Politics bother me, being a lady. I almost regret coming back. Maybe I am not made for forums. I hate fighting and prefer things to be light. It is between you and him. All I can do is cringe. I agree that he pokes at you. But I feel helpless, don't know really how peace can prevail.

I wish each could express themselves without attacks.

Well, look Maria, I understand how you feel. You have done a really fine job today on this your first day back posting here, I don't want you to regret coming back!!. I'll tell you what I am going to do. I will stop all future attacks or counter attacks and stick to posting only pleasant items. If someone insists on attacking me, I will simply place them on IGNORE and just not read their posts antmore. If By chance someone quotes them and I see oe of their posts, it I don't like it I will either not comment or comment with a huh? or disagree? I want you to do your thing here and not have to cringe or feel regret or be forced to take sides between two people you like.

I'm pretty close to winding up my tour of duty on this thread and you seem to be on a winning roll right now with your non fighting type of attitude. I see beauty in that type of attitude on a discussion board. You do a much better job at that than I could ever do. I'll stick around a while longer, just doing mostly good roads, good weather, an anecdote here and there. I don't want to cause you any more angst and no longer will do so.

Oh yes, one last comment on your recent post on the meaning of words. I had an 8th grade English teacher who not only had us look up words but also made us use new words in sentences a few times until we were comfortable using the word. I think that method is a good technique. I know instances were it helped a person and no instances where it hurt a person. Do you agree with the technique of using new words in sentences until you get the gist of the word?

In philosophy what is prized is knowing one does NOT know. My post really does live in THAT Socratic truth.

In the entry phase of Scientology, Hubbard used the concept that the first step in knowing anything is to know that you don't know. As one went further into the subject, things morphed a bit, the original idea turned from what I said above to something more akin to the following:

The first step in knowing is to know that you do not know but that L Ron Hubbard does know everything since he is Source. The second step in knowing is to study LRH's tech and perfectly duplicate it with no additives and then apply it. When you do those two steps, you will know more than any other human beings have ever known but you will never know as much as LRH knows because he only he is Source.

Needless to say, I do agree with the original version and do not agree with the second version which the first version morphs into.

And I have not really made friends here too much so mostly just attacked and treated rudely. I have no idea who is who here on this forum! So how am I to just "DO" the right thing as if I was a robot.

He hadn't met Hubbard (luckily Hubbard was not yet born and neither Mother Hubbard) and so he was free of all this insane 'tech' which is merely the rantings of a sad man from the 1950s.

I like you Lakey. But let us be clear from now until eternity. I am not doing a job. So of course if I am not doing a job I cannot be doing a fine job. I find myself irritated by having to be an ex when all I really am is a human! lolol.

The point is not that you have an objection to a person. The point is that, and I hope Giz hears this too, the CoS attacks us exes. So I dont GET why WE attack each other and how that HELPS.

Also, I don't see how a forum thread is a 'tour of duty'. Why do anything out of duty? Either you WANT to do a thing or you don't. Skip duty. It will kill you.

I am a lucky one who DOES NOT REMEMBER 95% of any of the tech.

So I have to view all life with fresh eyes.

It was 35+ years ago.

I couldn't repeat what M4 w/c is. I don't remember. YAY.

When I was a little girl in school, each day we were given new words to learn. We would look them up and in our homework give an definition.

But that was it. You see, context changes the meaning of words. Words are not what they are, they are AFFECTED by what is around them.

So no pure definitions are possible.

A pragmatic definition for the pragmatically minded (BORING) of course is always there....SIGH.

What matters is the context, not the word as if it was on an altar for all time.

Words have millions of meanings, each one. Archaic ones, English ones, American ones, colloquialisms, etc. The key is context. From there a word can be surmised as to meaning and intention. A sigh, a tone of voice, affects the whole meaning! To define words in absolute ways for all time DEVOID of feeling and other context is just an emotional insecurity where the person needs to be assured that a=a so they won't have a breakdown when reality does not fit their little fantasy.

MU tech = emotionally insecure and NOT a creative being = not cause ever.

I read these Hugh Blair lectures a year or so ago. I learned more from Hugh in a few months than Hubbard in 26 years.

Of note regards language, and which correlates what you say, and Hugh's full lecture, but a snip from his lectures back in the day. I wish I could write like those old farts, LOL.

I choose my friends by the way people treat me.

Maybe that is wrong. But unfortunately, as an empiricist, it is all I have. How people act lets me know if to trust them with myself.
And I do like myself. So I have to be careful. For reasons I am not even revealing HERE.

If Bob is a cultist, it does not mean CO2 is a cultist. It is not logical for me.

I have friends who are christian, friends who are agnostic, friends who are atheist.

Does that make me by default any of those?

Robert Pirsig had an interesting take on Socrates in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". He saw Socrates as the last and greatest of the Sophists and a bulwark against Aristotle rather than a simpatico precursor and the first of the Rationalists. He makes a pretty good case.
