was renoed, the buildings were stained, not painted.

The buildings were sandblasted, the stain was applied, and the building was sealed.

By the RPF.

Of course.

Are you referring to the first coat circa 81? Was there some kind of briefing to the Scientology public about the preparation and type of paint? I think that is interesting. One would expect a briefing about the color but sand blasting, and type of coating - that is very specific.

No, couldn't have been 81. I didn't arrive in LA until 83, and this was several years after that...

I vaguely recall some sort of display....and a sample of concrete...and pictures and an explanation...of what was going on.

They were very specific that it was not a paint. And explained that the stain would penetrate the concrete...and seal it.

Interestingly enough...there was no call for donations...or anything like that.

This has become a rather common pic of the Cult....for all kinds of articles these days...

Many many publications.....have used this photo.

I just wanted to point out that as far as I know.....from 1983 until after the year 2000.....this "entrance" to that building was never in use.

There was no access to that building from that entrance.

Also......isn't the majority of that building a dormitory? Isn't that where SO slept....(were berthed)?

I know at the top....there was some special "Artists" office for the renovations....But wasn't the rest just group dorm rooms...?

Running down the center of that stairway....coming from the top....down to street level ....there is a tiered fountain. I never saw any water in that fountain....I never saw it working.

Anyone know why that door way was not used or why that fountain was never restored?

Its higher quality berthing than Leb Hall, for admin and service orgs (notice air conditioners). Lower levels usually for administration. It doesn't surprise me that the main entrance isn't used as this would require another security reception, etc. I have never known that fountain to be in service in any picture which is surprising. If it were Flag I suspect the whole main entrance area would be maintained just for the occasional photo op. The art deco metal work by the door is exquisite. I think it was painted by the church at some point. What about that Artist's Office? I think I read it is used by lawyers or PIs now.

This was the LRH excuse for a lot of his fucked up, bad decisions.

One of the results of this was the LRH FO that people who had taken LSD couldn't join the Sea Org.

Are you saying the graphics guy is responsible for the FO that prohibited people who had taken LSD from joining the SO? When was that written?

So what you saw must have been the re-do. Circa 86? That coincides with the rise of DM, yes?

I suppose so. That sounds about right.

But at that time I knew nothing of David Miscavige...or what as transpiring in the hierarchy of the Cult.....

I really didn't care about such, either.

I did go to the LRH's death event at the Paladium....But even then.....Those on the stage at that time....were not familiar to me...

Now a bit vague...

I do recall the creation of the RTC and such....but was not aware of the dismantling of the original command structure of the Cult...

I was public...

Of course.

To clarify, you are confirming: They sandblasted over the first light blue coating that was applied around 81. The exterior was repainted circa 86 using a "stain". Then this was sealed with a top coat. And, the RPF did everything with no outside contractor????

But did someone say the finish is defective now? I don't mean the color but is the "stain" fading or running or getting blotchy, etc?

I don't think it would matter what color they painted Big Blue. The building is ugly from the inside out and if you painted it white it would be called "Wacky White" or "Wicked White" or some other funny name denigrating the weird people inside. Maybe they could have painted it Nicotine Yellow to match dead El Ron's teeth. The bottom line is that the Church of Scientology is an evil organization that has caused countless people to suffer needlessly.

No matter what color they paint it the ugliness will permeate the walls of the organization and be visible to everyone who is outside. It's what's inside that is really ugly.

When I was there circa '80-'81, they were constantly working on that place in one way or another.

A particularly nasty memory was when someone must have developed a backlog, lol, in Estates, and a whole bunch of dishes dried out after breakfast, so when they finally sent them through the monstrous dishwashing machine that they had down there, all the spots of dried egg didn't completely wash off...

I don't know how many PAC personnel got sick that day, I just know I was one of them. It was a major flap.

They were in the midst of renos on our dorm, which was on the top floor of one of the wings of the big blue building that now has the giant sign on it. I spent the next couple of days in abject misery lying in one of the bunk-beds in this room, so sick my eyeballs ached, and the floor was covered in construction debris, which included broken glass and metal shards! This made staggering to the head to throw up particularly challenging, but I Made It Go Right!

Talking about the Scn CROSS. . .

You know what's really funny?

In the entire "religion" of Scientology, with all its ecclesiastical posturing, sacred "scripture" and use of the prominently displayed holy cross--not one Scientologists anywhere actually gives a shit about the stupid cross. And if their life depended on it, they couldn't tell you what the cross is supposed to mean.

Because it doesn't mean anything whatsoever in Scientology.

It's just a prop, to keep evil government misdirected and to hold onto cash that would otherwise be taxed.

Honestly, is there even one (1) Scientologist who has ever lived that doesn't think that the Scientology cross is a complete joke?

Maybe you haven’t noticed, but in the past 20-or-so years there’s been a real catchy trend in major Hollywood movies to constrain the palette to orange and blue. The color scheme, also known as “orange and teal” or “amber and teal” is the scourge of film critics – one of whom calls this era of cinema a “dark age.”

thats our Ron, ahead of his time in heralding in a new dark age.

Hmmmmm...

Well, HH, it does relate to the Qabalistic Cross, but that's an even bigger joke!

It was also on one of Crowley's Tarot cards, which is where he probably got the idea.

Get this;

The Order I trained in said that there were errors intrinsic to this rendering. AND it would result in failure, and worse, if you pursued it.

You get to decide if I'm full of it or not.
