(and now I have the two beak & feather babies who arrived again that I can't get near enough to take to rescue aviaries or to a vet and they are crying on the back deck. Sigh)

There are simple, inexpensive, non-surgical, non-botox ways in the industry is all I'm saying. PM me when/if you want to start planning.

I'm glad you're stepping out into the world and braving it again with what you love, Maria, and wish you all happiness and success in your endeavors, wherever they may lead.

(PS - I never took any money from the Miss Universe Australia lady for the pics. I wanted her to succeed and was proud as a mother when she did.)

Sheila, I don't know your past at all. Only two days ago when we were sparring did someone tell me who you where. I was out of town but managed to see about 5 minutes of a video. I am not up on your photography. It sounds very fun! Good for you!

I've often wished I could move to AUS or NZ and was even on the sites for such in the last 9 mos. I have a friend who has no idea what SCN even is and she lives in NZ. But without a job or a way to make money online at the moment, the fees for expatriation are out of reach. I'd have to be quite successful artistically first. I won't hold my breath. LOL. I'm in the middle of 3 paintings now and one of them is a gift for a friend (the one I posted here the other day that I was in the middle of.) It's small and now I realized that I will do it big, but using colors closer to what shows up in the image. In real life the colors seemed a bit more saturated. My phone improved the art work! LOL.

I have never been on a cruise ship that I didn't get laid on and I do hope to do an Alaskan cruise soon. Any ship I get on would by definition be a cruise ship because I don't drive those things, I just ride on 'em.

Could we go to the finest place I never ever been laid as a topic ?

It's a stunning country, no doubt, but there are plenty of things Aussies don't tell you about how tough they actually are and how they've acclimated to the climate and the unique hardships of Australia. I can watch an Australian man doing yardwork in shorts and a T-shirt with perfect tan and skin. If I did the same, I'd be nothing but feed for mosquitoes and ticks.

I was once bitten by a brown recluse and had a hand the size of Hellboy. It took months for the poison to settle and the nerves in my hand to heal.

Some of the windstorms scare the heck out of me. Trees come down, garages and decks are broken. There are floods, there are electrical storms in the sky with no rain that light up the entire night.

All of this, the Australian takes in stride. None of it affects his or her cheery attitude. They pitch in and help each other rebuild and just get on with things again.

Yeh, it's a pretty special place. As a bird lover, you have to visit, though. There's nothing quite like the relationship humans and wildlife have here.

Well I do hope I see that neck of the woods, and at least stay there for a while, not as a tourist but just be there and so on. I think that my time in Venezuela would not as been as wonderful as it was if I had not lived there even if not for long. By actually being there I really did experience it in a special way. I was born in Cuba so I'd love to go there too. Or I could go to Spain for a while, where I have relatives. I'll wait for fate to determine my fate. LOL. meanwhile,

I never have been to Australia or New Zealand!

Well, I'm doing a bit of final visiting here, then onto see that amazing, wonderful, talented, compassionate woman Glenda, then onto America and Europe - Spain, for sure! And France, Germany, England. Then when I've had enough traveling and I'm ready to settle, back to the USA again.

New Zealand is so gorgeous that any way you turn is picture perfect. No exaggeration. Skiing there is wonderful, and they're incredible chefs and friendly, too.

Leon, mine wasn't so much a disagree as a question of how you arrived at the Americans imitating Great Britain's war techniques. It certainly didn't happen in America's colonial times when America was primarily British and afterwards - well, I just don't know. Its an interesting question, though - whose war techniques did America copy? Or did America come up with quite a bit of it on its own?

I also thought you gave the British Empire far too much credit compared to some of the other countries that have been leading powers. China, for example, or Rome - both of which had a far longer historical run and far more massive empire than Great Britain.

Sheila, so far so good, but are you sure that the Chinese and Roman Empires were much larger than Great Britain's Empire? You remember the saying, "The Sun never set on the British Empire. At their height they had colonies all over the world, and many of them very large. For example Canada, Australia and India were under British rule all at the same time.

Maybe Rome controlled a larger percentage of the civilized world at its peak than Great Britain did because back in Roman times so much of the world was unexplored. That might be possible but in just absolute land area being controlled and population being ruled, Great Britain seems the largest to me.

I read some interesting information last year about England's initial arrival to Australia and NZ, for example. The focus and purpose was primarily to find more and better woods and other ship-building materials, something I would never have guessed. The Brits were really into their Navy. The British fleets spanned the oceans of the world and were the envy of every country. They worked hard for decades to map out the entire world and had the best maps. Mapping tek was certainly a big part of the British contribution to worldwide communication and, whatever else one has to say about it, it was Great Britain that made the concept of worldwide communication and trade a realistic possibility. So as far as that goes, yes, Britain certain did a great deal to shape the world to what it is today.

The Spaniards were the head honchos up until losing that sea battle in 1588, then Great Britain pretty much had free reign to colonize whatever they felt like colonizing for various reasons as you cite above.

As you mention above, Britain's sea power is what made them so great. China was never a naval power so they were restricted to Asia. The Romans had a good Navy for their time but naval tech was so rudimentary then that most of their conquests were done on land by their Armies.

This is an interesting topic, much less controversial than politics but perhaps more interesting as well.

I really don't know which empire was bigger, so you are probably right, it must have been Great Britain. In my mind, the Roman Empire or China's were always bigger. Thanks for the correction. I have a friend with a book that maps out the territories of all the historical great empires geographically, so now I think I'll have a look.

Thanks also for the background on Spanish history, something of which I am woefully ignorant. You're very helpful, Lakey, and a good history teacher.

Why did you choose to play it in the post just preceding this one? How did it feel, did it make you want to go to Rome or China?

The Apollo thread was designed to make people play new games or want to visit new places. I give all the credit to CO2 for that concept. Through absolutely fantastic photos of places he had been, or maybe once in a while a place which he had not been to but had heard or read about he whetted people's appetites to want to go to those places. Hats came on board and added to the mix with some fantastic pictures of her own.

If a chat room is safe and an aesthetic environment is maintained, people may do things they have never done before. The credit for that concept goes in total to CO2!!!

Play what? I've got a good friend here locally, married and Colombian born. We've been friends since 1974. I joined the Jack LaLanne gym in Lakewood, CA when I left the S.O. and began my career managing my Dad's construction firm. The Colombian guy was the masseuse there and I had him massage me and that's how we met. He wanted me to go with him and his wife to Columbia last year but I turned down their invitation. The man is going this year without his wife and has again invited me. I am leaning towards making the trip.

How does Colombia sound?
